1. Nobody has mentioned this guy yet! BTW, Youtube is all things to all people. Anyone expecting to like all of it is simply naive or deluding themselves.
  2. See my sig.... unless you've chosen not to see it BF Vintage. The lightest 2x15 on the planet. All the volume and tone you could want. Or all the volume and tone I could want, anyway - and as it's my cab that's what counts!
  3.
The best way to tell if a bass is a good construction is probably the name on the headstock and the herritage that goes with it.
Unless it's a Fender...
  4. I haven't tried anywhere near enough different amps to comment usefully on this! The best amp that I have played through was my old Ampeg SVT200-T. Yes it's a tranny amp. In fact, I have never played through an all-valve bass amp! I have a lot to learn about amps, but at the same time I've never really been disappointed by any amp - including my first one, a Carlsbro Stingray!
  5. My BF Vintage is the best cab that I've ever played through. Clean and clear. As loud as you want it to be. Nice and big (I just don't trust small cabs...). And it's a one-hand lift! I've also tried using it with keyboards (immense sound) and as a PA cab - beautifully clear and full. Ticks all my boxes! But I'd still love to try an EAD Foundation 212...

    Trace Elliot

Still not sure where you get the idea that they are expensive? You can hardly give them away at the moment, so they can be picked up SH for coppers. I never had any problems with my old eighties Trace gear. Bomb-proof but too damned heavy. They still sound good if you have a strong back... Not sure what the issue is with celestions speakers either?
  7.
and ... just because you think its boring , the rest of your band and all the punters in the audience might like it!!!
Shock news!!! Most punters don't give a f*** what the bassist is doing!!
  8. It's horrible when you hear your own voice as other hear it. Doesn't sound like yourself does it? Did anyone else comment or is it just you that thinks this?
  9.
Cutting through suggests an incision to me, I like the idea of keyhole surgery, thats where it works best, rather than out and out butchery.
Quote of the year!!
  10.
I'm struggling to find a connection between this vid and the thread mate, have I missed something?
I posted it in response to a comment from BRX relating to how if you can't hear yourself properly (i.e. "cut through the on-stage mix") then it can be difficult to know if you are playing in tune....
  11.
I won't be able to hear if I'm suddenly a semi-tone out, but I can see it.
It happens... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewTJWKeGLAY
  12.
Can't see why there would be. Assuming each TC cab has an impedance of 8 ohms, two of them would give a total of 4 ohms - which would allow your amp to produce its "full" power. The four speakers will easily be able to handle the amp's output. Equally, one of them should be more than capable of handling the power of the amp at 8 ohms... Why do you think there might be a problem?
13.
Does anyone think there maybe any impedance or power issues?
Can't see why there would be. 14.
They sometimes even have a bar or two of 4/4 in there as well!
Yes, I spotted that too! "Pull me under" isn't it?
  15.
I would have thought it would be every musician's dream to create a sound and style that is almost instantly identifiable, at the hight of your popularity spawned a host of imitators and your influence can still be heard in the playing of new bands 30 years on.
As long as you enjoy it at the time, this is almost a flawless scenario. It would certainly do me.
  16.
Even Dream Theater have a lot of relatively simple parts in bits of their songs
Fixed
  17. I think Peter Hook could certainly give Adam Clayton a "masterclass". Or vice versa for that matter. The bass player is only part of the band guys. I think we forget that sometimes.
  18. What's the problem with the Acoustic? Behringer studio gear and stompboxes are actually very good for the (very low) price, but the amps do not get such a good write-up. Not sure why, but maybe there is a lot more inherent snobbery when it comes to amps? I would have though that the Acoustic was a much higher quality amp then anything made by Behringer, but that's not to say that it will sound better to your ears! And wattage by itself is no guide to how an amp will sound...
  19.
Jeez, it's just a band audition. What next? Wash behind your ears, put on a fresh bra etc...
It's the guy's first audition. He's 19 years old FFS! He asked for advice and tips. What's so bad about people helping him out?
  20.
What do we think of this then?
The comments at the bottom are quite amusing...
  21.
Heard a good one this morning as well, nerves are really creative apprehension (thank you Barry Cryer!)
Absolutely. Nerves are a sign that you give a damn. I'd be more worried if you weren't nervous! The problem, of course, is channelling that adrenaline in a positive way. That's where experience comes in.
  22. Personally I don't find him any more "limited" than, say, John Entwistle. They are very different players of course, and I like both of them. I can't believe this has run to five pages! There really only seem to be three view points here: 1. Hooky is a crap bass player and should never be allowed to talk to others about his so-called "style" 2. Hooky is a crap bass player but has an interesting and iconic style that has a place in the pantheon of music. Listen to him! 3. Technique is a means to an end/an end in itself* *Delete as appropriate.
  23. As already stated - be yourself and relax. Try to listen to them too, because although they might want you, you might not want to join them! Get there in plenty of time and set your gear up without any fuss. Make sure everything is working properly (obviously) beforehand... tune up properly... fit new strings (if you like that sort of thing!). Do anything you need to do to boost your own confidence basically. Good luck!
