Wasn't there a "slappers'" version that had metal plates on the body end of the fretboard? Or did I just dream that? BTW, at work I can't see the pictures - so if there is a pic of such a bass above I apologise!
Why do I feel guilty every time I look at this post. I'd have this but as I'm in France, it'd end up as £120 with delivery. He's 12 for God's sake and making the effort to work and save up. One of you a bit nearer must have £35 to start your nipper off on guitar. Worst way, it's a bump.
Just spotted this post. Thanks a lot! He's thirteen now BTW but this has still not sold! Lots of love for Westfield basses at the moment, and , er.... Westwood sounds kinda similar! Snowy TIM! -
Thats an excellent price! Where can I find these sub £100 bargains?!
You can have mine for that!!
You think 5's are ugly. Take a look at this. http://www.alembic.com/info/fc_trip.html
Nice colour! I love the idea of "bass strings" and "treble strings"... My 4 is my main bass. Mainly because I've had it and played it for 25 years so it just feels "right" to me. I also have a five. To be fair, I have not really invested as much time as I should have in practising on it. I use it only when I "need" notes lower than Eb (my status is dropped a semi-tone anyway). That is not very often, so I still feel a little bit overwhelmed by the five string! My fault. The Cort 5 is a decent bass, but is nowhere near being in the same league as the Status 4 in terms of sounds, tone, playability, balance, etc. That is probably the main reason why I only dabble on fives. If the quality differential was the other way round (i.e. five string Status, four string Cort) then i suspect that my main axe would be a five!! I also don't understand this "string-ism" argument. Play what you like! If you feel that an instrument limits you and what you can play - it's the wrong instrument!

Strange....use of two 4x10s hardly made any difference to using one!
I actually realised how much I quite like 4x10s. Id love a Berg/Genz/Aguilar 4x10.
Er... didn't you just sell one a few months ago? -
2. 26 pounds seems very light. I have known some cab makers to be less than honest on their weight ratings. Is it really 26LBS
I haven't placed one on the scales, but all I can say is that when I first picked one up I did a real "double-take"!! I assumed that Alex must have forgotten to put a speaker in the box!! Incredibly light. My twelve year old son sometimes accompanies me to rehearsals, and even for him the Compact was a one-handed lift! Tone-wise, massive - that's massive mid-range honk/growl. I think of it as "shouty". No problems being heard with this one. As WoT says, the sparkly ultra-top end is lacking but if you want that I guess this cab wouldn't be your first call anyway. Again, the sub-woofer lows are not there either but other than mushing up the on-stage sound, do they really contribute much? If you are simply using your on-stage set-up as a monitor and going through a decent PA you won't need that low end anyway. If you like the tone (and I think it is rather subjective and depends what you are used to) then your arms and back will definitely thank you for it!!

At the risk of incurring criticism, I honestly don't understand why this is seen as a big problem. I can see that some people have been unlucky and therefore feel bitter, and others have been lucky and therefore feel smug/benevolent! Yes, there is a "community" feeling on here - even though it can be sorely tried by some of the comments that are made (or taken) out of context. My own feeling (based on fairly limited experience of buying, trading and selling on here) is that what goes around comes around. Anyone who is widely viewed as taking the piss will end up shunned by the majority and subsequently find it difficult to deal on here. Guys (and I use that term in a non-gender specific way!) who are regarded as being "cool", fair, call it what you will; will usually shift gear pretty quickly. If both buyer and seller are happy with the price/deal, is it really anyone else's business?

Sadly they are not much use with a Status series II...!

Notes Studios in North Shields has an old Trace 4x10 combo running through an anonymous 1x15 extension cab in one room, and Ashdown MAG stuff in the other two. When I'm feeling lazy, they do the job, but I try to take my own backline wherever possible. I can't believe that there are rehearsal places that have MarkBass gear!! How much extra do they charge per hour? We pay £12.50 an hour whether we use their gear or not.
My guess is that the 6-7dB won't be that noticeable for most people. How many people use an 8x10" at full power?
I may be wrong here, but isn't the decibel scale logarithmic? Meaning that an increase in 10dB makes a sound 10 times louder? In which case, would 6-7 dB be a huge increase in perceived volume? If I'm wrong of course, please ignore this b0ll0cks!!
I'm guessing you mean Speakon (Neutrik) sockets, rather than XLR.
Trace cabs have XLR, not speakon. (At least my old mk IV gear did...)
i hate the 'compressed' sound you get if the mids are too high.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "compressed tone"... Can you be a bit more specific?

It's good playing... technically impressive and all that.... But it leaves me a bit cold. Were the drummer and bass player playing together in the same room at the same time? There doesn't seem to be a lot of interaction going on.
I would have assumed he was a troll from the first post. Hoever his record of pretty much only posting things to sell, rather than making any form of positive contribution, suggests he really does not understand how forums work... IMHO of course... I've found Basschat an excellent place - probably the best UK focused musical forum there is in fact... Mark
Absolutely!! Market forces and all that. Advertising something on here often makes one aware of that item's true value, rather than what you would ideally like it to be worth... I've had no problem buying or selling (or trading) on here. But maybe I'm a smidgin more realistic in my expectations?

My Cort Curbow 5 is very light, so I don't imagine a six would be much heavier...
Might be mad here, but looking for a trade for something else.... 4 month old Barefaced BigOne in mint condition + a lovely Eden WT800 amp. This rig rocks!
Slightly off topic maybe... but I'd be genuinely interested to know why you want to change your rig? Sounds like you have everything there - volume, tone and portability!
