Is this is light or the regular one? Does any one know how this would compare with a BareFaced Compact? Cheers,
Price-wise and size-wise, I'd say they were pretty similar! Sound-wise I can't comment I'm afraid as I've never A/B'ed them... And if this is the regular cab, it will be heavier than the Compact too, which is not necessarily bad as the Compact weighs less than a gerbil's pubic hair!
I was expecting this to turn into another spec vs ears thread.
Don't they all! I'd be interested to know what you mean by "fragile" though, in reference to the Compact. You mean build quality or sound?
Indeed. Also, Howard the Bass Doc's Fender 2x15 is a seriously trebly cab. Bite-tastic.
Agreed. And Howard uses a P with flats on it!! Having just tried the touring BFB Compact I can also vouch for that fact. With everything else in the sound chain identical, the single 15 in the Compact gave more mids, more crunch, punch (call it what you like) and presence than my Ashdown 410s. In fact, if the Compact was lacking in any part of the sounds spectrum, it was the real low end. To my ears anyway. OK, Ashdown ain't top-end gear - but it just shows that the actual diameter of the speakers themselves appears to be irrelevant.

We seem to be seeing a lot of the old prejudices aboout speakers and cabinets coming out now. This could get interesting!!

Thanks Merton! "Big price" probably means in the £800-900 range then I reckon.... which is a bit steep for me at the mo. Now, if someone just happened to be selling a used Vintage....

Hmmmm.... PCB215NT versus BFB Vintage, eh? :brow: Both handmade in England. Both very cool looking. Both very light yet capable of handling high power. So much for the similarities - but what about the differences? Anyone here experienced BOTH?
I'd suggest having a chat with Alex about the Barefaced Big Twin.
I can't find reference to a "Big Twin" on his website.... is this a new model? Super 12 - yes, Big Baby - Yes, Big One - Yes....
+1 to the BF Vintage Staggeringly good cab...
Stop it! Just tell me where I can get one!
if I was going for a 215 cab I would check out the Barefacedbass Vintage first.
If you can find one!! I have the same dilemma...
You let me worry about how I live my life.
Oddly though, that's not the attitude you extend towards others - you clearly worry about how they live theirs and have no qualms about telling them how to do so! A slight case of double standards perhaps? Doesn't seem to be much content about Fodera and their prices on this thread now.... For what it's worth, my opinion on their prices is that I am happy for them to charge whatever they like! I have no interest in them or their instruments - except that I would love to try one, just to see what all the hype is about. I have no desire to ever own one. But maybe that's just inverse snobbery on my part?
I'm missing tens too much and I've always wanted a berg. I'm very excited indeed!!
It's interesting what you say about "missing tens" as according to all the Barefaced blurb, speakers of a certain size (diameter?) do not have a "sound". What exactly about the Compact do you not like? What is it about the tens that you miss? Just out of interest of course...
Well, it's going to have to work harder than I thought tonight... Just got to the gig, and we're not using the subs. Should be innaresting...
I can be there in an hour with a couple of 4x10s!!!

I think I've seen that cab somewhere before...! I thoroughly enjoyed using it. Thanks Alex for allowing us the opportunity to do so. Enjoy it WoT, and let us know how it copes with your punishing itinerary! P.S. Love to know how it sounds with the RH450.

It's a classic case of swings and roundabouts... If you buy and old, used, cheap cab and get it couriered then yes - the shipping might be as much as the cab itself! But as the value of the item increases, so the relative cost of the shipping gets less! I shipped an extremely heavy Ampeg head (as heavy as many cabs!) to Eire and it came to less than forty quid, even including enhanced insurance. At the end of the day, if you want something but can't collect it yourself, then you have to pay someone else. Think of it this way - its still cheaper than driving there and back!
Ive tried the Compact and light it may be, but it couldnt keep up my 4x10....
Hmmmm. That wasn't my experience, but I guess it depends on your particular 4x10! Are you talking about your Orange or your old Berg Gareth? Both are, incidentally, a lot more expensive than a Compact!
Bass cabs sound better on the ground/stage. If you have to have your sound nearer to your ears, get a second cab.
This!
I would be sorely tempted with a Hartke LH500 or LH1000(both of which IMO sound better than loads of far more expensive amps)coupled with one of alex's barefaced cabs.
Good call - but depends on budget again as there are few BFB cabs available second hand and they ain't the cheapest option when bought new!

I got my Cort Corbow 5 from Thomann. It lists at around £500 but I got it (last September) for £322 (with free shipping!). For the price its a great bass - very playable, if slightly limited in it's tonal range. Fortunately, its basic tone is good and very "usable". Looks are a bit strange TBH - I like it, but I know that others hate it! Just another suggestion to mull over!
-
the LH500 gets a lot of love here on Basschat.
Yup. I used to wonder what that was all about - until I got one! Quality tones and loads of volume at a budget price. Not so many around second hand at the moment, but with such a low new price it may not be worth waiting for one to come up... So now you just need to decide on a cab!

Anyone seen the movie "Still Crazy"? Remember the track "Scream Freedom"??
