1.
Not 'weak' - after all, what would be the point of a bass cab with 'weak' lows?
Yes. It all depends on with what you are comparing them...
 2. As someone who has not used Markbass, what is "their tone" like?
 3.
Edited to show new signature - ad to follow shortly.
I'd be careful with that... Advertising in one's sig is not really the done thing old bean!
 4. Maybe simplicity is what you crave? I traded a Marcus Miller Jazz bass for that very reason - the East J-retro circuitry in it just offered too many tonal options so I spend ages fiddling with it instead of playing it! The main reason I like my Hartke LH500 is because of its simplicity. Volume, bass, mid and treble. That's it. All settings are usable, and there is very little to fiddle with. They also have a good core tone and plenty of volume... Maybe see if you can borrow one and give it a shot? If you were a bit closer you'd be welcome to try mine...
 5.
indeed... I had a similar one and this happened.
6. I prefer Gibsons - so I'd go for the Tea-bird myself.
 7.
Conan, the tuners came from a P bass so I'm not sure if they'd fit a J...the interior diameter of the bushings is 15mm (approx). And unlike me, they are "waisted"...
Thanks for letting me know. I'm after some non-waisted ones, typically!
 8.
If the size and porting are different, the H115 and Compact may have differences in the lows, but the mids and highs should be very similar.
My experience was with the older, larger H115 - but I didn't quite find that to be the case... 9.
I like price but the green is foul. Black or natural looks good though. How do they compare to a squire cv or vm for less than half the price? I guess with a solid alder body and a few quid on some good pickups and you cant go wrong!
Surf green - foul?!?!?! Quite a few people (myself included) have bought them and think they are pretty incredible for the price. In fact, even ignoring the price they are pretty good basses (with a bit of a tweak in most cases). http://basschat.co.u...anny-1975-jazz/ I'm certainly happy with mine and I won't be changing the pickups as they sound good. The tuners may be getting swapped out though...
 10.
its got me thinking about basses for 1975
Buy one of these and spend the rest on something else! http://www.dv247.com/guitars/jandd-jb-vintage-1975-sfgr-bass-guitar-surf-green--201561
 11.

Lovely-looking bass... but if you just listen to it rather than watching, it sounds very like a Fender (or cloned) J bass with both pickups full-on. To my ears, anyway.
 12.
I like the Jazz for its neck profile and versatility in pickup options. I like the sound of the Precision for its mids. Whichever suits you is the best one
That's this thread done really! Nail on the head
 13. I recently bought Dan's Ibanez five string for my son. A very nice bass, exactly as described, perfectly packaged - and at a very good price. Good comms throughout, and a very easy and painless deal. Recommended!
 14. Do you know if the P-bass tuners would fit on a Jazz bass or a copy? And are they "waisted"?
 15.
Where are these available...
Dunno about lefties - but I got mine from DV247 http://www.dv247.com...f-green--209678 http://www.dv247.com/guitars/jandd-jb-vintage-1975-skbl-bass-guitar-sky-blue--201562
 16.
Even worse than my behaviour in Barefaced threads.
17. I thought it was quite interesting. He takes his covers to another level by playing lead/rhythm or melody/harmony parts simultaneously - which is not easy. When I saw the thread title I really didn't want to look.... but something made me! When i saw who it was I thought I would give him the chance. I'm glad I did!
 18.
I would never audition for a band that did not have business on the books.
Cool if that works for you - but I think that's a bit sad. Who is to say what the potential of that new "start-up" band may be? Every band had to start somewhere...
 19. The shape works very well..... on a Sperm Whale. I hate it on a bass guitar. But then again, what is a Les Paul if not a single-cut?
 20. Some clever rhyming and interesting subjects, but I just can't be doing with that level of profanity. I must be getting old...
 21.
Perhaps my judgement is coloured by the experience of helping another Basschatter ship a S12T from Newcastle to Bristol in its original packaging. Suffice to say the cab did not survive the experience and suffered significant structural damage.
That's not good... Which courier was used? Sounds like a problem there.
 22.
Nice one Sounds like the way to go!
Try one first of you can. If you can't, then Alex at Barefaced offers a one month trial where you can return the cab (at your cost I believe) if you don't like it. The reason being is that you can't try them in shops, and not everyone likes Barefaced cabs. There are a number of reasons presented including core tone, quality of finish and style of handles... On the other hand, there are lots of very satisfied customers too!
 23. To the OP: What is it that makes you think you "need" a cab with a 15" driver? Is it just because you are used to them? There are so many other options these days. Not that there is anything "wrong" with fifteens... but the old dogma that the bigger the speaker diameter, the more bass is seriously flawed. The size and design of the box you put the speaker in has much more of an effect.
 24.
To OP: A couple of trips to a few music stores and maybe the goodwill of some basschatters may help you try different pieces of gear and choose for yourself what suits you best.
Indeed! If we knew where the OP was based, we could even suggest a mini-bash of some description in order to showcase the available options (or at least some of them).
 25.
Sorry guys, I had an earlier BF Compact that was falling to bits after only a couple of months...
The word "earlier" may also be a factor here.
