That makes me so angry! Bloody ruthless, heartless dickheads.
Every little helps...

I thihnk you have to have a sense of humour to be a bass player...

Some facts, some opinion, some argument, a small potential for being regarded as libellous... sounds like a lot of the threads on here! What I am uneasy with is the idea of the OP getting sick of a thread and asking mods to hide/remove it. Thin end of the wedge and all that.
-
At least now we can have a thread about the thread .
Until that one is pulled too... then we can have a thread about the thread about the thread!

OK. I get the bit about potential libel. Fair enough.
-
So the content of a thread remains the intellectual property of the thread starter? They get to decide when a thread should be pulled?? Not sure about that at all.
Fair do's though, it had served it's purpose, or not, but it had gone as far as it was going to.
True, although I am kind of uncomfortable with the idea of it being removed altogether. Smacks of censorship... Locking it is one thing...
How will these cabs work with my amp?
They will work. Each will draw 275 watts (or so) from the amp, which is well withing their quoted power ratings. You shouldn't do any damage to either the amp or cabs, even running the rig flat out (as if...). The combined impedance is 4 ohms, which your amp is designed to operate at. Mixing speaker sizes is OK, and many people have done it for years with no ill effects - but as others have said, the results can be less predictable than using two identical cabs. It's your money though! Whether it will sound good is a different matter and will depend on what your ears tell you.

OK, I'm a bit slow in the mornings, but I can't seem to find the long-running thread about the missing/damaged MM Bongo today? Has it been deleted?
I'm not defending The Doc's lack of comms - its understandable that Grant etc. felt a bit miffed. I do think it's a shame that things can be left to fester, when a simple phone call is often all that's needed. We're all grown-ups.
Totally agree. And yes, I probably was a bit defensive of Howard - while not understanding why he was so difficult to contact. I hope no harm has been done. His reputation for quality work and good communications is well deserved, and hopefully this last few months has just been a blip. I apologise for any offence caused by my earlier posts
By the end of this year I will upload to basschat my best efforts at playing: Pull Me Under - Dream Theater
To my shame, this is the only track that I have ever given up on Although I feel bad about being unable (and unwilling) to master it, I console myself by saying that it is not my style and is unnecessarily complex for no real benefit. It simply follows the guitar part and therefore adds little to the track overall IMO. That's my excuse anyway! BTW, I'm not talking about the main riffs, but the middle section bit with the fast arpeggiated runs. Just daft, that is!
Symphony X and Dream Theater lines are my target.
Crikey! Good luck with that! I'm not sure my actual playing ability has changed much in the three years or so that I have been a member on here. But I now feel much more confident in playing less, ironically! There are a lot of people on here whose opinions I value and I have learned a lot about gear, technique and note choices. THat learning has never stopped and I can honestly say that i learn something new every day! I actually stumbled on this place accidentally as I contacted Shep when he was selling a MarkBass 610 cab on eBay and he recommended having a look here. Thanks mate! I think... -
Slightly OT, but I recently read in another thread that it is not a good idea to put pedal FX in your amp's effects loop - and that these are designed for "line level" rack units. I've never heard that before and just wondered what people's experience was in that area?
That short notice chaps......and a clash of dates with the moffatt Drink/Curry bass bash weekend.....shame as I like to try and come along and support these events if I can
Bugger. I would have loved a look at one of your cabinets... Oh well. Next time!

Not really a "hopeless place" exactly, but maybe an unexpected place for such an interesting bass part? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DpDxT2q9QE
Lots of TV shows with nice bass parts in the theme tunes.
Aw bugger! I was going to suggest that one, but thought I had better trawl through the thread first...

4 or 8 Ohms...WIll I be able to hear the difference?
Conan replied to jackers's topic in Amps and Cabs
The problem I am having is that the stuff I know sounds nice and can afford (second hand) is pretty heavy, but the lighter stuff is alot more expensive, and it is very difficult for me to get anywhere to try it out.
That's a common problem unfortunately... -
4 or 8 Ohms...WIll I be able to hear the difference?
Conan replied to jackers's topic in Amps and Cabs
and conan, I would love one of those, but I have problems with my elbows and knees, (dislocated all 4 at various points in my life), so anything over about 40-45kg is way out of what I can comfortably lift. I have had my eye on either the Ampeg 410HLF or 410HE for a while now, but I'm not entirely sure what the difference is (other than impedance).
The Ampeg 410HLF is around 50kg too... and twice the price! The HE is lighter and cheaper. Take your point about the weight though. -

Conan replied to jackers's topic in Amps and Cabs
Obviously, my first thought was to get a 4 Ohm cab, but my choices seem to be quite limited. The Ampeg SVT410HLF is the main contender I have found (or maybe the berg 610/Barefaced S12 if I really save up).
To repeat myself from another thread... How about one of these? 4 ohm? Check. 6x10? Check. Excellent price? Check. Fender Jazz vs Squier Jazz - what's the difference
Conan replied to KingMacca's topic in Bass Guitars
I don't know if you have played an ACG but the QC is very impressive - why buy a Fender when you can have a quality hand made instrument with your choice of options for (pretty much) the same price? No brainer to me.
For some people, resale value is a major consideration. A used Fender will usually command a higher price second hand than any handmade one-off. There is also the (very long term!) potential for appreciation. Not that I'm bothered about such things, but some people are. -
Also, don't worry about repeating an old subject. There's always something new to say which wouldn't get said if all we did was delve into the archives.
Exactly! Nobody is forced to contribute to a thread. If you think it is nothing more than a rehash of an old one, just stay away! New members join all the time and didn't comment on the older threads. People change their opinions and try new things. Most subjects have been covered by now, should what should we do - close down the site?

Fender Jazz vs Squier Jazz - what's the difference
Conan replied to KingMacca's topic in Bass Guitars
In use, I find the biggest difference to be the pickups. Squier ones just tend to sound a bit "watery" and weak IMO. Still, with after-market pickups fairly cheap and easy to come by second hand on here, it's not a problem to whip out the standard ones and pop something decent in! There are other differences of course, but not as noticeable to me.
