1.
That was erm...not what I was expecting! I also had a small childish chuckle to myself about the fact that his second name is Manring.
ha ! yep, not what i'd choose to listen to an LP of, but credit where it's due, it is inventive.
2. ah, just about to fall asleep, still thinking about this, and remembered the bit about the 'stereo illusion' (regardless of it being a mono recording) will try again tomorrow, through one speaker and using just one ear.
3. i'd have just pretended to be deaf, and mimed that i couldn't hear them, whilst pointing at the 30 watter !
4. i'm loving this thread ! reading the Wiki link in the OP, small speakers have difficulty reproducing the fundamental, as do computers. now i want to know the correct answer, if there is one. i'm getting 1&2 down, 3&4 up on headphones (quality sennheisers) then i tried on JBL studio monitors .. 1 down, 2,3,4 up ! damn ! edit, arggh ! i'm off to bed, all confused-like ..
5.
1st and 2nd ascending 3rd and 4th descending where's the answer?
just listened on headphones. i got exactly the opposite. Paradox indeed.
6.
The first 3 are ascending, the last one descending. That's it, isn't it? Didn't hear anything weird.
but bear in mind this : 1) you have a 'trained' ear. 2) 'When listening to this sound file, it is best to use equipment with a flat frequency response, so as to avoid spectral distortion. Features that alter the signal in any way, such as spatialization features, should be turned off. Compression algorithms should be avoided, in particular for the stereo illusions. And make sure that the playback amplitude is not too high.' and most people don't listen to music on either basis. (nor are most people bassists)
7.
A thanks to Phil (i.stein) for pointing AMTP out in some other thread a couple of days ago. Been listening to this over the weekend and have been sad each time the last track finishes. Excellent aural experience DLB. Took some work to put those tracks together no doubt. New fan here!
no credit to me, their product speaks for itself. no matter how hard i try, i CANNOT get bored of this.
8.
CARDIACS.
never thought you'd say that, Steve ...
9.
It's also incredibly difficult for untrained ears to pitch anyway because of how unnatural and jarring it is musically. Stravinsky was a big fan, plus everyone and anyone who came after him and took great influence from him. Leonard Bernstein, John Williams spring to mind.
that'll be why so many people find punk, metal, d'n'b, dubstep etc.. 'unlistenable'. tee-hee..
10.
Wow, the pigtronix mothership looks like it could clone your pet! My G5 should arrive tomorow!
be sure to get a compatable expression pedal ! you need to set the 'intensity' control at the central mark for it to work.
11. i'll get around to doing this in a min, but the tritone is also known as the 'false octave'. it's my favourite interval, much underrated, and not part of many traditionally-taught scales. also 'the devil's interval' - ooo-er.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tritone
12.
. the only role any instrument plays is the role you choose to give it, ..
well said. i personally don't mind whether people choose to use fx or not, but what does 'get my goat', is when they visit the 'Effects' forum to either slag off the use of effects, or question the point of them. if they want to do that, then 'General Discussion' would probably be the best place to do that (they'll have more back-up there), rather than trying to preach to the converted. it would be the equivalent of me going on a religous forum and telling everyone that i don't believe. jeez !, some people ..
13. bump. price drop to £45 UK posted. Bargain.
14. ah, i thankyou for putting my mind at rest !
15. realised i'm cheating as it isn't one bass part, so in lieu of that one, i'd go for Michael Manring.
16. well, i would've put a Les Claypool vid up, but this is equally inventive, all bass parts, no geetars. see if you can recognise the sample at the start. answers on a postcard. you'll require good speakers, not laptops.
17. play the bass any way you want to. there are no rules. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=985JGeGq_tc
18. o.k., i got rid of my Whammy, as it took up too much real estate on my board, and have ordered a new Boss PS-6 'Harmonist' to replace it. but, the only Bass vid i could find on YT was, err.. 'unhelpful' (that's me being diplomatic, for a change ) the Harmonist i've ordered came in at around the £100 mark, so i figured i could shift it on the 'bay if it didn't work out, as they're usually around £130. it'll take an expression pedal, but some functions can be used with the on switch, like the s-bend. i understand that the tracking can be a bit glitchy, but tbh, the Whammy wasn't exactly great for that either. has anyone here tried one out yet ? i'd be interested in your thoughts, if so. ta.
19. nicely. let me know, and i'll be there.
20. absolutely love it ! great work. more people need to hear this !!!, and buy it. keep up the great work fella.
21.
Typing balls or typing with your balls? I'm banned from the local library for the latter.
that explains what Dandelion was doing in his OT thread, hitting Caps Lock by accident. making the best use of them before surgery.
22. i'm always typing balls on BC. ..never did me any harm ..
23.
This makes little to no sense to me...
little OR no sense !
24. it is one of those things, i'm afraid. must admit i was surprised too when i first got into fx. good pedals certainly hold their value (a bit like quality cars), whereas crap ones don't. discontinued and rare ones can even rise in price (deep impact, anybody ?) the good thing is that their resale value usually holds too, so just look on any minor loss as 'rental'. re: velcro, - the rubber feet are cheap to buy, so not really an issue.
