1. It's always a tough time. I am in the process of quitting a band. Completely different reasons, but it always leaves a bad taste in the mouth... Sounds like you need a bit of time out after this one.
 2.
Thanks for your reaction Conan! Total: €281,50 (which is 233 pounds.)
Oh right! That's not bad at all then. I had no idea you paid so little for the bass! Nice job
 3.
I wouldn't worry about tiny cosmetic quibbles such as that gap between the neck heel and the scratchplate. No-one will be able to tell!
Exactly. And some Fenders have a similar gap apparently!
 4.
The biggest surprise was the Affinity (black, rosewood). What a bass for £180! Light, nice neck, sounded, looked and played like a P. Looks a little cheap and wimpy pups but really impressive. But I don't want one. If that was the only thing on offer it'd be fine, but it's not! All I know so far is an Affinity is too cheap and cheerful
So if the Affinity cost £500 you'd buy one?! I know what you mean though. But for the price of a decent pickup upgrade (which could be as little as £20!) you could a have a bass that plays well, sounds good and looks fine!! Oh, and about £600 to spend on other stuff...
 5.
collection from basingstoke
Is posting an option?
 6.
I recently got my hands on one of these, with a view to maybe stripping the body for a bitsa project. However, having played it, it feels like a good one, so I've decided to leave it alone as it's really rather good and it seems a bit cruel to part it out. Also with an upcoming house project I haven't got the time. Anyway good luck with the sale
Thanks! They really do punch above their weight. I've played MIM Precisions that I didn't like as much as this bass!
 7. Bump for the addition of pictures. Plenty more available if anyone wants them.
 8. What do you mean when you say it is an "early" model? These were first made in the mid 1990s weren't they? What year is this one?
 9. Believe it or not, this was my main bass until a couple of weeks ago.... And, yes, I own a Status! I bought it on here last year and liked it straight away as it just felt "right". The neck is lovely and it is very playable. However, there were a few issues that I found hard to live with: The original pickups gave a rather weak sound (brilliantly described by the Bass Doc as "watery"!). Not "bad" as such, just lacking in balls. The solution? A rather nice GFS replacement. http://www.guitarfet...-hot_p_334.html installed by the Bass Doc who also put in CTS pots. Tone sorted. The scratchplate was not only a cheap and nasty white single-ply affair, but was cracked and slightly stained. This was replaced by a Bass Doc custom-made white/black/white 3 ply version Looks smart indeed. It was also re-strung with a set of 45-105 DR Hi-Beams. Sound-tastic!! http://www.stringsdi...el_bass_strings It also comes with a brand-new Fender standard gig bag (worth about £20).http://www.soundsliv...ag~ID~12591.asp So why am I selling it? Well, after having a pair of Wizard Hammers installed in my J copy I find that the J does just about everything that the P does, and I just don't need four basses! Yes, you could buy one of these brand new for around £165 - but would it be as good a player as this one? It certainly wouldn't sound as good and wouldn't have a gig bag with it! There are a couple of very minor dings, the worst one is just visible in pic 2. I'm looking for a very reasonable £125. I'm happy to post it if the buyer arranges their own courier. I will also deliver locally or meet up half way for petrol costs... See how eager to please I am?
 10.
Bit of a PS here - took the Ged to rehearsal last night. Used the info given here, and from a similar topic over on TB. Difference was astounding - like a different bass. Loads of top, middle and bottom. Really cut through whatever the 2 guitarists threw at it. A small tweak of the bass control and amp EQ.....total transformation, and heaps of presence. Proves what a bass the Jazz is....the Ged now safely re-instated as my no.1 bass around!
Great news! It also shows that many people are far too quick to go down the upgrade/replacement route without first exploring the simple options. You could always take Ged's own advice, and use "Different Strings"...
 11. I like these... http://www.guitarfetish.com/GFS-PB-Pro-PLUS-OVERWOUND-Alnico-P-Bass-style-VERY-hot_p_334.html
 12. I'm intrigued... how much of the original bass is left now? Just the body? How much have you spent on it in total? I'm asking out of interest, not trying to be funny. I have done some upgrades on my Squier Affinity P, but I would hesitate to replace the neck, especially as that was what made it such a good player in the first place! Pickups have been upgraded to GFS http://www.guitarfetish.com/GFS-PB-Pro-PLUS-OVERWOUND-Alnico-P-Bass-style-VERY-hot_p_334.html Pots are CTS and the Bass Doc custom made a W/B/W plate to replace the cracked standard one. It plays great, but to be honest I think the most noticeable upgrade was a decent set of strings! DR hi-beams to be exact. It's a shame so many people overlook the strings and go straight on to replacing parts...
 13. It's still good on PW, but not so good on Hold your Fire IMO... Shame, as some of his lines on HYF are beautiful.
 14.
Signals is almost a 50/50 split between the Rick and the Jazz: The Digital Man - Jazz
Really?! I always thought that DM was played on the Steinberger?!?!
 15. Anth just bought my Squier Strat, collecting in person and paying cash in used notes... Nice guy and a pleasure to do business with again! Cheers mate.
 16. If.... just if, you were to sell it rather than trade - what sort of ballpark figure might you be looking for...?
 17.
If you're passing through Aberdeen sometime...
Who the hell "passes through" Aberdeen??
 18.
After all, look at me - a 52 year old, twin Fodera owner plus a BMW K1200GT, Aprilia RSVR 1,000 Factory & a Harley mild custom sitting in the garage
I think the "look at me" comment speaks for itself... However, that is just petty jealousy on my part talking.
 19.
One thing slightly saddens me. This bass will almost certainly never see a gig, at least not at the weekly jam down at the Ferret and Scrotum.
I've just bought it, so you can be happy now BD! See it at the Station in Killingworth next month. It will be just behind the three enormous security guards at stage left...
