I'm expecting that this whole hoopla will have died down by the time that my account gets approved anyway.
Yeah. I'm another one on that waiting list. I need to get more of a life! -

I see you wasted no time in editing your signature!! Edited because I can't spell "edited". Still not sure it's right... one t or two?! Edited again because I meant "editing" not "edited". Think I'll just give up now! -

Is this for real?!? -
Great stuff! Very informative. Wishing I hadn't got rid of my 1986 AH250, 1048 and 1518 now! But then I think of the weight...
-
A bass that has good sustain usually has good tone as well. It is often the sign of a well-designed and well-made bass IMO! I wouldn't say its a "bench-mark" though. If you play predominantly staccato style, the sustain is superfluous anyway...
You would benifit from a jazz type bass as IMO the usual jazz bass growl and treble fills a lot more space in a mix than any P bass would.
That's an unusual opinion! Most people seem to think the opposite!

I can't see how the height of the action can possibly affect the string tension? Maybe the perception of tension.... Hmmmm, that sounds like a good album title!
All this growling and burping is very confusing !! I just like a bass to sound like a bass !!
Of course! But then how would you compare the sounds of different basses? You have to admit that a P sounds different to a J, and to a Rickenbacker, and a Jaydee, a Status.... etc. If it weren't for subjective words like "Growl" how would we compare tones?
I can't agree with the OP on this one..... If I was in a band but baulked at having to actually play together too often, then I would have to seriously question if I had chosen the correct hobby.
Horses for courses. I play as a hobby too, but not everyone on this forum is a musician purely for pleasure. Some are true professionals and most seem to balance the two - i.e. they play because they enjoy it, have a "day-job", but still expect to be treated with respect and earn some financial recompense. If, for example, I give up an evening with my family to travel to a venue, set up my gear, play my heart out for two hours and not get home till well after midnight - should I not expect the venue to pay me for my time and effort? If we have brought maybe fifty or more people (who would not otherwise have been there) into the venue to drink expensive beverages and contribute to the wealth of the venue owner/landlord/etc. OK, in some cases I would gig for free - but I would hate to think that all bands would be expected to!! Its been discussed at great length on other threads whether bands should expect to be paid to play - and its a complex question with many complex answers... Gareth has explained his situation in detail and why it is irritating him. I think (as do many others on here) that he has a fair point. You are free to disagree of course! But the way you phrase it - he is wrong. Now that I do disagree with!! -
There really is no "best". But with a grand in your pocket, you could certainly have some fun trying out as many basses that fit into your budget as possible!

Interesting video! What's that all about?!

Fat strings & Skinny strings & G strings........

Interesting subject matter, but that is one of the dullest videos I have ever seen! -
Must it be brand new? In that price bracket you could get some serious choice in the second-hand market...
maybe one or two people in bands might think it is more their baby and therefore are a bit more dictorial as they are founder members...
Yeah. And if that member/those members appear to suffer from some form of OCD - big problems!! Also, in practice (or at least in my experience) few band members DO have the maturity and/or altruistic attitude to be able to deal with (even constructive) criticism without chucking their toys out of the pram. But maybe I've just been unlucky!? -
My problem is, I feel like im waiting for the singer to get upto scratch.
Well, it IS important that the singer is pretty spot on, but if after six months or so he still needs practice that would be ringing warning bells to me! Regardless of the opinions of others on here, it is clear that the situation is bothering YOU - so you must air your grievances. If you just get pissed off and leave, everyone will have lost. Cruel to be kind, and all that... -
Playing behind would be hitting it at 2 o'clock.
Yup. That would be me. About two hours behind the beat!
...everyone makes a point of doing their homework and turning up to rehearsal knowing all of the songs. It's the fairest way.
It's the ONLY way IMO!! You shouldn't be paying £10-15 per hour for lazy b@st@rds to learn songs that they've had a fortnight on!! -
What do people class as a normal rehearsal schedule?
I guess that "normal" is what the band need! Any more than that is overkill and can ruin the "fun" aspect and turn it into a job. Spontaneity will also tend to suffer and you may end up just going through the motions. Of course, the problem comes in deciding what "the band" need! Is there a weak link? Is there someone who just likes rehearsing/practicing? I agree with earlier posters that the two are NOT the same thing. Rehearsal is all about preparation (for recording, gigs, etc) whereas practicing is more about just playing together - either to improve skills or simply for the enjoyment of it. Sounds to me like you are no longer enjoying the experience.(I'm very perceptive like that!). Maybe you need to chat to the guys and ask why such a rehearsal schedule is felt necessary. You may have nailed the material, but maybe they are waiting for you to somehow "mutate" into their previous bass player?! Could be many reasons. Maybe they've just always done it that way? But if you don't address it, you could end up sick of the band before you even play a gig with them! -
OK. So I'm guessing that its not worth putting it up for sale on here then?
I played my Little Mark II and Ampeg B115E cabinet at my gig last Saturday...
It's actually an SVT Seb, not a B series! Maybe you should have read your own signature! Pleased you're enjoying it - I'm also loving the Ashdown!

Hi all. As the title implies, I have a Yamaha EMP100 multi-effects processor. I have had it from new, which was about 20 years or so ago. I've fiddled about with it on numerous occasions but I just don't really use effects so I am planning to sell it on (if it is worth anything). A google search has not been very revealing, with a few for sale at prices ranging from £15 to £300!! They seem to be pretty well regarded, but there are not many around now so I have no idea of its second-hand value. It is in good condition, but I no longer have the original box. The instruction booklet is around somewhere though... Can anyone give me any advice on what this device might be worth and is anyone interested in it? I understand they are very effective when used with accordions... http://www.scotlanda...%20EMP-100.html Thanks in advance!
