One diet coke lasts me all night and, yes, I have a bladder like a Blue Whale.
At least you don't have a foreskin like a Blue Whale. That would be a major drawback...
It's £90 in that shop though, can easy bag a better bass on eBay for that.
You reckon? Without even playing one you know that it would be rubbish?
Well I just ordered one from our local SR. Be here by the weekend so I'll report back.
Looking forward to that Tom! The wood in the neck and body alone have to be worth sixty quid!
If it's reasonably well put together then am I the only one struggling to see the down side here?
Hard to say without playing one.... It certainly looks OK as a starter bass/mod project. I suspect that large headstock might make it a bit neck heavy. Just has a better look... it's half the original price. Alder body and maple neck!!! For sixty quid?!?!
I find intervals pointless.
Either you drink less beer than I do, or your bladder is stronger!!

"The LB-30 Little Bastard Drophead 15H Combo will be around £1350 putting it in the right kind of range for most working bassists." I don't bloody think so!! Is that a standard Ashdown speaker in there?
Interesting. Did you put the Eminences in? If so, how did it change the sound compared to the Celestions?
I was going to ask a similar question. I don't know much about speaker manufacturers, but would this be considered as an 'upgrade' or simply a like-for-like swap?
I imagine I'd be hung drawn and quartered by certain BC members for what I did to my 1970s P - Di Marzio pickup, homebuilt active preamp (with attendant routing under scratchplate) and modified scratchplate with a brass control plate section equivalent to the chrome section of a Jazz.
I suspect you're right! But did it sound/play better?
A common-or-garden pub gig round these parts is 2x45s.
Yup. Some pubs even have a curfew at the end of the night, so if you think you might be going to go down well, it's worth starting a bit earlier... Does that make sense?

I see a blue bass and I want to paint it black....

Isn't This Called 'Sentence Case'?
Yep

for the price it went for you could budget for a refin (black would look good), and have a decent bass there.
So it's not a decent bass if it's blue - but painting it black would make it decent?

Interesting how little repetition there is on this thread... Just a thought!
The thing with the guys you mention,is that although they all have great chops, they have all played their share of 'simple' basslines. Many of their bass parts are not always as complex as they may appear (Claypool in particular).
Once again the word 'context' is of vital importance. All of those artists have a huge back catalogue of material, played solo or as part of a band (playing their own material) or a band playing as a session player, at Music industry shows (where they are expected to demo gear and it goes without saying that they will be trying to show that gear in a good light... Some people like complex music. Not just the musicians playing it, but the audience themselves. Bass is not just a backing instrument. Bass is not just a solo instrument. Every player lies somewhere on the continuum between these two extremes, and at different times and in different contexts their position can and will vary. Which is as it should be!

Help Needed - Great Funk & Disco Basslines?
Conan replied to chuck_stones's topic in General Discussion
Anything featuring Larry Graham or Louis Johnson! Bernard Edwards too... -
...hopefully somebody will restore it to something like it's original glory
Now this is something I just don't get about the 'vintage' bass market - and particularly that for Fenders. IMV, if you buy a bass it's yours and anything you wish to do to it to suit your own personality, style, taste, etc is just fine with me. Fair enough, if you then wish to sell it on - don't BS people by claiming that it is 'original', but other than that, what the heck? Why is it always assumed that original = good and that modified = bad on Fenders? Maybe he had no intention of ever selling it? Back in 1998, when the mods were allegedly done, that bass was only just 20 years old. It may not even be a particularly good example! To pimp it up and get 13 years of fun out of it seems like a good call to me... Confused.

Cool! The Alembic Played On Simple Minds' New Gold Dream
Conan replied to Clarky's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Needs a bit of work but yeah cheap. I sold my black Spoiler for £1500 a few months back on eBay
Interesting one. As one of the 'cheaper' Alembics I would have thought that you got a very good price for yours at £1500 Clarky... As far as Derek's bass goes, the damage and the age would lower it's value to well below a grand IMV - but how much does its history really add to the value? I think he may be a bit ambitious setting the reserve that high. Having said that, New Gold Dream is one of my all-time favourite albums. I always loved the bass tone, but never realised it was a Spoiler! I guessed it was a P. Shows what I know! -
Hi, Yes, you can get something of a mid hump but it still remains very smooth (may be due to Neo Speakers) speakers
Hmmmm. Dunno about that, the Barefaced Compact - which weighs about the same or less than your cab - has a neo driver. Although it is regarded as being full-range and pretty flat, if you are used to a 'scooped' tone you will find it has a real 'shouty' mid-range. Worth a look, and a second-hand one should be around the price you are asking for your Tech cab. Just a thought.
I've said it in a previous thread - there's a lot of great stuff I don't play.
Me too. All that Victor Wooten stuff. I don't play any of it. Which, in a bizarre and slightly ironic way, actually makes me a better player than him. Of course, I could play it* - but I don't. Self control, that's the secret. *Sadly, this bit is a lie.

This quality case is about a year old and has only had light usage by my 13 year old son. As such is has a few minor surface marks but nothing more than that. No structural damage at all, so I would describe the condition as 'very good'. http://www.gatorcases.com/Default.aspx?Sec...;CatalogID=9316 Pics of the actual case to follow. These retail at around £75 (plus shipping). Looking for £45 or nearest offer. Shipping at buyer's expense or local pickup. As the case is light, shipping should not be more than a tenner, probably less.
