Great stuff! Very informative. Wishing I hadn't got rid of my 1986 AH250, 1048 and 1518 now! But then I think of the weight...

A bass that has good sustain usually has good tone as well. It is often the sign of a well-designed and well-made bass IMO! I wouldn't say its a "bench-mark" though. If you play predominantly staccato style, the sustain is superfluous anyway...

I play as a hobby too, but not everyone on this forum is a musician purely for pleasure. Some are true professionals and most seem to balance the two - i.e. they play because they enjoy it, have a "day-job", but still expect to be treated with respect and earn some financial recompense. If, for example, I give up an evening with my family to travel to a venue, set up my gear, play my heart out for two hours and not get home till well after midnight - should I not expect the venue to pay me for my time and effort? If we have brought maybe fifty or more people (who would not otherwise have been there) into the venue to drink expensive beverages and contribute to the wealth of the venue owner/landlord/etc. OK, in some cases I would gig for free - but I would hate to think that all bands would be [b]expected[/b][i][/i] to!! Its been discussed at great length on other threads whether bands should expect to be paid to play - and its a complex question with many complex answers... Gareth has explained [b]his[/b][i][/i] situation in detail and why it is irritating him. I think (as do many others on here) that he has a fair point. You are free to disagree of course! But the way you phrase it - he is [b]wrong[/b][i][/i]. Now that I [b]do[/b][b][/b] disagree with!!

There really is no "best". But with a grand in your pocket, you could certainly have some fun trying out as many basses that fit into your budget as possible!

You may have nailed the material, but maybe they are waiting for you to somehow "mutate" into their previous bass player?! Could be many reasons. Maybe they've just always done it that way? But if you don't address it, you could end up sick of the band before you even play a gig with them!

Hi all. As the title implies, I have a Yamaha EMP100 multi-effects processor. I have had it from new, which was about 20 years or so ago. I've fiddled about with it on numerous occasions but I just don't really use effects so I am planning to sell it on (if it is worth anything). A google search has not been very revealing, with a few for sale at prices ranging from £15 to £300!! They seem to be pretty well regarded, but there are not many around now so I have no idea of its second-hand value. It is in good condition, but I no longer have the original box. The instruction booklet is around somewhere though... Can anyone give me any advice on what this device might be worth and is anyone interested in it? I understand they are very effective when used with accordions...
