Compact looks like a good option, it's just a cash issue at the moment, so i'm mainly gathering opinons.
There have been a couple of second hand ones come up recently, but they go very quickly at the £300-350 price range. Keep your eyes peeled!
I already have an ashdown 4x10, one the brilliant MAG series, the ones with the blue cones. Paid a lot for it but I'm really happy...
Fixed it for you
Don't think it's a neo cab.
The pic of the back plate clearly states that the speakers are Nd.... Its confusing though, as the USA ceramic cab is rated at 1600W and the UK Neo at 1050W - whereas this one says 1200W on the back plate...

What did you make of the touring BFB Compact when you tried it out? I'll probably get flamed (oops! Sorry! ) for being a sycophantic Claber groupie, but it sounds to me like one of these cabs would give the kind of tone you are looking for as well as plenty of volume and hardly any mass at all... Of course, if you didn't like it.... I am selling two rather fine Ashdown 410s that will give you the tone you've always been searching for!

Nice! Some pretty decent bass faces there too!
I'm of the opinion that punk should have been taken outside and shot in 1979.
As late as that?

Loved them in the 80s, but I feel as if I've moved on and they haven't. I'm not a big one for the "nostalgia" market... So no - I won't be seeing them on this tour!
Beaten to it by Geoff!
I'm as fast as a fifteen inch speaker!
Goddammit, another NE bass minibash I've missed...I really must check into BC more often!
It was actually all pretty impromptu and was originally going to be me and WoT trying out BE's Vintage. It slightly escalated from there, but there were only five of us!
From my POV, it doesn't much matter what or wasn't tweaked as there is no law that says you can't touch the amp or bass, for that matter.
The point being made was that the two BFB cabs sounded very similar to the Bass Doc's Old EV-loaded Fender 2x15, which is somewhat of a legend in the North East for it's biting, toppy attack. Thus proving that fifteen inch speakers are not inherently "slow or muddy". Further comparisons were made with a variety of cabs loaded with tens and twelves and, if anything, the fifteens came out as the most trebley option.
It was Howard The Bass Doc's GK, EQ'd to replicate his preferred tone through his lovely Fender 2x15.
Which has more treble than a very trebley thing! Both BFB cabs produced an equal amount of top end, but seemed to have richer midrange (to my ears anyway...)
I may have lost track of proceedings, but I think those clips were all through Uncle Horrid's Gallien-Kreuger, EQd just how he likes it... a crank of the "presence", and maybe a little boost in the bottom. As it were.
Oh. Yes, you might be right there
-
Yup - he's pretty much nailed that one!
-
EQ on the amp was set completely flat BTW... Nice quality vid WoT! Of course, it doesn't quite convey the deep, warm low end that the cabs (particularly the Vintage) chuck out!

I recently had the pleasure of "doing business" with Chris over his Alembic Epic and its possible trade for my Status. He's a lovely lad who knows his stuff, and I would totally and unreservedly recommend him! Cheers mate!
The problem with blaming Phil Collins for all the bad Genesis songs from '78 onwards is that many of the worst Genesis songs were written by Tony Banks or Mike Rutherford!
Yeah, but let's blame the bald guy anyway!
Different strokes for different folks -- I think Johns playing on that is great -- each instrumentalist should be allowed artistic expression or we may as well listen to machines...
True, but that section of the track is all about the guitar solo. It needs space and a gentle touch from the other musicians - especially as Wetton is not even attempting to replicate the feel of the original Rutherford bass part. IMO of course!
Based on the clip in the OP, I'm very glad he wasn't. FoF usually has a lovely understated groove which Mr. Wetton manages to drown in noodling.
Totally agree! You can hardly tell that it's the same track! Horrible self-indulgent semi-soloing from Wetton that ruins the delicate ambience of one of my favourite Genesis tracks. Yuck! I was expecting him to start slapping! I don't like it.

Can I just say that this is a lovely bass. It was me than it was on loan to and, as Chris says it is a beautiful instrument that practically plays itself - even for a fretless beginner like myself! The preamp gives a huge range of tones, and its amount of cut/boost is so strong that you have to be subtle in its use! Very effective! I've decided to hang on to my Status, but if I had a bit of spare cash (that wasn't intended for a new lightweight cab!) I would very probably be buying this bass! Chris is a lovely lad and knows his stuff - so buy/trade with confidence!
