1.
The first time I went looking, I was lucky enough to find Pungent Effulgent and Strangeitude as a 2-CD set. It was certainly cheap enough all of...12(?) years ago and I found them both fairly accessible.
Yes. I was going to suggest that. Great price package for two of their better albums (IMO)
 2. Greetings! And say Hi to the Pink Panther for me...
 3.
I don't think I'd stick it long. The drummer and I are supposed to be partners in rhythm and the engine room of the band. If we're not singing from the same sheet for any reason, it's going to sound crap, and I'd want no part in that.
This. As bass players we are the generally the first to notice, and sometimes we get the blame...
 4.
This is the Big Baby 2 yes? Just wanted to double check as these are only £699 brand new? Steve
A PM would have been a far more suitable way to bring this to the OP's attention... Anyway - the extra options are the silver grille cloth and cover, which would cost an extra hundred quid or so, and it avoids the waiting time. So all in all not too bad a price!
 5.
This is giving me Plum GAS right now - and that's not always a good thing!
Thant is one of the nicest colours I've ever seen on a bass!!! I am a bit partial to purple mind...
 6. I think he means that it's his second NBD with this particular bass Mark...? Not all of us can buy TWO new basses at the same time!! Edit - hang on, so that would be NBD x3!!!
 7.
I say try it and if it works great. If it doesn't work you at least know. If you buy from on here chances are you shouldn't really lose money on the bass if you do decide it isn't for you.
Excellent advice! One thing I would add too - try to get the best fiver you can afford, and buy second-hand. If you get a "cheap" one, you may find it awkward to play due to the quality of the instrument rather than the fact that it has five strings! I know this to my cost... I tried fives and went back to fours mainly as my current band doesn't require (or even suit) the lower notes. But I do still like to fiddle on a fiver now and again!
 8.
every thread invariably devolves into slagging match.
No it doesn't!! Your sort always come up with that argument...
 9. I've been thinking of some of those pickups myself - so I'd be interested to hear what you think of them in your Geddy...
 10.
...choose the one that sounds best.
I think our work here is done.
 11.
Anyway, it doesn't matter, there will be a new kid on the block sooner or later.. and we get gas again...??
You mean like TKS?
 12.
Oh yes, and my cab is fitted with sturdy side handles so that the box doesn't hit me in the shins when I pick it up.....
Touche!
 13.
What has been the case for some years in these threads is that, sooner or later one of the the Barefaced haters will start taking aggressive and personal potshots at Alex Claber and anyone who owns a BF cab. Like calling them "fanboys" for example, or describing their "tone-goals" as "bemusing" and "clueless". And then - and I love this - they have the cheek to claim that posts, which are actually on topic, add nothing to the discussion.
14.
My own cab is an Ashdown Mini 15, modified by adding castors, bracing, damping, changing the ports for flared ones and fitting a BMS 15n620 driver in 4 ohms. I use it with an 8" midrange driver in a separate cabinet with a crossover I designed and built myself. To improve dispersion in the midrange, I'm going to swap the 8" for a 6.5" when I get around to it,
Sounds like a Barefaced Big One would suit you perfectly Stevie. Probably a bit lighter than your Ashdown-based cab(s) too...
 15. Not quite answering your question, I know - but I put EMGs in my CIJ Geddy and I'm very pleased with the results!
 16.
I have to admit to being totally bemused at the tone goals of the guys I've heard that do use them round here... But whilst they may not have much of a clue as far as I am concerned, it goes quite a bit further than that, IMO..
Does that not strike you as an incredibly arrogant comment?
It seems every company is fair game but people get over protective about this one...
Agreed. Some do. But then again, some people seem to circle above BF threads like vultures, waiting to make sniping and facetious comments while adding nothing to the discussion. It's been this way for some years now, and clearly neither side is going to adopt the other's viewpoint. Let's just agree to disagree?
 17. Lovely tone and impeccable playing
 18.
Not 'weak' - after all, what would be the point of a bass cab with 'weak' lows?
Yes. It all depends on with what you are comparing them...
 19. As someone who has not used Markbass, what is "their tone" like?
 20.
Edited to show new signature - ad to follow shortly.
I'd be careful with that... Advertising in one's sig is not really the done thing old bean!
 21. Maybe simplicity is what you crave? I traded a Marcus Miller Jazz bass for that very reason - the East J-retro circuitry in it just offered too many tonal options so I spend ages fiddling with it instead of playing it! The main reason I like my Hartke LH500 is because of its simplicity. Volume, bass, mid and treble. That's it. All settings are usable, and there is very little to fiddle with. They also have a good core tone and plenty of volume... Maybe see if you can borrow one and give it a shot? If you were a bit closer you'd be welcome to try mine...
 22.
indeed... I had a similar one and this happened.
23. I prefer Gibsons - so I'd go for the Tea-bird myself.
