Sorry Conan, I'm a bit thick at this being 61, what does PM mean?
My apologies! It means that I have sent you a private message. Look at the top right hand corner of your screen and click on the text that says "1 new message"!
A few of those and a pocketful of wood screws and the top cab'll never shift again. Disclaimer: portability may be compromised.
Anyone else noticed this? When I stack my two 4x10 cabs, the corner protectors don't grab onto each other very well at all. The result being that if someone blunders into my stack, the top cab gets badly mis-aligned! My old TE cabs had a "foot-and-socket" arrangement which held them together far more effectively. Is there anything I can retro-fit to improve the stability of the stack? Advice welcome...
Budget wise I don't think I'd buy a head for more than £300ish,
You can get a brand spanking new Hartke LH500 for less than £300 - including delivery!! That's the one eyed get... as I said last week just before a passing cyclops took offence!
Have free bump on me for one of the truly great 'lost' Ampeg heads! I used to have one of these heads back in the early 90s (until some git nicked it out of the van in Brixton) and coupled with the Ampeg 8x10 cab it truly was a tone and volume monster!! Mine used to easily compete with guitarists running through full-size Marshall 100 watt stacks.
Cheers man! Your wise words are making me love the beast even more! GASing for a Hartke LH500/1000 though...

Late 80s Ampeg SVT-200T head with serial FX loop, 6 band EQ (with push-pull frequency switching), Bi-Amp function and DI out. Front panel is very clean and uncluttered, and easy to use. This amp was (I believe) only made for a short period of time before morphing into the SVT350. Power output is 200W @ 8 Ohm, 350W @ 4 Ohm. This seems conservative, as this unit is very loud through two Ashdown 4x10 cabs! Lots of clean, clear and warm volume and loads of tone-shaping capabilities. It was serviced last week - no major repairs, but a few dry joints re-soldered, input jack adjusted and tightened, and all pots cleaned and ready to go! It is rather heavy. I haven't weighed it accurately, but would estimate it to be around 25kg. I will weigh it properly to calculate shipping costs if required. It has a rather tatty soft cover, which keeps the dust off but not much more! I've had a couple of offers via PM around the £300 mark, so if you really want this amp you may have to exceed that! Still, an awful lot of amp for a very reasonable price! I am happy to arrange shipping, but at the buyer's expense. Quotes so far range from around a tenner (within the UK), £23 Eire. Havent looked for prices to Europe or further afield, but I will if anyone is interested. Any questions, just ask!

I've always thought of a bass player's role as being similar to that of a referee/umpire in rugby/football/cricket/tennis, etc. If we do our job well, nobody notices - but if we have a mare, the whole thing collapses around us! I don't think many singers, guitarists or keyboard players really understand the role of bass in music. If they like what you play then they say nowt - but if they DON'T like it, they feel they have a right to criticise our tone, playing, timing... But how many bassists criticise other musicians' playing? It's a thankless task, but a very rewarding one. Oh, and WE make the girls dance!! :brow:
Just sold my 1978 Precision fretless (maple) that i've owned from new with the original invoice and immaculate condition for £1000. Good luck, but I think your price is a bit optimistic. Davo
Wouldn't that comment have been better posted as a PM?!

I'm not a huge fan of their music - but its a very sad loss. 38 years old!! Jesus...
...John Deacon anyway, he zooms around all over the place on some Queen tracks but no-one except other bass players notice!
Yeah. Millionaire's Waltz for example. Lovely line, but most listeners just assume its being played on piano or guitar!
Well, it's a forum known and loved by many North-Eastern BC'ers.
The thread is now locked! -
This is my second purchase from Tom (Black Geddy Lee) and as before, a great guy to deal with.
Not sure I'd describe him as the "Black Geddy Lee"... but he sure is a great guy to deal with! We met up half way for me to pick up the Jazz copy and take our womenfolk shopping. Well, it was Sunday after all... Highly recommended.
Over the weekend Ive had my old drummer up visiting and we played for free all over the UK...
Sounds like a busy weekend!! Don't let this recent turn of events put you off covers bands in the North East. There are some great bands made up of great guys who are also (at least many of them) great musicians. Just do a bit more research first and ask more questions at the outset! -
They haven't "caught on" mainly because of the conservative nature of the majority of bassists & guitarists - if Leo bloody Fender had started using them everybody would think they were f***ing awesome.
Totally agree!!

I still haven't found what I'm looking for....

The more I read about this Gareth, the more I think that it just comes down to incompatability. You weren't right for them, and they weren't right for you. If I was you, I would leave all this slagging behind you and put this down to experience. Dwelling on the negatives will just make you bitter. At least you will know which questions to ask your next prospective band! -
I've never been in a band that didn't want to practise twice a week. This is originals though. I guess with a cover band you wouldn't want to get bored.
That's exactly the point. With original material you have to be together to write the songs and then play them until they work. The band all have to be in the same room at the same time. With covers, you listen to the tracks then learn them. That can be done at home, at work, wherever! The rehearsal is then just that - not a session to learn the songs, but just to get them up to gigging speed. IME of course! YEMV....
