It's a jam on a line from a song called 'The Lambretta Twins' by The Caffreys, one of my bands.
Oh right. It must just remind me of something else then... Cheers!

Please put me out of my misery - what track is that you're playing?
possibly remove g string altogether ....
Good call. They do tend to "ride up" somewhat and make it hard to concentrate on playing your bass. They ain't called "@n@l floss" for nothing!

Mick Karn! Jeez, I'd forgotten all about him. Lovely "bumbling" kinda style he has... Right, I'm off to dig out my old Japan records!!

Easy! "Why can't we be together" by Sade from her Diamond Life album!! Great solid bass groove IMO. I bought the album and learned every note... played till my fingertips blistered and then bled... EDIT due to complete lies written above... It was actually Rush's "Freewill" from the Permanent Waves album! Nowt like starting with an easy tune! No idea why I thought it was the Sade one first, but that album (and Sade herself!) certainly left an impression!

Yes. Very nice indeed! I love that rocky style of slap (no Stallone gags please!). Very Flea-esque. Immaculate timing and a great sense of tone too! Well done my friend!

Although if you are hitting the 12th fret, you are definitely making life hard for yourself!!
-
If you are thumbing it onto one of the frets with a strong harmonic (e.g. 24, 21, 12 etc) it is far more likely you will get this effect. As others have said, try to hit the edge of the fretboard...

Its nearly a year since John Martyn died, and I was really upset by that. Not least due to annoyance at myself! He had just played in Newcastle in the November and I didn't bother going as I thought the ticket prices were a bit steep. Now I'll never get the chance to see him... I still remember the day in 1991 when I heard that Freddie Mercury had died. Empty, hollow, numb.... I never knew him or even met him, but Queen's music had been a massive part of my life for over 10 years by then. Just so sad knowing that there would be no further Queen music recorded. For me, "Queen" without Freddie is just not the real deal. I don't recall being very affected by the death of many other musicians... EDIT: Except Phil Lynott!!

For the price of the Status neck he could have bought a decent bass. Hondo gear used to be sold through the Kays catalogue when I was a kid.... I think they also sold bras as well. Someone told me that. I never looked.
to willfully take a chainsaw to a £500 speaker cabinet that a lot of players would sell their grannies for almost staggers the imagination!
As there were no speakers in it, I think its value would be limited - and it may have been flawed anyway... Without getting all Health 'n' Safety obsessive about it though - using a chainsaw without eye, hand and toe protection is fecking stupid!! Anyway, does that mean that the amp puts out 1500w or electrical power?!? That's pretty awesome!
Would you be able to post or is it collection only?
I could certainly post it - at your expense of course!! If you're interested, PM me with your details and we can discuss it. I'll package it up and give you mass and dimensions so you can get an accurate quote... I already have suitable cardboard boxing to wrap it securely. Your call.

I would guess that he used a pick on that track, and quite a lot of other stuff. He does play with fingers as well though... His current sound with the Vigier basses is lovely!
To this day, whenever..thankfully not very often...I see a Status and TE rig, well, it doesn't augur well... IMHO
Just as well you never saw me gigging!! Got rid of the TE a few years ago due to its size and mass, and we were moving house... etc. I liked the sound, and I think it suited the Status. It's not for everyone though (as the responses in this thread show!). I always find it difficult to describe sound in words, but I thought it was clean, clear, powerful, rich and "hi-fi" (whatever that means!). Plenty of top and bottom, but a bit lacking in the mid-range without applying "wacky" graphic settings (mine was the GP11). But maybe this was more down to the Status than the amp as I never tried any other rig with the Status. Volume was never a problem as I was running it through the typical 1048 and 1518 combination, giving out the full 250 watts (it was the AH250 head). It was the only amp set-up I used for 20 years, so I now find it quite hard to make a decision about what I want next!!
