1.
I can get one new from GAK delivered for £233.
Ooh! That's a good price! It won't come with a rack-bag though...
 2. What is the reduced price? I can only see the original one...
 3.
I think the geddy Lee should be a fine bass not sure if the mim will get dropped now
Sounds like the two basses have different neck profiles, with the new US model being a "thick C" rather than the very slim neck on the MIM (and the original CIJ) models. A lot of people bought the Geddy Lee J on the strength of the neck profile... It will be interesting to hear whether it makes much difference. Anyway, Geddy's original '72 J was fitted with a Badass II bridge, so are these new ones a true "signature" bass as such? It all gets very confusing in Fenderland!
 4. I swapped the bridges between my MIM Standard J (BBOT) and CIJ Geddy Lee J (Badass II) a while ago. I even swapped necks around at some point too. Surprisingly. neither made much of a difference to my ears. I was a bit disappointed to be honest...
 5. Any of those you suggest would work. Several people on here are very complimentary about Entwistle pickups at the moment, which have the added bonus of being very inexpensive. Could you simply remove the preamp and use the noiseless Fenders in passive mode? I'm not familiar with those pickups so pardon me if that is a silly question! Some recent threads that might be relevant and useful to you... 6. There are loads of threads on this very subject. It might be worth doing a quick search? You will get lots of suggestions, ranging from GFS, Wilkinson and Entwistle at the budget end of the scale; through Fender, EMG and Seymour Duncan in the middle and on to the boutique hand-winders.... None of it will be particularly helpful as only your ears will be able to tell you whether you like their tone in your bass or not... What kind of bass do you have and what pickups are currently in it?
 7. You should buy an LH500. In fact, you should buy mine!
 8.
Got an itch to get an 80s Japanese jazz.

Lol I saw one

And have bought it!
Now that's what I call decisive!
 9.
Good luck with your new drummer Conan. Sounds like he passed the audition.
Thanks very much! He's proving to be a very fast learner, and a nice guy to boot! I think I'd call that a result!
 10.
Thunder and Lightning... what many Lizzy fans apparently think of as a bad change of direction into a borderline metal band - which Lizzy never were.
While I can see their point, to be fair it was only the title track and Cold Sweat that were metal-like IMO. There are some very good - more typical Lizzy - tracks on that album too. The Sun goes down is one of my all-time favourite tracks by any band, never mind Lizzy themselves!
 11. In my mind's eye it looks like an Aerodyne but without the binding...
 12.
It is confusing - 'flat' is actually in a different position on bass and treble. Not that it matters, as it's hard to get a bad sound out of it. The TonePump is highly underrated imho.
Indeed. The only problem I had with mine was that it lacked the (more recently added) trimpot. The output was just too damn hot!
 13.
Phil's voice had gone from a sweet and soulful baritone, to a husky, raw and somewhat ruined growl. Not a stylistic intent IMHO, but rather the ravages of his habits.
While I'm sure that's a factor, the music also got progressively "heavier" (leaving out some of the jazzy tracks on Renegade), especially when John Sykes joined the band - so maybe some of it was stylistic too, although perhaps enforced by the other issues...
 14.
Fact is, they're an acquired taste.
Absolutely! I gave up on trying to convince "non-believers" many years ago... But interestingly two of my three children like Rush!?
 15. We regularly wine and dine our fans, paying for their food and drink all night. Both of them!
 16.
Not really... this willy waving contest doesn't interest me..
It's not "willy waving" at all. I like to think of myself as having a pretty rounded and broad musical taste (much like myself, before anyone else says it!). There are few bands that I really dislike. I don't listen to Rush all the time, but when I am "in the mood" nothing else will do. I like a lot of rock music, but I also listen to (and play on occasion) funk, soul, blues, prog, punk, pop.... I can see good things in all of it. As someone who has a lot of negative things to say about various bands, I am interested to know what you listen to. It's not intended to be a competition...
 17.
I am always amzed at the local scene and why certain bands are 'popular'..
Maybe they play Rush covers...
 18.
All sorts really. I'll dep covers, I'll do jazz or blues dates and I'll do original projects. I'm basically interested in gigs that look interesting and look after you.
And what kind of music do you choose to listen to? Care to name some artists? I'm just interested in what floats your boat...
 19. Back to the top...
 20.
I'm not sure that is entirely true.
I was thinking that myself...
 21. Interesting that they are still listing the TonePump as "boost only".... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/93320-spector-tonepump-is-not-boost-only/page__p__884498__hl__spector%20tone%20pump__fromsearch__1#entry884498
 22.
Ditched the stock strings for Dean Barkley
They add plenty of "Gnarl" to the tone, for sure!
 23.
The Fender - style bass looks great, but sounds budget, even in Marcus Miller's hands.
I'm not sure I agree. I think they sound fine. Hard to judge from a youtube video though, but they sound pretty much like a Jazz bass to me... Looking at the pickup positions though, the bridge pickup seems to be in a typical sixties placement - whereas in Marcus's original basses and his Fender signature models it is in the seventies position. Not sure how much difference that would actually make mind...
 24.
Yamaha BB425 going for silly money at GAK right now - a PJ that's well liked by many http://www.gak.co.uk...CFQHMtAodPU4AmQ
Wow! What a price!
