Fender Rumbles seem to be getting good reviews at the moment... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/283939-fender-rumble-500/
  2.
That can be very true of course, however if you rate gear at rehearsals but consistently don't get on with it at gigs then you have a problem. I suppose it depends on the rehearsal-to-gig ratio... I understand that some people like to rehearse but not do gigs, so obviously that would have a bearing on equipment choice.
Exactly. So there are as many solutions as there are bass players! I personally only play in one band and have done for the past six years or so. We rehearse in a way that is as similar as we can get to a gig environment, so if a piece of equipment works in a rehearsal scenario, then it will probably be fine at a gig (bearing in mind the usual variables of dodgy stages, odd acoustics and so on...). The gear that works well in this band might not be ideal for a different band though. Not that I have any plans to leave anytime soon!
  3.
On the other point, I think it's a myth that you have to gig with a piece of gear to judge it properly. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that, at least for me, a gig isn't a great place to test gear because you're very limited in what you can actually do to test the gear when you have to perform at the same time. For me, checking out gear out at a practice is best, because you can play at a good volume, listen from different parts of the room, fiddle with your amp and try different options without getting on everyone's nerves.
Good point
  4.
If people were wading into a barefaced porn thread or a ncd thread with negative posts I'd say that's out of order but it isn't is it? The facts are that some people do not like BF cabs for various reasons, thats life.
Of course. I, for example, really detest single-cut basses. I have never played one, but I just hate the look of them. My loss probably. However, what I don't do is trawl through Basschat looking for threads that mention SCBs and spout forth about how much I dislike them ad nauseam.
  5. £439?!?!
  6. Sometimes it snows in April. It is April, and it is snowing. Creepy. My favourite track is probably the title track from the Diamonds and Pearls album - coincidentally called "Diamonds and Pearls"
  7.
Purple Rain - the only song that might be vaguely recognisable when reproduced down the Dog & Duck by the Weekend Warriors
Christ - what a depressing (but true) scenario...
  8.
and then don't come back here and moan as one or other party will be able to say told you so
Of course!
  9.
I think it's just a reaction to the -often real- attraction that some people seem to have for threads with the BF name on them just to criticise or make fun.
Yes - or people who think that it is their prerogative to post in order to restore some sort of "balance" to the argument. As if too much praise for a product cannot be allowed?! So they are actually sticking their oar in for our benefit! I like Barefaced cabs (or at least, the ones that I have tried and/or owned). I make no secret of that fact. However, I don't think they are perfect. The fact that the range keeps expanding and revising shows that even Alex Claber shares the view that perfection has not yet been achieved. Unlike some people on here though, he listens to feedback and responds to it. I was always dubious about Bergantino products. Probably because I don't like it when people shout from the rooftops that "such and such a product" is the best. Anyway, I bought a pair of HS210s and used them for a while. They were good. Very good even... but in the end I sold them because I found them too heavy and bulky for my needs. Also, although the tone was lovely, I found the dispersion average. I went back to a Barefaced Compact (and a TKS H115) because they are my favourite cabs as they (for me) offer the best compromises in volume, tone, size and mass. I love them both equally, but for different reasons. Other people will reach other conclusions for their own reasons. On the other hand, I owned a Barefaced Big One that, while in some ways being outstanding, caused problems due to its incompatibility with certain amps (including the one that I just happened to be using at the time!). Again, no manufacturer is perfect in every situation! I guess what I am saying is "horses for courses" and that variety is the spice of life. Or something like that...
  10. Oh FFS!! To the OP - Please just buy the cab. Any cab... just put us out of this state of misery!!!
  11.
Would I be right to conclude, therefore, that this mistake wouldn't harm my amps or cab, but running the 2ohm output into a 4ohm cab might have done?
I don't think amps have outputs with different impedances, do they? My understanding is that the output from the amp is in Volts, and that depending on the impedance presented by the speaker cab, that voltage creates a certain amount of movement in the speaker that we perceive as sound. More voltage = more sound. The socket on the back of the amp indicates the minimum (or even recommended) impedance of any cab connected to it... I believe all of the above to be true. That doesn't mean that it is, of course!
  12.
You see where I'm going with this...?
Er... no
  13.
Yeah I'm after loudness Thinking of a aguilar db212 but maybe the 4ohm is a better idea IF I can find one?
The main disadvantage of a 4 ohm cab is that if you find yourself requiring more volume (or even needing more height, so that your cab is more audible to you yourself), you can only add another cab if your amp can safely run down to 2 ohms. Not that many do. The Aggie may well be a good solution, but an 8 ohm version will not be noticeably quieter and still gives the option of adding a second cab if you need/want it. I'd go for the 8 ohm version
  14. As usual, a Barefaced-based thread degenerates into a hair-splitting exercise! Buy the bloody cab - what could possibly go wrong?
  15.
While all mail order companies are legally bound to offer 14-day returns, 30-day returns policies are not exactly uncommon. Gear for Music (who will even cover the cost of return carriage if you notify them within 7 days), Thomann, Maplin, Argos, etc. Bax even have a 60-day trial period.
Yes, but they are all large retailers with huge stocks of products from many manufacturers. It's not quite the same as a manufacturer offering a trial period. Not something I can see Aguilar, GK, Fender, Marshall et al providing,
  16. Missed it again... Damn!
  17.
You know of the Hare?

Yes, I know the G-meister!
We have entered the Twilight Zone.... WoT - do you not fancy running two of these cabs?
  18. Nice handles!
  19.
I used to use my original BF Compact at 8 ohms/ 300 watts from a Little Mark II and that was LOUD too.
This ^
Stop worrying about impedance. Because of the way we perceive sound the extra 200W only give you a barely noticeable increase in sound level. Choose on the basis of sound and practicality
And this ^
  20.
£550 including delivery, for now. Or £285 each.
It's a tough market at the moment... Great price! I'd have these if I wasn't already happy with my two cabs
  21.
My Dad has a Fender Stevie Ray Vaughan Artist Stratocaster (about £1600) but he has never listened to any SRV. He just liked the way it looked and sounds.
On a similar note, my son has a Fender "Blackie" Strat - which is an Eric Clapton sig. He doesn't like Eric Clapton, but bought the guitar because of it's looks, playability and tone... I am very proud of him!
  22.
That's interesting. I've not seen one of those before. Is it 2 x 12? How tall is it? Cheers

2 x 15 by the looks?
I can't remember the exact measurements, but yes it is a 2x15 and is "quite tall" Taller than a 4x10, but not as tall as two... http://basschat.co.u...efaced-vintage/ 24" apparently They were made for Barefaced users who also used valve amps, but as it turned out very few people actually used valve heads with them (I know I didn't!) so they were discontinued and/or morphed into the Super Fifteen, which is not as wide... Outstanding cabs - and very light (a 2x15 that is a manageable one handed lift?!?!). I only sold mine because I wasn't gigging very often and it was a bit wide and awkward for simply moving in and out of the house and the twisty stairs at the rehearsal room... I'd have it back in a second! They do occasionally come up for sale on here (http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2362329) but there aren't that many about and most people who own them, love them!
  23. Try to track down a used Barefaced Vintage? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/191022-used-a-barefaced-vintage-last-night/
  24. Herbie Flowers? My ears tell me that on the early Tom Petty stuff, Ron Blair probably used flats on his Jazz too... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DO2-4YAV8sM
