2. I don't think you can go far wrong with these - https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_valuestrings_bassguitar_medium.htm Ridiculously cheap and pretty decent IMO
 3. So this will make me sound like Geddy Lee, right?
 4.
The quote was quite a bit more than I thought Maybe I don't need nitro?
Nothing to stop you getting quotes from other people, even if they are outside your geographical range. Just for price comparison purposes.
 5. There are 10 kinds of people. Those who understand binary and those who don't.
 6.
When i read the thread title, i thought someone had rung her bell, permanently
Wasn't that Anita Ward?
 7. Loved her first couple of albums, bought thought she became a bit anodyne after that. Must admit though, I stopped listening to her in about 1990 - so her more recent stuff may well be great! Think I'll go and do a bit of catching up... That video is bloody awesome. Mystery is still one of my all-time favourite soul tracks - lovely bass line too
 8. Very nice (the sound and the playing)! I have Toneriders in my J&D jazz bass. Pretty good pickups for the price.
Is there any song or video I could hear or watch that would give me a good idea of what makes them special? I'm a bit concerned about the lack of a mid control on the tone pump, since I'm very fond of toasty, nutty mids. 10.
Where from? I haven't seen any in stock for a long time. Squire seem to have replaced them with those 70's ones with the black-block markers which I don't think look as good.
A used one from here is probably the best bet. I might even be tempted to part with mine as I am not currently gigging...
 11. KiOgon - a member on here. Send him a PM. His work is outstanding and many BC members have used his services
 12. After trying a few, I settled on my Squier Matt Freeman sig. Not because I like Mr Freeman himself (in fact I'd never heard of him!) but because it just screams quality. And you could get three for the price of a used US P!
 13.
It's definitely a case whatever you think does the job best for what you are doing at the time. The ideal is to be able to do both.
So much this ^
 14. I tried it with a couple of Bergantino 210s. Easier than a 410, yes - but in the end I got tired of carrying around two cabs and went back to a lighter option. The vertical stacking option is great though, as long as the stage is solid and sturdy
 15. This forum is often like a written version of that!
 16.
I also find the 2x12 much louder than the Barefaced Compact I had for a while.
Interesting. I tried a few different 2x10s and 2x12s, and when I came back to the Compact I found it louder (and, for me, better) than any of them! Horses for courses I guess
 17.
by and large, people are dicks.
18.
Negatives - Musicians have no more integrity than anybody else, no matter how good they are or what kind of bloody music degree they have... I knew this anyway but I've had it confirmed in spades this year. Still, onward and upwards...
Ouch. That sounds painful...
 19.
The guitar shops that I know in Newcastle (Guitar Guitar, PMT, Windows) all have a pretty meagre selection of basses. Is there anywhere else in the North East that has more, or will I need to go further afield? I'm not looking for anything in particular, so the wider the selection the better.
Get yasell to the next NE Bass Bash! Or maybe organise one...
 20.
It's weird how over the years I've often heard the "it's all in the fingers" thing - but when I ask someone to produce a Musician sound on a P bass, they never do...
A P bass will never sound like a musician...
