Quite a few options around in the for sale threads at the moment, certainly for cabs - not so much for amps though... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/265620-gallien-krueger-neo-410-and-neo-115-for-sale/ http://basschat.co.uk/topic/265477-tc-electronic-bc212-pair-for-sale/ http://basschat.co.uk/topic/263582-for-sale-uk-made-ashdown-abm-neo-210h-8ohm-500w-lightweight-cab/ http://basschat.co.uk/topic/262699-trace-elliot-ah250-gp11-mk-v-l175/ Enough to get you started!
Part of the fight against TB dont you know.
I'm not a fan of Talkbass, but that's a bit harsh!
The caretaker was complaining that the kids are allowed to flob IN the school during Ramadam, but he was refusing to clean it up. Appy polly logies if its a stupid question, but why during Ramadam ?
I think it's to do with fasting Muslims not being allowed to swallow anything during daylight hours - even their own saliva...

Manchester and Kendal are "Southern" to some of us, y' know!

What's your budget? Are you prepared to buy used or would you insist on new? How big is the boot of your car? How strong and fit are you (which will affect what you call "portable"). Oh, and sorry to be pedantic - but what you need is volume, not wattage (i.e. power). The two are related, but not directly. There are many other factors in getting decent volume and tone...
I assume its a signal/instrument cable as you are only carrying a signal not power.
All "signals" are current (i.e. a flow of charge). Current tends to cause a heating effect. The larger the current, the larger the heating effect... Increase the resistance and you increase the current (Ohm's Law). Thicker cables have lower resistance (assuming the same conducting materials are used).... Not aimed at you specifically BD - but just a general comment... So get some decent (usually thick) cables/leads to connect speakers to amps! They are not cheap, but remember that the chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and many of us spend thousands on our guitars, amps and cabs only to use cheap cables with them. False economy!

Recent threads on compression have not ended well... let's hope this one can stay helpful, informative and pleasant!
want something that I can crank up to get the best out of!
That works for guitar amps (if you want distortion of course!) but with most bass amps you are better getting the biggest amp you can afford and running it at levels way below its capabilities... Not only does it take a lot more power (watts) to amplify bass signals, but to most people's ears bass sounds better with less distortion. YMMV of course! A bass combo of around 30-40 watts won't be anywhere near as "loud" as a guitar amp with similar power.
I'm happy to say I have one of these, This is a great piece of kit.
It is! Would you like another one? How many basses have you bought off the Basschat marketplace?
Conan replied to Highfox's topic in Bass Guitars
Most of my basses and amplification came from here! And several predecessors too... I've done quite a few trades on here as well as sales and purchases, but interestingly all my leads and pedals were bought new. So far, almost 100% of my experiences in the BC Marketplace have been positive, and even the negative ones weren't that bad! -
General opinion seems to be that you can't go far wrong with Peavey gear (as long as you can lift it!). Maybe not what many would regard as a "hi-fi" sound, but not everyone wants that. Good, reliable, bomb-proof equipment that lasts for ever and sounds pretty good too. What's not to like? Oh yeah, the weight!

I took some photos last night (and even some video!) but I'm having problems uploading them If anyone wants to see them, drop me a PM and I will try to e-mail them to you. I am happy to package the cab up for shipping, as despite their lightness, BF cabs are remarkably strong and resilient! In the meantime, here is a photo taken by the cab's previous owner (Big John on here). Top handle still in place...

Just bought Nick's (well mine now actually!) Mayones Jabba bass. Excellent deal throughout with clear communications. Bass arrived quickly, exactly as described and very solidly packed! Thoroughly recommended!
No shorts. Unnaceptable stage wear. Band t shirts too.
Oh well... sometimes I'm happy to be "unacceptable" - especially if the gig is right next to the beach... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dyk_TmmOyek Apologies for the dodgy backing vocals (not mine I hasten to add!)
There has been a big swing back towards Fender basses- in the 80's they were going cheap cause they were old junkers. The cool kids had something headless with batteries and lots of straight lines! But then, the same was true of guitars for a while.
Guilty - having just sold my Status and now owning five Fender (or derivatives) Jazz basses!!
