1. now that's what I call a roadie doing his job!!
2. I have a compact and would love to double my house for... a lot less than half the price!!
3. wonder how much the drilled out bits are?
4. aah thank you sir!! I think I might change the valves AND pick up an attenuator then... get paid on the 15th so will search then! Thanks!!
5. can anyone pick up my query? I just wanna solve the issue of sound guys complaining about my amp being 'too hot' and sometimes DI'ing me! I have no particular issue with the gain/sound on the amp. so should I replace the valves, or just buy a -20db attenuator? the sound guy at my last gig used one of those and still said it was hot, though he worked with it and the sound was fine. maybe it's my Big Muff pedal and the Geddy Jazz combination, but they always complain! also, can anyone give me a quick link to useful valves. im not being lazy, but those websites look scary to me!! too many numbers and letters!!
6.
Awesome tone dude!... Is that how you got that bass sound on the recording? Just a big muff?
hey, only 4 months late with a reply!! the answer is 'yes'! (through a compact and OTB)
7. questioner... I've never had a problem with the OTB particularly... it's always a varied backline on stage, depending on where/when/who/etc, so it's all down to bass/treble and big muff for my sound... however im getting right bored of soundguys getting confused/irritated with how 'hot' the OTB is! it seems that changing the valves wont particularly solve this problem? would I be okay therefore in throwing a tenner at an attenuator, rather than going the whole hog valve wise? http://www.studiospares.com/mic-accessories/pro-10db-inline-attenuator/invt/568570/ im not against changing the valves either, but cant quite decide. from what you guys are saying, which ones I should get? (i play heavy rock, so y'know, everything on 11 innit). cheers!!
8. congrats on your sale. im still completely in love with mine, and always good to know they're still getting interest!
9. p.s. as you can see i need a fireplace! so I actually will consider a part-ex for a working pretty electric fireplace that'll fit that gap!!!
10. WITHDRAWN - not a lot of interest in this at the mo so Im gonna take it off, rather than have it hanging around. I've reattached myself to it having plugged in recently and decided to keep for now as it's convenient for writing riffs for my band. have been slacking for quite a while! thanks! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am looking to shift my SP212. It's basically a pretty lounge feature at the moment and is getting no use at all. I also have a barefaced compact, which I had been using for practice at least, but now, for ease of transport, I just use the cabs in the practice rooms we use. When we gig there's almost always a cab there (and the sound guy usually says keep it low!)... so basically I just don't need two cabs. I paid £350 for it from another basschatter (and friend) early last year or so, It's hardly been used since and is in perfect nick. I'm in no special hurry to sell, and I'd be looking to get that £350 back (heh, lets face it, no-one wants to devalue their bloody rickenbackers, the buggers, so why should i devalue my pretty Orange?!! ) natch I guess there's the courier price/situation to sort out. If you dont fancy coming to Cardiff to pick it up?
11. yup, cant say i have a problem with mine either. i often have to turn the treble down if the cab im stuck with doesnt balance the bass on full (i.e. the sound guy or bandmates winge about too much bass!!). without wishing to be overly contrary, if anything i find the clean sound (i.e. no big muff) too trebley sometimes, when we go 'light' i dont want the bass sounding clanky.
12. p.s. if in doubt... underplay.
13. in 'Doom' or whatever slow heavy metal styles, there isnt a requirement for overplaying, or widdling. You do that and you take it out of Doom Metal and into Heavy Metal (e.g. Maiden). You can play what you feel for the song, but that will likely change the style. I realise this might be obvious, but it never ceases to amaze me when muso-types criticise the lack of 'musicianship' in bands that play minimally... that's their style, that's what they do, not all music has to sound like lounge-jazz-fret-widdling to have sonic validity. Besides, seems to me you need to ask the band what kinda thing they want. Some 'Doom'ers wouldnt want any fills. Some leaning towards Metal might appreciate an occasional crazed bass noodle. I could talk about this stuff forever as it's all about feel and dynamics, and people tend to think that Doom Metal is just some neanderthal music (true ) which requires no thought at all (very untrue! )
14. resurrected from the dead... we managed to get one of our tunes on the Metal Hammer cover CD. no management or press people, the features editor just emailed us and asked us if he could use one of our tunes!
15. I've never really had a problem with it dropping out. My issue seems to be when i switch it off, there's too much treble/clank in the 'naked' bass sound...?! I use a Geddy Jazz, C# standard with drop B tuning. i usually dial about 1 o'clock on the volume and distortion, bass boost on and tone just off full, depending on whatever bass cab's on stage.
16.
Ah, Chesty - I like that, right up my street! £3? Bargain!
cheers matey the 2nd EP's much better tho edit : ooh, just realised the first one was free! so er, yup, enjoy!!
17.
Ah well, first imagine a 4 string drop tuned as being a 5 string in open tuning without the redundant string there to get in the way. Then if you use a "normal" 5 string set, strangely enough you're actually tuning up to get drop C, not down as is the perception. Then because with the style of music you are often using the open strings as an integral part of your riffs a 5 string in standard tuning won't cut it so well. True, on a 5er in standard tuning your final note goes down a semi tone lower than (for example) me in CGCF and all the other notes are there... but for this reason standard tuning doesn't have that required "evil" sound. I have nothing against 5ers. I have one and have a 4 banger strung BEAD. It's just a case of the right tool for the right job.
exactly. A lotta people ask me why I dont get a 5 string, then I tell them it's drop B (BF#BE) and they reply 'Oh'. it's not just having one phat string, they're ALL phat personally sound-wise I've kinda gone with the non-scientific 'plug in a Big Muff, that sounds fuzzed up and meaty' and left it at that. im long overdue for some sounds homework, but between what you get on stage/different cabs, i'm never really fully in control so as long as it's fairly reliable, I'm happy. We usually get complimented on sounding meaty/rumbling/fat, so thats cool I would also suffer from distortion getting covered by the two guitars as they're distorted too, but I'm pretty damn low n bassy, so there should be (even more) low end there. http://thorun.bandca...ck/god-particle my bass kicks this one off. Probably our best riff to highlight my dodgy timing, it's an odd bastard and im always glad when the band kicks in around me!!! to answer the OP, Distortion 3 sounds Awesome to me!!! \m/
18. had to post... £3,000 for a recordable cassette with 'Prodigy 96' written on it in pen??!!!??
19. Hey all, I know not all of yer are into the distorted heavy bass stoner grooves that my band tries to lay down, but you might be interested to see (hear) a bass player giving a bass push in amongst the riff-hem. even though I'm 38 and first plonked about on bass when i was 17, I've never really dug into the art; I dont slap or owt... but Im well into groove and Metal, so trying to add a few touches that spice up a band is a challenge for me, such that it doesnt detract from the overall tune, that i've been enjoying... and i hope to put more effort and add more touches in future. I'm rather happy with the bass sound on this recording as the distorted and the clear parts come out quite well. We basically recorded the whole thing live, 5 tracks all in one go, then overdubbed two guitar solos and computer-magic tweaked a very few missed notes/beats or unwanted feedback/bleed. pretty happy with it tbh. it's not perfect or super pro, it is what it is, but for £150 and one days work (except the writing!), with the engineer dude spending a bit more time mastering... Enjoy! (or be appauled, as the case may be! ) http://thorun.bandcamp.com/album/chorus-of-giants-ep-new-release 1. 21.
I've never had a problem with the neck on mine, I set it up for a low action when I first bought it 3 years ago and I've only had to readjust it once again due to a change on tuning and string gauges, it's now tuned down to C# and it holds it really well. It's been my main bass since then, they are great!
hey there... i tune to drop B (C#standard then drop the and i've had issues with the thing staying perfectly in tune, but i do have FAT gauge strings... I've had it setup recently and the action is really low. basically I LOVE this bass and will likely never swap/sell it. it's totally hefty sound and the neck is awesome. but Im wondering about changing the tuners to something that'll LOCK in tight. im sure the heavy gauge, tension and my heavy fingers are unwinding the pegs... it's not a nightmare, just needs a re-check after every 2 live tunes, but it'd be nice if it stayed in tune. btw, at normal tuning/gauge im sure this wouldnt be a problem... im not really using it for what it was designed for, but there ye go, we like it Heavy!!!
22.
They're in tighter than a gnats chuff and are made of cheese.
