  1. I guessed as much. One day, one of these will come up that I can get my grubby paws on!! GLWTS
  2. I take it you have no interest in trades?
  3. Some trade interest, but still here for the moment...
  4. If this bass sounds and plays half as good as it looks, someone is going to get a real bargain! Very tempted myself if my T-bird sells!
  5. Some more photos, in which i have tried to show the (small) dints and marks... I took a lot of pics, but the marks were not keen to reveal themselves!
  6. Gorgeous bass - excellent price
  7. Comments welcome on pricing. I think this is a fair price looking at what these tend to go for... Also, just for clarity, I want to make it clear that I really like this bass! If I was more of a collector I'd be more than happy to keep it as it is a beautiful example of a classic , iconic bass. I just don't think I'll be using it much with my current band and would rather use it to fund a different instrument that I would actually use! There are no problems at all with the instrument itself... I have extensive, positive feedback, so you can buy with confidence. Trade offers welcome, although my preference would still be for a cash sale. However, I realise that cash is not always easy to come by in the run-up to Christmas!
  8. There have been a number of threads on this subject - for example From personal experience, I love EMGs and the "hot" pickup from GFS is great for the money - http://www.guitarfetish.com/GFS-Pro-Series-HOT-P-Bass-Pickup-Pickup-OUR-BEST-_p_10978.html
  9. http://www.emgpickups.com/bass/j-models/active/jset.html#info Hmmm... it seems I may have been incorrect in assuming that the pickups were passive...
  10. Good point! I've never yet found a P that I enjoy playing as much as a J. My search continues though...
  11. They both sound fine to me! The strings do make a massive difference to the tone though, so it's not really a fair test.
  12. Maybe I'm over-simplifying things here (apologies if I am) but is output so important? If you like the tone of the Dirnt P, just turn the amp up a bit for that bass. A "hot" pickup is not necessarily a good pickup...
  13. The seller was correct (although EMG do make some active pickups as well, but it's most likely that you have a J-set and they are passive with a preamp). Also bear in mind that Fender have notoriously variable quality control! Some instruments are just better put together from better parts than others, and no amount of modding will make a bad one as good as a good one. It's frustrating, but maybe try and borrow another P bass from someone (or try some in a shop). It may just be this particular P that has this particular problem. From a personal point of view, I have always found P basses more variable than Jazzes.
  14. Tim lectures in Music Production at Newcastle College. He teaches my son. Small world... "My band" is Rush. No contest. Apart from Marilliion perhaps. And maybe Level 42 for a period....
  15. I've not had this lovely bass long (traded through this very forum!), but I have my eye on something else and need to release some funds! Made in 2009. Condition-wise I would give it 9/10 as there are a couple of small, superficial dings and scratches (which I will try to show in photos) but nothing that affects playability. Plays beautifully, with one of the nicest necks I've ever played. Sounds monstrous, and has a huge range of tones from the two humbuckers - often described as a "Jazz bass on steroids", and I can see where that reference comes from! Balances very well, with no neck-dive at all (although I only use wide straps). Recently strung with DR Hi-Beams. Not heavy at around 8lb 6oz (according to my kitchen scales). Just feels like a serious quality instrument! Comes in the original hard case, which is so plush that my cat has it's eye on it as a bed! These pics will do for now, but I will take some more ASAP. Any questions just ask. I'm happy to ship this, but obviously this will be at the purchaser's expense (and risk). I will deliver locally (North East and North West England, and South West Scotland) for petrol expenses. I would much prefer a cash sale, but if you have anything in a Status, Fender Jazz-type, G&L, Musicman or Yamaha style and fancy a trade, just shout! No amps or cabs required thanks (unless it's an EAD Foundation 212!!)
  16. Withdrawing this. Too good to let go!
  17. Last chance, otherwise I'll be giving this to my son for his birthday on Monday (yes, he does play bass and guitar!). He'd probably rather have the cash though...
  18. I've got a Thunder 1, which is the passive version of this bass (and not in as good condition). They are stunningly well made for the price-point, with excellent playability and sounds. Good price too!
