Different strokes for different folks -- I think Johns playing on that is great -- each instrumentalist should be allowed artistic expression or we may as well listen to machines...
True, but that section of the track is all about the guitar solo. It needs space and a gentle touch from the other musicians - especially as Wetton is not even attempting to replicate the feel of the original Rutherford bass part. IMO of course!
  2. Bump for price drop to encourage interest!
  3. Is that a Fender neck or a bit of judicious decal naughtiness?
  4.
Based on the clip in the OP, I'm very glad he wasn't. FoF usually has a lovely understated groove which Mr. Wetton manages to drown in noodling.
Totally agree! You can hardly tell that it's the same track! Horrible self-indulgent semi-soloing from Wetton that ruins the delicate ambience of one of my favourite Genesis tracks. Yuck! I was expecting him to start slapping! I don't like it.
  5. Can I just say that this is a lovely bass. It was me than it was on loan to and, as Chris says it is a beautiful instrument that practically plays itself - even for a fretless beginner like myself! The preamp gives a huge range of tones, and its amount of cut/boost is so strong that you have to be subtle in its use! Very effective! I've decided to hang on to my Status, but if I had a bit of spare cash (that wasn't intended for a new lightweight cab!) I would very probably be buying this bass! Chris is a lovely lad and knows his stuff - so buy/trade with confidence!
  6. These are nice cabs -and don't let anyone tell you that they are shy in the top-end response!

  8. Sadly they don't work for headless basses!

    Neckdive
Where to?
I was wondering that.... If it's already at the end of the horn, as I presume it is, its not as though you can move anywhere useful. Best advice I had is to get a very wide strap made out of some kind of non-slip material (leather with a soft inner surface is good). Also, try playing about with the position you play in... neck horizontal, neck at a steeper angle, etc. You may not be able to stop the neckdive (without shaving the neck and headstock significantly) but at least you can make it more manageable.
  10.
I was genuinely shocked when I picked it up.
It really is a double-take moment isn't it?
  11.
Hi Conan Interesting! Can you put your finger on what that 'sound' is?
Not really... I always find it difficult describing sounds! Lots of people use the term "punchy" but I am never sure exactly what it means. I think the compact sounds clear, strong and powerful. It seems to be strong on the middle part of the mid-range... Best I can do I'm afraid!
  12. It's interesting that even though I used the same cab with a totally different amp and bass (LH500 and Status), there is a clearly identifiable "sound" on WoT's recording that I remember well! So maybe the idea that cabs themselves have a characteristic sound is not unreasonable? It certainly isn't slow and muddy to my ears! Be interesting to hear it compared to the Vintage...

  14.
Love it, Squire is the business..didn't know he played a Jazz on that album, or was it just this track?
He still manages to sound like himself... indeed the Jazz sounds like a Rick! Great vid - another thanks for posting
  15.
...having had a Mag 8x10" this setup will be very, very good
Cheers mate! I love the way it sounds, just my old arms and back will thank me for something lighter!
  16.
I've got a 2x15" for sale but ain't light
I know! I've been looking at it! If it was 4 ohm I think I might be tempted, especialy as you are fairly easy to get to when I'm up in Edinburgh... But I think the time has come to explore lightweight cabs this time. Thanks for bringing it to my attention though!
  17. It's looking increasingly likely that my next speaker solution will be a lightweight 2x15 - Possibly Barefaced Vintage or Purple Chili PCB215NT. So... I need to shift my trusty twosome to make houseroom and generate funds! Would rather shift them as a pair, but if you only want one of them I'll consider that too. http://www.soundslive.co.uk/common/showima...MAG410TDEEP.jpg Most of you will be familiar with this spec, although mine are the previous model, so they have the blue speakers, carpet covering and metal grilles. They are 8ohm cabs and are rated at 450w each. Pictures of the actual cabs to follow when Mrs C comes home and shows me how to use the camera... but they are in decent condition with no buzzes, rattles, etc. http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...ep+Cabinet/10/1 For the money (these cost £259 new) these cabs are excellent. They provide deep smooth bass, crunchy highs and a good, tight midrange. I have played an Ampeg SVT-200T and Hartke LH500 through them and have been happy with the sound. I just find them a bit heavy and bulky for shifting in and out of cars and rehearsal studios at the moment! They are both about 18 months old, and were bought or traded from fellow BC forum members earlier this year. I am in Newcastle upon Tyne and would prefer the buyer to collect due to the size and mass of the cabs. I am happy to meet half way or even drop them off for petrol money though. So come and get some serious volume and tone for a great price! Looking for £300 or serious offers around this price. Not really interested in trades at the moment (unless you've got a lightweight 2x15!). But it never hurts to ask does it?
large norks tend to go floppy and droop at a younger age than smaller perter firmer breasts.....anything bigger than a handful is likely to get veiny and hang round the waist by the time she hits 30 or drops sprogs....so I tend to avoid 'em.
I can live with that!

  22.
So who plays bass for the money? I know I don't. I do get paid but that's not my motivation.
That puts you in a pretty privileged position then, I would say. But I still don't see how or why that gives you the right to question or criticise the motivations of others...
  23.
Absolutely Why would anyone want to flip McD burgers when they could be creating unique culinary experiences?
And, of course, your band does exactly that? Also, not everyone who enjoys cooking wants to be a Michelin-starred superchef. I personally am a good cook and I love cooking... but sometimes I crave a fish finger sandwich. And no, that's not a euphemism! )
