1. Sometimes I find my bass sound a bit on the "dry" side, and it got me to wondering... Why do all guitar amps have reverb, but (to my knowledge) no bass amps do? Is reverb considered "bad" on bass? If so, why?
2. Great player with a lovely tone and groove (IMO)... Anyone know much about him? Is he a member of Basschat?
3. Great name for a band!!
4.
I mainly use Youtube these days. But to be honest I think I would struggle to learn 20 songs in a week. Many years ago I would have found it a breeze but in my old age I'm a much slower learner.
Depends on the genre and band I suppose. Learning 20 Ramones songs would be less of a challenge than getting to grips with one Dream Theater track (IMO of course).
5. Learn to read music. Understand chord theory, structure and all the possible inversions. Become a jazz master Then you will never have to "learn" another "song" again and the world of music will all be clear to you and your descendants. A week should be long enough for all that. Just thought I'd say it before someone else does...
6.
This is also very true. We bassists obsess about tone, but almost nobody else can hear any difference between bass x and bass y (or amp x and amp y) at all! The rest of my family and my bandmates are utterly bemused by the idea that I would ever need more than one bass - after all, they all sound the same, don't they?
True - but lay people don't expect a surgeon to only use one type of knife or scalpel do they? Not that I'm comparing the job of a bass player to that of a surgeon, but you could stretch the analogy to cover plumbers, joiners, electricians or tradespeople of your own choice. They have different tools to do different tasks - even though we (as non-experts) may not understand the difference. If you are happy with your own gear choices, you are more likely to enjoy playing. This means you are more likely to play well and look like you are enjoying yourself - and these are things that punters DO pick up on!
7. Still happy with the rig Jose?
8.
I think that the reason for the new popularity of 12" speakers is because there's more of them about. 15 years ago all you could get was 10's or 15's.
There may well be something in that. Perhaps the "Three Bears" analogy? Tens are toppy, thin, but "fast"; fifteens are flabby, boomy and "slow". Therefore twelves are "just right". I don't believe a word of it!
9.
after going through a few cabs in my days I'm back with a 4x10.
Your sig indicates two 2x10s... Not quite the same as one 4x10? Certainly more portable and more flexible - but can two cabs ever sound the same as one larger one with the same speakers in it? Just wondering -but my guess is that they'd be slightly (maybe not even noticeably) different.
10. After years of trying some of the most expensive strings, I have ended up with these on all my basses now. It's actually embarrassing how cheap they are, but they sound good to me! Very even, consistent response and nice feel under the fingers. Well worth a try and about the price of a pint of beer! http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_valuestrings_bassguitar_medium.htm
11. I like the handles! They look like petrol caps from a car!
12.
Ah Flight of the Conchords - I loved that show.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUAcN9UCnbU&ebc=ANyPxKqKgKtXdgKBmdzkeIiAv9Elgol_UHg3_eQlHmx1OuMa-WEN-fl4_Q1K3rspoAizGRAmrpJwujs_Q4GfmYw86dyIFp8DOg
13. Just bought a TKS H115 to add to my Gen2 BF Compact Two fifteens (and a modular rig to boot) = heaven
14. Does the price include shipping within the UK? Gilly's did... PM incoming...
15. Bugger. I wanted this too!
16. Ahhh.. if only this had been a metal grille version
17.
Thought it was rod hull and emu for a minute .
Great work there Sir!
18.
I can see I'll have to do a note-for-note demonstration! Neil
Yes please! It took me ages to learn, and then that particular band broke up... One of my favourite bass parts, and all the more impressive to hear that the fills were improvised!
19.
People will sit on a piss and beer soaked carpet in their most expensive clothes within two minutes of James's Sit Down, odd.
You clearly play some quality gigs...
20. Barefaced certainly have their fans on here.... but, on the other hand... Let's hope this thread doesn't end up like most of the others!
21. I've owned (and sadly sold) two of these beauties. One of the best Jazz basses around (at any price) IMHO.
22. Everything about these basses shouts "class" - right down to little details like how the controls move! Highly recommended and fantastic value BTW - it's "Squier"!
23. That bass needs more knobs.
24. I've always fancied a four string Cruise bass - but they tend to come up when I have no cash...
