1. What scares me most is that I actually like this song...
 2.
fancy wood tops, and backs, a non traditional shape, and looks... well not very much like a fender!
My Status ticks most of these boxes I guess. But I've never thought of it as "fancy". I have played it at many gigs in all kinds of venues. It has been bashed, dinged and buckle-rashed. I'm not sure I understood the question... but does this answer it?
 3.
A black aftermarket plate should be easy enough to find... eg. http://www.ebay.com/...s-/360386102704
Thanks for that. I never even thought to look...
 4.
Let's just get this bloody bass sorted eh?
Yup! And on that note, I asked a question a few pages back about the tuners themselves. Are they firmlly attached to the headstock or is it possible that one of them is rattling, causing what could easily sound like fret buzz?
 5. Them's proper gigs marra!! Would love to get to the Edinburgh one, but logistics sadly make that impossible. Good luck!
 6.
this thread is sadly going around in circles.
Sadly, I am coming to that conclusion.
 7.
Yes, that's it. I have Roto 66, 45 - 105 on right now.
Try a set of 50 - 110 then?
 8.
This is mine...
Is that a black bell plate, or just the angle? If it is, where did you get it? I'd like one of those!
 9.
What gauge would you recommend for D standard tuning?
Do you mean each string tuned down a step? So DGCF? It's not that much of a difference, but what do you normally use? If you usually use 40s, for example, try 45s for the drop tuning. Depends how tight or loose you like your strings - you might not need to change them at all...
 10.
Hi all - newbie so apols for ignorance! I've got a squier jazz (vin mod) and am curious about different string lengths - is it always the case that one bass should have the same length strings, or can you try different lengths on the same bass? Cheers!
As long as they are long enough to go around the machine head a couple of times, it doesn't really matter! Long strings can always be shortened but you can't lengthen short ones!
 11.
Is one type of string easier to get me started than another?
Flats are certainly easier on the fingers, but if you are used to guitar strings that shouldn't be too much of a problem. Go for a "standard" gauge, which would be in the region of 40-100 or 45-105. The brand does make a difference though, as some brands seem "softer" of more loose than others (in terms of the string tension) - even at the same gauges.
 12. Might be better in the "Items wanted" section...
 13.
It's in there buddy. I'm just adopting a proactive marketing strategy
I see. Probably very wise.
 14. Nice bass Joe! But it might do better in the "For Sale" section mate...
 15.
If the DiMarzio is as bad as you say - I'd say it ain't working right, or there's something wrong with the rest of your circuitry!
I was going to suggest that. Aren't DM's known for being quite the opposite?
 16.
No no, he's Archie Leach, This is Carrie Grant VERY Phwooooaarr....
17. Another big +10000000 for Interparcel. I recently shipped a bass and got quotes from both IP and Parcel2go. IP undercut P2G by a tenner and the bass was picked up THAT afternoon and received at the other end of the country first thing the next morning!! Well impressed.
 18.

Aaaaw! My first ever bass amp! I used to love that old thing...
 19.
These days local rehearsal facilities are quite upmarket - least round here and charge between £25-30 per night. For that type of money i think you should expect a decent backline and kit with a PA and mixer in a clean sound prepared room thats big enough.
We use this one http://www.notes-studios.co.uk/ and it definitely ticks all of the above boxes. I like to bring my own backline, but on occasions when I can't be arsed, there is reasonable quality stuff already there. Ashdown MAG anyway... PAs are good quality, but obviously not top-line pro gear. Service is polite and friendly and they are very helpful indeed. You could do a lot worse than speak to Phil (the owner)!
 20.
If a string slips, it is not anchored properly...
Or the tuning peg/machine head mechanism itself is slipping. Is this a possibility here?
 21.
It could be down to all sorts of reasons, it seems likely that the quality of the pickup may be the case. Perhaps it has worn out over use. I don't remember the sound levels when i first played it, i've had it for ten years. However as i play over the pickup it maybe the accumulated gunk having an effect on it's ability to hear the higher frequencies more clearly.
Didn't you say it was an EMG? They are top quality pickups and as your bass appears to only be around 15 years old, it is highly unlikey that the pickup would have experienced any kind of deterioration... IME anyway!
 22.
The title of your thread is "MY CRAP BASS" - if that's not saying your bass isn't any good then I'd like to know what is. There are lots of people on here genuinely trying to help you out & I've got to say that your attitude towards them stinks. I've given you the benefit of the doubt until now but I honestly think you're just trolling. Please don't bother posting another one of your "I'm terribly hurt & nobody understands me" responses to this - I've read enough of them already.
I thought we were trying to calm things down and get back to the problem in hand? This has become a very bizarre thread. There have been selfless offers of personal assistance and petty abuse in the space of a few pages. Very odd.
 23. As above. Sounds good, lasts forever but heavy as hell. If you are strong and/or have roadies - Peavey gear is great. First "proper" bass amp I used was an old mk IV and I still miss the soundI used to get out of it.
