1.
I have found a lot of these strings are not in tune when you buy them though.
Shoddy workmanship and the "it's all about me" attitude, which is all too prevalent these days sadly. I blame Brexit and Donald Trump. And immigrants of course.
 2.
Whether you can hear a tuning discrepancy or not, checking tuning at regular intervals, when appropriate, is entirely acceptable and professional... providing it's discreet and doesn't interfere with the show.
Exactly my view. I'd rather not wait until I (or someone else) can hear something wrong...
 3.
Wow not heard that song before. Nice one. Dave
It is, isn't it?
 4.
On an average gig down the dog and duck, I personally do a tuning check after each number. I have a tuner on the floor which is on permanently. A quick step on the mute of another pedal and its all over in 3-5 secs max. If a tune starts with, for example, a long keys intro I will take a bit more time but my aim is to stay in tune as much as possible. New strings or old strings, i treat the tuning the same and constantly check it.
Me too Depends on the bass though. My J basses can be a bit unstable, but I had a Status series II for years, and I only had to tune it about once a year!!
 5. Scott Gorham played bass on this lovely track... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKrYDJ20vfg
 6. I love Mallaig...
 7.
Overall 440 I preferred.
9. Is this with all settings, or just when both pickups are on full? http://www.talkbass.com/threads/jazz-bass-scooping-mids-and-lows-at-full-volume-why.894722/
 10. Why do I always find out about cool things after they've happened? Not that I would have been able to get there on a school night mind... I hope there will be more, and in other parts of the UK
 11. Odd. I think it depends on which one is played first. If the 432 comes first, and my ear gets "tuned in" to that, then the 440 sounds slightly rushed and insistent. Possibly slightly weedy too... If the 440 starts, then the 432 sounds kind of melancholy, but also a bit more full. It is difficult to describe in words. But I have a tape deck that causes similar effects...
 12. Phoooaaarr! All Fender-type basses should have matching headstocks IMO... Lovely.
 13.
Somebody mentioned getting a "loom" from kiogon, Is he a member here? and, if so, How would I get in touch with him?
http://basschat.co.uk/user/7835-kiogon/

 15. I never understood why these classy instruments were such a niche market. Well, apart from the ugly headstocks, that is...
 16.
I must say, I do really like the look of the J&D Jazz, in surf green, with maple & blocks - looks amazing
That's what mine is - and I had the headstock sprayed to match. Looks great and often gets admiring comments! As far as I am aware, the original decal was under lacquer - but after painting I applied a "Fecker Jizz Bass" Fender-alike one. I know, it's not big, clever, or even particularly amusing - but it appeals to my infantile mind!
 17. Nice little combos these. I've even played small gigs with mine
 18.

Looking at the bass from this position, I like mine to be pointing at about the 4 o'clock position when full on. Or south-east if you prefer compass notation
 19.
I love the not difficult statements. Since when has difficulty had much to do with creativity and musicianship? Most semi decent guitarists now would say what Hendrix played was "Not difficult". Its not the point, Hendrix played it over 40 years ago when it was a revelation. The same with Chris. Its the note choice, placement and timing, and that tone that make it very special.
A very good point
 20.
Thanks bud. I will try him on FaceBook.
Or if you want his mobile number, give me a shout
 21. I know Howard reasonably well and see him now and then. Whenever one of these threads comes up some people drag up old stuff from a couple of years ago when Howard was having a bad time. Without taking sides (and I am aware that some people have reasons to feel miffed) I am fed up with getting drawn into those discussions. If anyone is genuinely interested in contacting him, I always pass on his contact details, and I am happy to act as a go-between if people want to post stuff to him and get it back again - but my offers of assistance have maybe been misconstrued. I am not responsible for Howard's behaviour!
 22. Can we lock this one now then?
 23. I'm staying out of it this time...
 24. Lines. Raised, metal ones.
 25. Rush. Can you believe the workshy drummer wanted to quit after only 43 years?!?!
