I would hardly describe Mesa and Ampeg as "cheap gear" mind! For many people, that's still a pretty aspirational rig. Enjoy!

Junkyard Dog (Tears on stone) by Winger. Good track in a Metallica-esque stylee!

Always good to have another addition to the "Geordie Mafia" on here! Y'alreet kidda?
Nope, I was hoping to have it for last weekend but it didn't happen. I've got a gig this weekend in Edinburger, with PA support so fingers crossed will have it for then and will pass it on from there.
No worries! We leave Edinburgh on sunday afternoon, so I'll PM you the details (address etc). If it doesn't happen this weekend, so be it - I have another cunning plan!

Nice set-up! Bet that cab's heavy though!?
-
Are they wired separately to the speakers or is it one complete circuit? Would disconnecting the tweeters stop the speakers receiving current? Should they be bypassed?
-
I'm finding the tweeters in my two Ashdown MAG 410s a wee bit on the aggressive side, and was wondering if it is possible to disconnect them without affecting the impedance of the cab or the functioning of the ten inch drivers? There is no tweeter control on the cabs - they are permanently in the "on" position!
-
I guess it depends what you want it FOR... Purely from a volume point of view, I would go with (and did) the two 410s. I don't fool myself that any old 410s will sound like an SVT810 though just by linking two of them together! On the other hand, I can separate them if I only need one cab - which obviously I can't with an 810. If 810s didn't offer some kind of advantage (other than egotistical ones!) then surely they would have disappeared from product ranges decades ago? Having said that, if they are so great, how come there are so many of them available for peanuts on ebay etc? It's a dilemma, right enough! I think it's maybe one of those things you've just gotta try. Get it out of your system/find the rig you've always wanted - delete as appropriate.

Sounding increasingly like I might have made the right choice!

I bought brand new TE gear in 1986. It was gigged hard and regularly until 2006. Never had a single issue with the amp (AH250) or either of the cabs. They are bloody heavy, but virtually indestructible!!!

Well, after a lot of thought I've pretty much decided to go with the Hartke - especially as an even better deal has come to my attention and I can get one used for under £200! The GB was offered as a swap for my Ampeg, or I could have asked for the cash which I was then going to spend on a brand new LH500. I took the latter option, but now that the second-hand LH500 has appeared on the horizon - I can get the best of both worlds! Thanks for the opinions though guys. As I half expected, people are divided between the two amps! That speaks very loudly on behalf of the Hartke, as it retails at over twice the price of the GB!! Will let you all know how I get on when all the deals are completed!!
I'm OK with that if eveyone else is. If it helps, if I get the cab before next weekend I've got 2 gigs over that weekend so will only keep hold of it for a week before passing it to Deek.
Has the cab made it up to the Kingdom of Fife yet? I'll be up there later this week so that it can continue its journey to the Toon if everyone is OK with that?

Well, the prog band mutated into a straight-ahead heavy rock band! But at least things are moving now, so I am no longer "available"! Thanks for all the enquiries, and good luck to the various bands that showed an interest.
I don't need a lot of top end to hear what note I'm playing or the naunces of my playing.
Ooooh! Get you with ya fancy "nuances"!!

Am I allowed to go for "thick and zingy"?! Round-wound strings, plenty of mid-boost, very hard and aggressive finger-style.... Sounds like a right mess, doesn't it?!
-
Good calls about the weight, but as I will be carting around two 4x10s, I'm not sure the difference will make itself all that apparent! Also, the terms "clean, hi-fi and precise" have never been used to describe my tone or playing!
If you are considering one of these-STOP-get one.
So why you selling yours then?
Hello. I play a Fender active jazz, currently hoping to get a Hartke LH500
Hello!! I like your choice in gear my friend!

OK, maybe not a completely fair comparison, but if you could either of these amps for the same money, which one would you have? Power-wise there is not much in it. Into 4 ohms, its 500w for the Hartke versus 600w for the GB. Both have valve pre-amps. Both are known for their "clear, biting tone". Their new prices vary more. The Hartke is widely available at £299 inc. delivery, whereas the GB is closer to £600. Not even close - but is the GB worth twice the price? Well, that's not relevant in this case as you can have either amp for the same money remember?! The GB appears to have more EQ-shaping capabilities as it has a four-band rather than three, and the mid-range is parametric... The GB has a D-class power amp whereas the Hartke is class A. Does that make much difference? If I get the GB and don't get on with it, I could sell it for what I got it for (or near enough). The second-hand value of the Hartke would presumably drop to around £200. For me, the major down-side to the GB is that it will look slighly ridiculous perched on top of two 4x10 cabs!! Decisions, decisions! Advice please?
If required, we can also supply Hartke. We're happy, where we can, to offer special prices to the Basschat community.
It's required I think! You have PM!
Myself and a few mates have had a couple of prog rock evenings. Bring your favourite albums, favourite beer, sit down and listen and tell some good yarns. Bliss. Fantastic.
That sure sounds like great way to spend an evening!

Saw Pendragon in Newcastle last night. Terrible venue, mediocre sound - but the band were brilliant! definitely well worth seeing if you get the chance!! Peter Gee is a very tasteful, talented and under-rated bass player.
