  1. The wife and I have been tentatively planning a trip to Scotland next year (independent of my new ACG build), but I should have an ACG of my own by then. Hmm maybe I'll ask Alan about that slimmer profile. I already feel like I've bothered him so much, I'm scared to ask anymore questions!
  2. As much as I'd love a good fondle, I'm based in Central New York, so that might be difficult. Does your neck still have the assymetric profile?
  3. I'm so glad I made this post! You guys have made me feel so much better about this 😆 Regarding your bass, your original NBD post mentioned an "ultra slim profile". Is this a specification you requested, or more of a remark on Alan's usual necks?
  4. This is the bass that pushed me to finally pull the trigger on my first build!
  5. No shame in that! If it ain't broke... I've read pretty much every ACG related forum post out there, and I'm hoping this thread can help out other people that are thinking about an ACG build in the future. Even saying that they're not for you is helpful!
  6. This is a good point, and I think you're right. I'll stick with the B series and EQ01. Not a bad idea to reach out to Aaron regarding pickup options. The possibilities are a little mind boggling. I'll give that a shot. If only I could try playing every possible configuration 🫠
  7. I'm finally about to pull the trigger on my first ACG build, but I'm stuck on one major decision. I spec'd out a Retro B 5/32 with FB in neck and RFB in the bridge and the EQ01 5K preamp. Now I'm starting to wonder if I'll end up wishing I went with the Uber spec with the MC5 and the DFM 5K. FWIW, Alan informed me that the Uber would need an 18mm string spacing due to the pole piece on the MC pickups, whereas my original spec had 17mm string spacing. This seems like a small detail (literally 1mm), but a tighter string spacing was part of the reason I wanted this build in the first place. My Fender Am Pro II Jazz V has 18mm spacing, and I've found it a bit cumbersome on the right hand. I'm not totally sure what I'm expecting to get from posting this here, but I guess I needed to vent while I mull this over, and my wife doesn't quite understand the nuances of pickups and preamps. 😵‍💫 I also want to mention that Alan has been incredibly patient through this process. The man has a cult following on these forums, and with good reason! If anyone has any insight on this decision, feel free to share!
  8. I think this clip just had a serious impact on my bank account!
  9. This is absolutely gorgeous! How does the B string feel on the shorter scale?
  10. Yes I am! Also, for anyone else that's interested, it looks like Fret Nation should be releasing some demo videos soon!
  11. That does help! You can really hear the difference between the ACGs, the Wal, and the Alembic. Very interesting. Thanks a lot!
  12. That's a beauty! Sorry to hear about the arthritis.
  13. I will absolutely be asking nicely.
  14. Awesome! I think that might be the move. Thanks for the tip. Those clips sound great. Alan really seems to have some devoted fans. I haven't really seen a single negative review apart from some people saying the filter preamps were a bit complicated, but that's exactly what I'm looking for. It seems like the DFM has some detents on the lower knobs, too, so that should make it relatively easy to keep track of a few sweet spots.
  15. Thanks for the great info! I'm just getting started, so I haven't made too many decisions yet. I'm sort of leaning towards either a RetroB or a Finn 5 string (or 6 😬) with the MC/DFM5k arrangement. I love his more adventurous shapes, but I play in a country band mainly, and I need to consider the stage presence of the instrument as well. I'm tempted to go 33" scale, but I'm nervous that the B string would suffer, so I'll probably go 34-35". So many options!
  16. That's what I've heard! They look incredible, and I'm just trying to decide what configuration I want. Clearly the MC pickups are Wal-inspired, and I see a lot of people going for the Wal tone with them, but I've heard some people say the ACG filters are a bit more Alembic-y. Do you, or anyone, have any insight on that subject? I occasionally play in a Grateful Dead outfit, so being able to lean towards the Alembic tone would be pretty useful. Your clips sound great, by the way.
  17. Yes I did see that video, and it's a great start, but I crave more!
  18. This is my first time posting to Basschat, so I hope this is in the right place. I've been going down a rabbit hole with ACG and I've seen nothing but glowing reviews of both Alan and his builds. However, there are not many demos/sound samples available, specifically for the MC/DFM combo. I've scoured YouTube, and there are some nice videos of ACG owners playing their instruments, but I'd love to see someone show the flexibility and characteristics of all of the ACG pickups/preamps, especially the MC/DFM setup. Is there a hidden repository that I've just not stumbled upon yet? Or would it be possible to convince some ACG owners to upload some demos? Thanks all!
