1.
Many years ago the band I was in went into the studio, and the engineer remarked to the singer "your bassist is really solid, he keeps the songs together really tight". I was really chuffed with that, especially as he had played bass with a very well known pop band in the 80s. Getting a comment like that from a pro made my day so to speak.
Cool! Who was it? If it was Leigh Gorman I'll be well impressed!!
  2. I'd prefer "awesome" or "incredible"... but that's not going to happen (while I'm awake, anyway). "Solid" works for me
  3. I didn't know they offered 24 fret necks as an option! That's me now very interested... Lovely bass BTW
  4.

I love the way that pic makes the Midget look HUGE!!!!
  5. I've never heard of anyone having a bad experience with Spector and PJ in particular. Other companies take note!
  6.
I suggest a couple of rugs to lay over the mess on stage...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vt016gTNp_k
  7. What are the pickups in this bass? From the photo they look a bit like EMGs...

Some of us were genuinely trying to be helpful...
  9.
No generally. It all revolves around how you want to sound to disperse. When you put speakers in grid, you get upper mid/high frequency cancellation everywhere except being directly in front of it. Put speakers in a line and you get cancellation only in the direction of the line, which is why you see vertical arrays of speakers at concerts - to minimise cancellation in the horizontal plane.
I knew someone would bite...!

That's cool Pete! No problem there I'd just be really interested to hear your reasons for preferring 2x10 cabs over others, and why you are determined to avoid the "boutique" manufacturers. But I'm just nosey!
  11. I like the look and sound of these. Very well built judging by the appearance in the videos... interesting!

What an odd thread! I'm confused now.
  13.
A stack of 4, vertical, would take little room and might be pretty cool. I'd love to try that configuration at least.
To get the best from the speakers, don't you need to have then in a 4x10 arrangement? Like the four corners of a square?

I was going to suggest a clone of my current set-up, as it would appear to tick all of your boxes... but then you say you don't want Markbass or "boutique" (whatever that means!). My LMII into two 8 ohm Bergantino HS210s would seem to be you perfect rig. It certainly works for me Any reason for the dislike of MB amps? I like clean and simple, and I've tried a few in the last year or so. The MB give me the tonal control I want without any unnecessary features (I leave the filters alone!). It certainly sounds good through the Bergs.
  15. Careful with the bumping man - only allowed every 36 hours!
  16.
Personally I don't see why they don't just admit that it's the magic pixie dust they impregnate the driver cones with that makes it sound so good instead of spouting all that made up silliness and nonsense.
We can but live in hope...
  17. What are the Jack and Danny P basses like? The Js are exceptionally good for the money...
  18.
************NOW SOLD**************
Can you put that in the thread title then please, so that the mods can lock it and save those of us who might be interested from wasting their time?
  19. Great idea! Why do the cool things always come up when I'm short of cash?
  20.
I find it strange Fender Custom Shop leave a 'standard' 60's style Jazz bass decal on the headstock
Yes - and "offset contour body", which it clearly isn't. So they've just stuck a standard J neck onto a P body?
  21.
I've got one and can highly recommend this. The neck is incredible!
Agreed. Great basses and this one is priced very fairly
  22.
To be fair, nowt sounds like an Ampeg 8x10, especially behind you at pretty much full pelt, even with ear protection in. It might be a big old heavy design but it works.
That is sounds good cannot be doubted. It's when they try to explain why it sounds good that the garbage comes out...
  23. "Why eight 10 speakers? We learned early on that 10 speakers work much more efficiently than fifteens or eighteensand if you put eight 10 speakers together, you can move a huge column of air. You'd need five 18 or six 15 speakers to move as much air as the SVT-810E! And they simply wouldnt be able to respond to transient peaks as quickly as our tens" Oh dear...
