I had one of these and it was superb. Good luck with the sale!
2. I'd post some pictures of my Stingray, Doublebuck and Probass, but they're 11,000 miles away
3.
However, I think the jazz bass is past it now, espeically in it's stock Fender type format. There may be a few miles left in boutique jazz basses but they're outclassed by the innovaters and market leaders now (Fodera, Alembic, ACG, Status Graphite, Zon, Ken Smith, Kubicki etc etc).
Here's the thing, all those makers you've named, I personally wouldn't class as market leaders. Innovators, yes, but not market leaders. Go into any music store and Fenders/Squiers will outnumber most other brands. Ask someone to describe a bass guitar and they'll most likely describe a Fender, be it a Jazz or Precision. All the others [especially the Kubicki X-factor, eugh] maybe as well be overhyped cricketbats. I'd say 'past it' is a pretty strong term. 'Outdated', potentially, but not even. You can still get awesome tones out of a Fender Jazz, and just because it isn't headless or filled with active circuitry to blow out on you doesn't mean it isn't still a tone monster
4. TV Yellow. Definately TV Yellow
5. I saw someone who hacked the end off and the underside, glued pieces of wood onto where they were, effectively making a blank headstock, and cut out a fender style headstock. He then attached thin maple veneers to the front and back and hey presto. I wish I could find the thread, unfortunately it wasn't on here
6. I'll always have a weakness for RD's. Shouldn't have sold mine
7. Awesome guy to do business with, all easy and very happy with my new 'Ray . Cheers Chris
8. Hi all, I have a black scratchplate for a 2002 4 string Stingray which I'm looking to trade for either a tort or black sparkle one Cheers Will
9. +1 on the bonkers loud bit, room filling even with my little 120w Hartke head. Would be interested in 1x12 cabs, or 2x10s
10. BUMP for picture Delberthot: Very good condition, no noise (bad!) through the cones, just the corner bits are a bit dented, no tears in the carpet.
11. Hi all. My Trace 4x12 is up for offers as I need to downsize my rig through lack of playing. Its a nice cab, punchy with may Hartke head, but just a bit to cumbersome and takes up space, which is silly as it is rarely used. Its 800W at 8ohms, with the possibility to daisy-chain. The condition of the cab is very neat, and it really hasn't been gigged much. Pick-up only I'm afraid, from Midhurst, West Sussex. I can travel a bit, but usually only wednesday and thursday, and for petrol money Looking for £200 o.n.o.
12. very tempted, I tried one of these in Andertons, only for a lot more money
13. If Fernandes did a Vertigo bass I'd be all over it.
14. At the risk of bumping an old thread, what's the best size saw to use to clean out the (in my case) wood putty for the old frets? Would a junior hacksaw blade and some tape be sufficient?
15. I used to have one, selling it was idiotic, even if it was far from original
16.
Yeh, I know that. I think my point should have been 'it doesn't follow Jazz bass specs', which would be criteria for to consider. It's a person thing, obviously. I didn't mean to rain on anyone's parade.
I would have prefered it if the seller had made a point of this too, as i only realised the 'problem' once I'd looked in a thread similar to this and someone pointed it out. But oh well
17.
As far as upgradability is concerned, the neck/pocket dimensions are the most tricky to change. Are we talking close to genuine sizes,ie would squier/mightymite neck fit?
I'd go for a squier if thats your plan mate. I've tried to black out this bass but its not with fender copied parts, so its a bit tricky.
18.
I'd leave that alone, mate. Look at the bridge: it's too far forward. It either won't intonate correctly or the neck, too is shorter. Seen these before.
You forget that the position of the bridge is ultimately changeable, even though it is 34 inch scale
19. The body is indeed an odd/oversized shape, i measured mine up to my Warwick and its fine, 34 scale. They're nice basses for £99, mine came up well setup and sounds great, quite piano-like :/. The series/parallel is a nice touch too. its not general fender-a-like parts though, I tried to put some Wizard Hammers in it and it doesnt quite measure up properly. Still, any questions just ask
20. Really tempted since I sold my Tobias 6er, what's the string spacing like?
21. ONE... wait, two words: Sean Malone /thread
22. Is it worth planing it now? Or will it warp?
23. A friend of mine works up at Goodwood estate and I think they've branched out to have kilns etc so that sounds do-able. How long would the wait be after kiln drying?
