1.
Am I being a bit tight and funny? or should I have been consulted?
No and yes respectively. As others have said, if they were inexperienced they may just have assumed it was the house rig. If not, they need to sort their manners and attitudes out! I will normally let others use my gear if they ask, but if they didn't ask I would stop them and remove my gear from the stage. If they haven't bothered to bring their own - that's their problem. I would also take a look at the organisers too, who should have made the situation known to all bands beforehand!
 2.
Sounds very flatwound to my ears
Mine too. And if that's a Jazz, it is very much played on the neck pickup I would say...
 3.
Bass is currently on hold for the next two days
4.
I'm in Fenham pal, were you looking to buy or possibly trade?
I had both in mind, but it looks like I might be sorted now with something else. Thanks for the response and good luck - it sounds like a good bass!
 5. Great stories!! That Tom guy should write for a magazine!! Oh, er... wait...
 6. Is this the Custom or the Classic model Rob? And where in Newcastle are you based mate?
 7.
If i don't get some nice offers for this bass....
Ooh - that hurts!
 8.
Mids are grossly over-rated on this forum. If it sounds good, who's complaining?
Maybe.... but mids are often the key to sounding "good" - certainly in a band/stage scenario. Recording and home practice are different things altogether.
 9. Good stuff! Possibly a bit reminiscent of some early Matt Johnson stuff, but still very original. I like it
 10.
it's worth trying it with the midrange on 10 and the bass and treble dialled back well below halfway.
I have mine set with mids on 10, bass and treble both set at between 2 and 3. The "brite" switch pretty much removes the need to boost treble, but more bass can be added if necessary. It is rather counter-intuitive, but as the manual says - it is hard to find an unusable sound!
 11. IME the LH500 is a massively powerful amp, but it is very clean. Maybe you are more used to hearing a slightly "coloured" (i.e. distorted) sound from your Peavey? Sounds like you are comparing apples and pears - although I have no experience of the Warwick cabs, I guess that they are higher quality than the Peaveys, so again you will hear a cleaner sound that is more transparent... It is also very hard to describe sounds in words! I would give the 500 a chance. The volume control on the LH500 is a bit strange too. It seems to make very little difference to the volume you hear until you hit about 6... then even a small increase make the sound MUCH louder! Not sure why this should be, but it takes a bit of getting used to!
 12. Norwood-tastic! I'm loving the yellow strings... Just out of interest, with the pickups so close together is there much tonal difference between them?
 13.
Oh, sorry Conan, Can I pm you tomorrow afternoon? I'm in deepest Wales and the mobile signal is a little ropey.
No worries Simon! I look forward to your Pm mate
 14. +1 to Wil's post above! Far too many variables to say that any particular setting works all the time...
 15.
For Sale: Fender Jazz Bass (NOT A RICKENBACKER COPY)
16.
If you advertise a 'special bass' you could always be PM'd for pics....
17.
Seems i've managed to avoid import tax as well - all is good.
18. Great stuff! Loving the backing singers! (I wish...)
 19. So you're not interested in my Geddy then? No worries. Good luck with the sale/trade.
 20. Bugger RIP to an iconic bass player and (from all accounts) top bloke.
 21. Cheers for the info guys! I love that style of bass playing. Very similar to some of the Scott Walker stuff. For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DpDxT2q9QE
 22. I have just discovered an artist that was previously unknown to me (although the style sounds hauntingly familiar). Anyone know who played bass on these recordings? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhxdnq_1OcM
 23.
Some have a certain sentimental value now as well.
Yeah, that's my Status. Had it from new since 1986. From time to time I consider selling or trading it, but then I get a twist in my soul and I can't imagine being without it. Which is odd, because I don't usually get attached to 'things'
 24.
Familiarity breeds contempt - having basses that feel different to each other makes you appreciate all the special characteristics of each one
This^. Although I find that three is about right for me. Four feels like a collection, and I am not a collector or anything but dust.
