1. This sounds like a hell of a deal.... but what might it cost to replace the tweeter on a Goliath? Does it look like a mark I? If so, isn't it rated at more than 400W? Thoughts and opinions please people! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...sid=p2759.l1259
2.
Sing it back - Moloko. Harder then I first thought.
Yeah! I had to learn that one for an audition a few years ago. Great groove and cool bass part, but as you say - harder than it sounds!!
3. Porcupine Tree - Halo. Great track with an interesting, funky bass part. Rainbow - Stargazer. Epic track! Bass part more complex and intricate than I imagined! Blue Oyster Cult - Good to feel hungry. Good track with a good bass part. It Bites - Once around the world. Difficult, complex and VERY long! Dream Theater - Pull me under. Jesus. Unnecessarily complex and very hard to pick out the bass part. What's the point of a bass line that just follows exactly what the guitar plays?? Get an octaver ffs!!
4. Cheers mate! If the Jackson doesn't make it's reserve price on ebay I will leave it listed on here. I know its a buyer's market at the moment, but I'm almost giving this guitar away!! Back-up bass anyone? Gift for a teenager wanting to graduate to five strings? Customisation project? Or just a good, honest mid-range instrument to add to your collection?! Christ, I'd never make a salesman would I?!
5. Sorry. I know this is about my third suggestion.... and I dunno how to embed video either... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxg1AoEz9p4 Bass solo kicks off at around 2:36 - but its insane all throught the track! And the award for the longest fingers in music goes to......!
6.
Mr Danny Thompson. Solo at 3:18
Thanks for posting that. Beautiful track. Brought a tear to me eye that did... nearly a year since the big man died Lovely bass playing too!!
7. Ebay auction closes on sunday morning... some bids, but the reserve is only £150! Have a look. Have a bid! You could get it for quite a bit less than I'm asking on here!!
8. I used to really want one of those about 25 years ago.... Cool! Good luck! BTW, you need to have a price listed!
9. Great cab - but just far too heavy for me now!! However, if the price came down or shipping was cheap.... Hmmm, I might be tempted!!
10.
Steve Harris, on "Number Of The Beast". Fantastic playing
There's a bass solo in that track?!
11.
I bet Bill and Alex must be heartily sick of saying the size of a driver tells you how big it is; the "traditional" stack is a triumph of marketing over acoustics etc etc.
In the same way that "dietary experts" must be heartily sick of telling people to drink less alcohol, exercise more and eat better. But do the majority heed their advice?! Bass players choose gear for a variety of reasons. It may be the set-up/brand used by their hero, a brilliant deal may fall into their lap, they may act on recommendations (whether they are good or bad!) and they may even believe the marketting hype! At then end of the day, if they are satisfied with their sound and like their gear, I really don't see it as a big problem. I feel that there is a certain amount of OCD underpinning the opinions of some users, and possibly an amount of evangelism from some recent converts!! It all makes interesting reading, but for some of us who operate in the "real world" of maybe a few gigs a month, average sized cars, finicky band-mates and limited finances - certain gear choices will always remain aspirational... Which is no bad thing! Sometimes fantasies are better left as fantasies. But that's a whole different story!!
12. The more I read these threads, the more I think "I've been doing it wrong all these years"! On the other hand, apart from comments like "turn that bloody bass down!", I've rarely had negative feedback on my sound. I think its true that most people's ears just aren't all that able to separate sounds, frequencies, etc - especially in the typical gig scenario (i.e. when alcohol consumption and sheer volume make their own demands on the aural sense!). My old Trace 4x10 and 1x15 combination always sounded OK to me - but then I never A/B'ed it against anything else. Of the options above I would select 2x10 + 1x15. Mainly for height I think - as others have mentioned about rectally-positioned hearing organs!! But then, I can't even decide which is the way forward on my own set-up! It;s easy to advise others!
13.
The RH does everything I need. If you really dig Rocco, the Staccato would be cool.
At twice the price!? You would have to REALLY dig Rocco to justify that!!
14.
buy the cab that sounds the way you want it to when set flat (assuming the bass is not the issue of course). Mark
Presumably, you mean "when the amp is set flat"? Which assumes, of course, that the amp that you own gives the sound you want! I guess that investing in a high quality cab is quite likely to highlight any inadequacies in your amp and/or guitar? The old "any chain is only as strong as it's weakest link" analogy?
15.
What's model's the Status?
That's exactly what I was about to ask! And how old is it?
16. Interestingly, the guys who own and play Berg recommend Berg. Those who own and play Schoeder, recommend Schroeder! Which came first? Do you buy a certain manufacturer's gear because you like it, or do you like it because you own it and get used to its sound? Is such a comparison ever entirely objective I wonder? Then again - ignore me because I own neither!!! I speak purely as an interested by-stander (aka nosey git!!).
17. Well, Charla's been and gone (nice guy by the way!) but the bass is still available! He's even taken the time to set it up with a nice low action so it plays better than before. It's now even MORE of a bargain! So come on people, make me an offer!!
18.
I reckon if it wasn't fretless it would sell quite easily. In fact, might be worth getting it fretted? I think £375 is fair for a bass of this quality and pedigree, chum.
Cheers for that! I was thinking of going down the re-fret route actually - any idea how much I would expect to pay for that job? Would it need a whole new fretboard or could new frets be slotted into the existing holes (once the filler is removed of course!). Opinions welcome!!
19. Just thought of another one....! Byron Miller on a George Duke track. I forget the name at the moment, but its on the album with "Omi (fresh water)" on it. Will look it up in a moment... Tha fonk! OK - it's the track "Reach for it" from the album of the same name.
20.
Jaco's "Havona"....
Although I generally don't like bass solos, yes - this would be the one for me too!
21. I recently bought a five string fretted Curbow and I'm really pleased with it. Yet to gig it, but at home it sounds good and is nice to play. It only cost £322 brand new, with free delivery from Germany!!
22. I'm impressed! Not just a pedant, but a thorough one!! And another bump for a couple of great basses. If I sell mine I may well be interested in both!
23.
PM'd
Replied!!
24. That's essentially the active version of the one I'm selling. Great basses!
