Mine is in one of these... Which is very handy for carrying, but it does slip around a bit on top of my cab (Barefaced cabs are painted rather than covered). So I put a piece of "grippy mat" stuff between the amp and cab. I'm not sure what it is actually called, but its the stuff you put down under rugs and things on the floor to stop them sliding around... Works a treat! This kind of thing: http://www.amazon.co.uk/slip-safety-under-rubber-underlay/dp/B004K3G5B6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1362162018&sr=8-2
These days, the lines are a bit beyond me though. Ha ha.
How 'bout I do the bass lines and you can handle the keys and vocals WoT?
Gah! I've just measured the door of the cupboard I keep my gear in - literally the ONLY place in the house safe from rampaging children - and the ML112s are 1/2" too wide to fit through.
Is this a pilot that Jerry Peek is playing? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcn5QsHCi_4
....anyway - how do these cabs sound in real life? Anyone?
Sadly, I'm not sure anyone cares any more...
if you read the thread from the beginning, you will see that I have not criticized anyone personally nor have I insulted anyone.
I have read the thread from beginning to end, and I have found some of your comments to be both critical and insulting. Whilst I value your experience and views, I would like to hear you express them in a less confrontational style if that is possible? I ask this purely as a member - not as a mod of any description. This is an interesting debate but it has been spoiled by some of the comment.
The issue is that compared to speakers measured half-space anechoic with the mic at a proper distance the results are pretty bad, and could lead one who knows how to read SPL charts to think that the cab sounds pretty bad as well.
Exactly. If there is such a thing as an "industry standard" test (and I believe that there must be, from what Bill is saying) then surely everyone who seeks to test amplification equipment should use that test. Otherwise they are comparing apples with pears, rather than apples with other apples. Or insert your own more apt metaphor...
I cannot understand why Bill and Roger have received so much flak. As Bill mentioned above, Alex doesn't come around too often these days, I wouldn't be surprised if Roger doesn't either. And its a real shame because I, for one, have learnt so much from all these guys. there's no need to have some pseudo scientific argument to back it up! In fact doing so only makes you look like a tool.
Totally agree. And I object to being seen as some kind of sycophantic fan-boy just because I feel that way!

Very pretty! I always liked the look of these - kind of like a blend of JayDee and Alembic...

What am I missing? Cheap valves, expensive valves

As an interested bystander, with no desire to buy any more bass cabinets for quite a while, I feel that some contributors to this thread have come out of it with enhanced reputations (in my eyes) and others have done the opposite. I don't think I need to name names.
Approximately 4% of members who have sold items on the website have donated
I think that is a disgusting statistic Some people need to take a long, hard look at themselves and their motivations. There is a prompt (when you post an advert) to donate if the item sells, so these tightarses have ignored that and refused to pay towards the upkeep of the very platform that allowed them to sell their item!! How selfish and greedy can you get? I always donate when I sell something, and have even made donations when I haven't sold anything for while. BassChat has given me a lot of pleasure over the last few years and I don't mind paying for that. But now I am being asked to pay for all the freeloaders who won't put their hands in their pockets, even when they have just sold something!!! Grrrrr! That "Grrrr!" is directed at the skinflints, not at the site admins!

I got some Roto Swing Bass for Christmas and have just tried them on my Geddy Lee jazz. Absolutely disgusted at how quickly they have lost their initial "zing". I could almost hear it going within hours, and they have only been very lightly played over a period of about three weeks. Bloody hopeless. Total waste of £17
I'm not saying I like it but if it was a perfect reproduction of the original we would all be moaning that it was a 'pointless cover' and that the band should have put more of their own spin on it. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. It just happens that their spin on it comes with vocals that are in a very particular style that appeals to a niche market. I think an earlier post has a point though that it does seem to be a poor mismatch in that the musical backing is close to the original which makes the vocal overlay that much more jarring. Perhaps a more OTT metal backing as well might have actually worked better, dunno.
Thanks! You have just saved me a lot of typing! Couldn't agree more!

Apologies if this has been posted before. To my shame, I am not a frequent visitor to this section of BassChat... Willis makes some very interesting points about the positioning and use of the right (plucking) hand in this video, from about 1:20 onwards. There is no doubt it works for him, but I think many players might find it just too much of a change to incorporate everything that he recommends.... Definitely worth taking ten minutes to watch though! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XYOptXkE9k
I don't get that slim=fast either. It's surely how it fits your hand.
And maybe the neck finish? I find that highly glossed necks are a bit "grippy" and that unvarnished necks just don't feel right to me. My GL is "just right" as baby bear would say! Not sure what the finish actually is (polyurethane rings a bell) but it is lovely IMO and makes the neck on that bass "feel" faster (i.e. comfortable and unrestrictive to play). It is a very inexact science. I think we all know what we mean, but maybe find the terminology used by others more difficult to grasp!

I'm not posting this ad for my own ends, just letting people know about it. Rush tribute band "Whey Aye Zed" ( ) are looking to replace their bass player/singer/keys player. In the previouls line-up one guy did all of this, but they may be happy with just a bassist (there is at least one vocalist already interested). Reply to the original ad please, not to me!
I do agree with you about set up of course. But if there is a problem with neck alignment or the bridge being in the wrong place then to me it makes sense to get the retailer to deal with it as it's not really a set up issue but rather poor quality control.
Exactly! A typical setup should not involve adjusting the string alignment - and definitely not on a brand new bass!
If you're not happy now, any niggle will only get worse as time passes and you'll wish you had done something about it.
True. Having said that, all necks should have a slight bow in them - but not so much that it makes playing them difficult! BTW, taking the neck off a Fender to tweak the truss rod is not difficult. You don't even have to remove the strings, you can just loosen them.
Its not, there have already been a few posts discussing what fast means
Yes. Thank you for the sarcasm, but I realise that. I was hoping that one of the people who do equate fast and thin might post, explaining why they made that link...

Why is it always assumed that "thin = fast"?
The Geddy today is the equivalent of the original early 70's 4 bolt Jazz neck.
Even slimmer than that apparently. Geddy had his sanded down to his own spec and the GL signature basses are modelled on that - or at least the original ones were...
didn't Mark King play on something?
Yup. MK played bass on the track "Easy" from the Riddle album.
What I'm looking for..... is nice mellow, smooth mids for playing lead bass melodies in the more ballad anthemic songs. If it can do crisp highs it would be a bonus but not essential.

I'd be inclined to say Barefaced.

2x Barefaced Compact. Ultra light to carry and will surely handle all the power you can throw at them!
Compacts are great cabs, as are all the BFBs I've tried... but I'm not so sure that they do "nice mellow, smooth mids". I tend to find the mids very assertive and even a bit "shouty", so you need to be very careful with EQ. Still, it is nice to have all those mids available if you need them!
