Music Man Stingray 4HH - I do love a Stingray, but I'm not convinced about the necessity of the existence of the 4HH. It was a lovely bass, but it was bloody heavy and didn't really do much that my others Stingray's couldn't.
Interesting. I haven't played one, but I think that would be the best option for a Stingray for me. I do like to have the flexibility of two pickups...
The Lee Ritenour clip i thought the bassist was good up until that spanking the strings section where i thought it was very amatuerish compared to what he was doing throughout the rest of the song. That wasn't entertaining for me i'm afraid. Dave
It's kind of a trademark of his. I think it's fun, but I can see how it would come across as a bit like the bass equivalent of Dad Dancing...

Spector Euro 4LX. Possibly an unpopular choice... Some awesome tones, but the preamp output was WAY too hot (and no trimpot on this version). The ergonomics just didn't work for me and although I liked the tone, it didn't fit the band I was in at the time. Traded it for a Fender Marcus Miller Jazz, which was also a bit meh. Too heavy and with a stupid preamp. I can work with most instruments, but those two were moved on pretty quickly - the beauty of the Basschat market place!
Thanks people ,I'm just pondering I'm keeping my gear...
Gear is cheap, and fortunately decent gear is pretty cheap too these days. Why have stuff sitting around cluttering up your living space if you don't intend to use it? Flog it and buy something you want/need. If you come back to bass in the future, setting yourself up again with decent gear won't cost all that much. Good luck whatever you decide!
He needed to do something interesting.....A hammer would have done it. Have to say this is the typical long drawn out kind of bass solo that was typical in the 80s full of all the self indulgent things which are practiced at home in front of the mirror instead of what he should of been practicing. No real meaningful musical content either. Its the kind of bass solo that gives the anti slap bass dept the justification to put it down. The drummer also helped by giving him no dynamic whatsoever instead choosing to play hard and loud through out forcing him to go for maximum hitting force rather than dexterity and taste. IMO of course
I would agree with pretty much every word of that! Still, it could have been worse... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPOiZ7p373g
However, my personal experience is not picking songs that I happen to like. IMO that would be a recipe for disaster.
Why is that? if you are in a band playing a certain style or genre of music, presumably it is (at least partly) because you like that style of music? Does it not then logically follow that you will like some (or even most) of the songs? It seems very odd to be playing in a material that you don't like...
There's zero issue with playing a major 6th over a minor chord. It's absolutely normal. Lots more minor scales out there than Natural Minor/Aeolian ;-)
Quite.

Opinions on this pick guard please, just out of curiosity.
My point is if the bb2 can give as presence as the compact 15 give for example.
The "Compact" has a fifteen inch driver, but the Supercompact has a twelve... they are different cabinets.

Maybe the same tone, but more of it...?

1986 Westone Thunder 1A Purple Haze Strings W/ Original Case!! £350
Conan replied to ChazzJEUK's topic in Basses For Sale
I recently "came by" one of the passive Thunders. I'd always hankered after one back in the eighties but never got one. Extremely playable basses with excellent standards of fit and finish. Try finding solid brass hardware on a "cheap" far eastern bass these days! I don't understand the huge (asking) price difference between the passives and the actives. Is the active circuit really that awesome? Or were there fewer actives made and sold? It makes little sense to me - especially as the passives are such good basses and easily as good as much that you would pay £500-800 for these days... I'll be watching this one with interest. Good luck! -
Alex's post on Facebook says it's 'Magic' which seems a dubious claim to me.
Listen to music you like (or even don't like) and pay particular attention to what the bass player is doing.

Play a completely different genre of music to get different feel, approaches and shapes on the fretboard in to your playing.
I agree with both of the above. Take yourself out of your usual comfort zone and listen to some really different stuff. The bass players don't have to be particularly virtuoso-like, but they will all have different approaches. Practice what you have heard and liked. Yes, playing in a band gives you an opportunity to incorporate these new skills into your own repertoire, but it really depends on the other musicians. If they are all trying to do the same thing as you, it could become a real mess! On the other hand, we bass players can learn a lot by listening to our bandmates in terms of how they play fills/trills etc.
If the higher value is 12 ohms, that suggest the speakers are 6 ohms each, which results in 3 ohms when wired in parallel.
Assuming there are no other resistors in the switching circuit. I am no electrical engineer, but I imagine that this could be done quite simply?

So sad to hear this. One of the true greats and regularly my Highway Companion. RIP Tom

My heaviest was probably a Fender Marcus Miller jazz. A four string at that! Not ridiculously heavy at around 11lbs, but that, combined with the stupidly complex (for me) East pre-amp encouraged me to move it on rather quickly. I could have happily gigged with it if it played and sounded awesome - but it was a bit one-dimensional.
