Of course, every piece of wood is unique (even from the same tree), but getting things like string alignment and how well the neck fits into its pocket wrong is very poor on instruments at this price point (even MIM basses). And comparing USA Deluxe fenders with bespoke, handmade "boutique" basses is like comparing apples with oranges. Different market altogether (IME). The Fenders (even Custom Shop to a certain extent) are mass-produced by machines. As such they are (IMO) overpriced - even allowing for shipping, import duties and so on.

Quite a few people have talked about "upgrading" the pickup on these basses - but does anyone know what the stock PU is? The Fender/Squier website isn't particularly helpful! It sounds OK mind... I'm just interested

That's cool Pete! No problem there I'd just be really interested to hear your reasons for preferring 2x10 cabs over others, and why you are determined to avoid the "boutique" manufacturers. But I'm just nosey!

I like the look and sound of these. Very well built judging by the appearance in the videos... interesting!

I was going to suggest a clone of my current set-up, as it would appear to tick all of your boxes... but then you say you don't want Markbass or "boutique" (whatever that means!). My LMII into two 8 ohm Bergantino HS210s would seem to be you perfect rig. It certainly works for me Any reason for the dislike of MB amps? I like clean and simple, and I've tried a few in the last year or so. The MB give me the tonal control I want without any unnecessary features (I leave the filters alone!). It certainly sounds good through the Bergs.

What are the Jack and Danny P basses like? The Js are exceptionally good for the money...
