1.
At the end of the day HMRC can impound your bass and leave you to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the bass went out with you, that it's exactly the same one, has already had UK duties paid on it or that you've paid exactly what you've declared.
+1. I have that criminal record :)

2. Yes, my metal band played there last summer with Godsized. It's run by a biker group and has an eight-bed dormitory in the back.

It was a four or five band line-up. The PA was huge and sounded good, the sound guy seemed to know what he was doing but the stage was raised and boomy.

It was packed but we didn't go down too well, if I recall. Godsized fared better but they headlined.

Afterwards, the bikers looked after us very well. We partied with them until about 5am. They were great guys.

It's worth going for the experience but, as you say, the money doesn't really make it worthwhile. To top it off, I got a speeding ticket on the way home -- watch that stretch of the M180 for cameras and coppers.

4. I don't know about DBs -- but I recently looked at 4x4s and it came down to this.

You either have a proper 4x4 and not a great deal of load space, or lots of space and less of the 4x4.

The Land Rover Discovery seven-seater has a fair bit of space with two seats down -- and three-way-split middle seats to allow for the headstock. It's widely respected but has a lot less space than an estate car while it weighs in at two tonnes and drinks fuel. And it has an annoying split tailgate that means you have to lift stuff over a stuck out lower lip.

The best load space I could find was in the Audi Q7, which has an easy tailgate and a fancy system to lower the suspension when you're piling stuff in. However, it's tank-like, expensive to buy and run while the "4x4" is a Haldex system that shunts power around where it's needed (so not a real 4x4).

I came to the conclusion I'd be better off with a van.

5. I love those T-birds -- particularly the first. They're great reversed headstocks.

Wish I was heading to Nashville with enough cash to buy :)

Edit: They cost around £2,000 before fancy woods, shipping, tax and duty.

Damn, if I'd known it was a head I was selling you, I'd have charged you more :)

Thanks, Alec.

Kitty Link, surely :)

Good luck with finding homes for them -- it sounds like you're living a nightmare out of some old cream advert.

Having said that, I can't find the bloody thing. Anybody remember an Eighties or Nineties TV ad for imitation cream which showed hundreds of cats sitting outside a house? It was a parody of The Birds.

I have -- but the recipe was lifted from the internet. I should have made that clear :D

9. BEER ROASTED CAT
1 cat cut into roast
1 can of Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup
1 cube of beef bouillon
1 clove of garlic
1 Fine Irish Stout

Cover and soak cat roast in salt water for 24 hours. Drain water and then cover and soak in beer for 6 hours. Drain and place in crock pot with your cans of soup. Add a clove of garlic, and a cube of beef bouillon. If you start to slow cook your cat in the morning with your George Foreman Cooker (or it's ilk), you'll have finely cooked feline in time for supper.

If a slow cooker is not available, a cat can be baked at 350 degrees for 2-3 hours in a conventional oven and still come out pretty good. Beer Roasted Cat is fantastic served with mashed potatoes, collard greens, and fresh, homemade egg rolls. When planning a full meal just remember -- cat is a course best served hot!

Cat may not be the most glamorous, or tastiest of game meats, but with a little thought and preparation, Baked Cat can make the belly of the persnicketiest diner glow with home baked goodness.

:)

10. Alec bought my Ampeg SVT-410 HLF cab today. He paid cash on collection.

The comms were good, everything went smoothly and he's a great bloke.

Hope you enjoy it, mate -- you got a bargain for a quick sale. :)

11. Just got back home with Tim's Bergantino NV610. The comms were good, we had a smooth transaction, he's a great bloke and his guitarist makes a mean cup of tea.

Buy with confidence -- Tim's a top basschatter.

12. Levy's do extra-long suede straps -- I've never been able to find them in this country but Andertons in Guildford can order longer back sections (the extendable bit) from the Levy's distributor to adapt your old one. They quoted me £8.
