I first heard this last night via the No Treble website. Stunning as ever. My first thought was that it reminded me of Teen Town. It was only this morning that I realised 'Dean Town' could be a play on words, something that is probably blindingly obvious to everyone else. I need some vitamins.
Don't worry, I didn't make the association either! I wondered if it might be about the Dean village in Edinburgh...

He's a proper bass player. IMO of course Lovely J tone. they always sounds better (to my ears) when played hard...

A carrot as a murder weapon? Would that be the root of the problem?

I have no style.

Anybody know a good keyboard player in Herts??

Sorry, I thought you said "Heart"... -
My mother plinks a bit on piano. My dad used to own an ocarina and a tin whistle, but couldn't really play them. They were supportive of my musical endeavours though, despite not liking the types of music I played or listened to. I never had any lessons at school, but some piano lessons privately (which I hated!). I am completely self-taught. Interestingly, although I have never pushed my own kids into lessons or musical activity of any kind, all three of them play instruments and love music. My son is far more talented than I am and can play a number of instruments as well as being good at the engineering/production side of things. None of the above categories really fit my situation, so I haven't voted.
Yes it could be posted, maybe even delivered as I'll be travelling past your neck of the woods before Christmas. It plays as good as it looks too
You tease!! Short of cash at the moment, but if it's till here in a few weeks you will be hearing from me!
Don't tell the class D naysayers as he appears to have a great sound with a Genz head, what a fool, if only he knew about all the heft he was missing out on!

what does he know? didn't you notice he was using a Barefaced cab? Clearly no idea...
Naah... those two are for show only. There is a big SVT behind the curtain, plugged into that big heavy 4x10 -
Good Enough for henry henry thomas
First time I've seen/heard "King Thumb" actually playing with a band! Quite a tasty player! As is this guy - Jodie Bremaneson of Skerryvore. With a lovely blue G&L... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KexIrXcxVHE -
J&D brothers 1975 J bass. £119 brand new! Although I have gigged it from the day it arrived, it is no longer totally stock as one of the pickups packed in and it now features Toneriders. A few small mods and the whole shebang cost less than £220. It is my main and favourite bass, in fact I sold a Mayones Jabba and a CIJ Geddy Lee as I play this one all the time!
The 8 ohm cab will get something like half the power and the 12 ohm cab will see less than that, maybe about 1/3rd,
Surely that's a third and two thirds? Otherwise, what happens to the other sixth?
A friend of mine has a 1 x12 & 2 x10 Tc rig & it's the best live sound I've heard , but there's me only wanting to buy UK made stuff .
I think they're both 8 ohm cabs aren't they?
-
I would estimate that you'd get around 300W running that amp at 12 ohms (but these things tend not to be linear relationships, so maybe check with the manufacturer). The two BF cabs will definitely "work" together, but how well and how efficiently they work is questionable. The 8 ohm Super Compact will get more power because it has a lower impedance. But it also only has one 12" speaker. The 210 will get less power, and it will be shared between the two speakers - so each ten inch speaker will be barely ticking over while the twelve might be getting pushed quite hard... I'm sure they'll be up to it, but you might get some "interesting" sounds... Give it a try! I'm sure Alex will be along soon to advise you more knowledgably...
Looking at the Elwood Europe, 1600 euros is a big chunk more...... G.
I know... probably still pretty reasonable for what it is mind. But there are a few coming up second hand (although I've not seen a fretless yet).

Do you think the thickness of a bass neck affects tone? How?
Conan replied to Dood's topic in General Discussion
Can we have an "I don't care" option instead?
Yet you have posted TWICE in the thread! That's a new level of apathy... -
Look out for any used Maruszczyk instruments coming up. However, I've not seen many fretless ones... For a wee bit more, you could have one made to your specs. That's what I plan to do following my recent "significant" birthday (50th) and once funds become available... http://www.public-peace.de/index.php/maruszczyk-instruments/mi-bass
A thinner neck doesn't necessarily suggest you'd exfect/fear a thinner tone, any more than a thicker neck would create a thicker tone -
Isn't that what this thread is about? Some people clearly think that this is the case... -
I had the neck on my Sadowsky reshaped by Roger Sadowsky. He reckoned it would not affect the tone. No surprise that he was right
Depending on how much wood was removed (assuming he didn't add any...!), then i think this is the answer right here. All other potential variables kept constant, and no discernable change to the tone. A couple of years ago I swapped the necks over on an MIM standard Jazz and a CIJ Geddy Lee. No difference at all (to my ears). Besides, didn't Geddy's original 1972 Jazz have its neck "shaved down" to a slimmer profile? I don't recall him ever saying that this made the tone thinner in away way... I voted "I don't know" - as there seems to be enough anecdotal evidence that some people can hear a difference. Although how much of that is down to the power of suggestion, I wouldn't like to say -
Yeah, the BF Vintage is a great cab. I really enjoyed using it when I had a loan of one.
Yeah - that was mine!
-
Switching from a 1x15 to a 2x15 is bound to make a significant difference...
Well, yes - and the drop from 8 ohms to 4... but I did used to have a Barefaced Vintage remember, so I am used to what a 2x15 is capable of! So maybe the big difference I noticed is (at least partly) down to Neo vs ceramic. And cab design... It wasn't just "more" output, but a very different sound all round. I preferred it, but maybe not everyone would have?

I experienced a real eye-opener last week when I changed cabs from my Barefaced Compact (Gen 2) to this. The amp (Markbass LM2) was left exactly the same, except for having to turn the master volume down significantly! The difference in sound was quite remarkable. Not "louder" exactly, but just so much more tone, presence and authority - much greater harmonic richness. If I was ten years younger and gigged more often, I would have bought it, but at my stage in life I am happy with the compromises that my lightweight rig offers. On the other hand, I used a TH500 through a Barefaced Big One a while back, and I just couldn't get them to play nicely together at all! See here for a bit of ancient history... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/257641-aguilar-th500-distortion-issues/page__hl__th500 This just demonstrates the difference that the cabs can make
I'd suggest something with 10" speakers would probably fit the bill.
Why? Do you think that tens are somehow inherently better than fifteens (or even twelves)? If so I'd be interested to hear the reasoning behind that...
