Problems with volume levels between effects
phil.i.stein replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Effects
have you got an LS-2 (or similar) ?, makes switching easy, as you can use independent levels for each loop. edit: or you could buy my clean boost off me here (shameless) http://basschat.co.uk/topic/157501-clearout-time/ -

New Cab of Dooooooom! Barefaced Big Twin T
phil.i.stein replied to pantherairsoft's topic in Amps and Cabs
nice one Shep. cab envy. i love my compact/midget-t set-up, but for dub etc., that sounds like the one ! a Genz-Benz amp should be your next move.. -
found it on TB, quoting itswac : "Nathan uses the Hot Hand MIDI-EXP to get those gnarly pitch shift dive-bombs. For the wobbles on his most recent video, that is BEF."
I probably need to go to bed and approach it in a more patient mood I just want those wobbles, right now! lol.
ikwym, i can only wobble like that in my dreams..
-
hmm, i reckon he's probably using a whammy pedal (or similar) in octave down mode, and just using the hot-hand to control the filter on top of that. i could be wrong. also i think he was also using not only the hot-hand, but also the hh midi-exp pedal, but again, not sure. i haven't seen that pedal on sale over here yet, but it looks like good, if a tad expensive..
-
no, but there is stuff on Talkbass about it. i read something about a pitchshifter somewhere in his set-up. sorry to be non-specific, but check out the corresponding TB threads.

you can't do everything you want without the occasional handling of the ls-2. i'd do this : Tu3 >Ls-2 (in A+B mode) - Loop A - Muff & Bef pro / Loop B - the others. output of Ls-2 > VTBD > Amp. then when you want one loop only, just 'zero' the volume of the loop you don't want to hear. the only other way would be to get another Ls-2, (or some sort of on/off switch) for one of the loops, which is a pain.

yep , try itswac. although it sounds like a cable/wiring problem. what's your signal chain ? i haven't had any issues with mine, except not being clever enough to get the best out of it yet..
Sad response. I actually use effects (DLS, Fulltone, Akai plus a few I've knocked up myself) as and when it seems appropriate, but was making a joke. I guess it went right over your trolling little head! ficelles
kind of difficult to see that you were joking ? without a smiley or summat.. i assumed you were one of the anti-effects brigade, and thought you were trolling ! .. misunderstandings all round. just got hold of a fulltone OCD, great pedal, what Akai is it btw ?

What are you listening to right now?
phil.i.stein replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
storming track, kind of Nick Cave-ish ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P39dRO0y-Mg -
There are two effects needed for bass guitar: 1. The "Precision" effect. 2. The "Jazz" effect. Both are available from your local Fender stockist. ficelles
zzzzz, snore, zzzz...etc.. deja vu, i think we 'ave met before ? people who don't use effects should probably not bother with the 'effects' forum. that's why i tend to avoid the 'double bass' forum. TROLLololol..
Glad to see everyone is into the BEF Pro over here! I made blog entry on the Source Audio website detailing some of the settings from the 'Slurple Gurp' BEF Pro video. That should point you in the right direction for getting those dubstep sounds. If anyone has any questions, I'm happy to help!
if its a sounblox envelope filter pro with that hot hand. i may have just been convinced!
i think it is, although what other fx in front / parallel is another question.
I am due an Iron Ether Frantabit tomorrow or next day. I am hoping to see how that works instead of my SFX micro-fuzz (which I love).
triple jealous.. (the third being brew-dog, of course )
That's a great sound, any idea what exactly he is using?
no mate, clueless, but i may have to find out. xgsjx may be able to find out from that forum though !
I have found the Q is not set well on default. benefit from backpage adjustment of that. Please post your settings. I have only had 2 sessions with mine in the 2 weeks I have had it.
o.k. here goes. wobble is all about controlling the LFO speed (sorry if that sounds obvious) for that one i used filter #6, although i'm sure any of the 2-pole filters (1-7) will work, possibly more as well. put the mix dial on full 'wet' setting (preferably the counter-clockwise one, as it has more bass retention. you can later blend in some original signal if required. don't worry too much about the speed dial if you have an expression pedal, as this combined with tap-tempo or a drum machine with midi will control the initial tempo. the frequency dial should be somewhere in the counterclockwise range (5 o'clock to 11'o'clock, depending on what frquencies you want to filter) mine was about 9 ish.. sweep range is anywhere from 1 o'clock to 5, depending on how much you want of the 'wah', so maybe start a 3 o'clock, and tweak later. now the important bit.. go to the backpage menu, by pressing the 'mod source' and 'tap tempo' buttons simultaneously. 1) set the XD (expression depth) parameter anywhere between 9 to 13. 13 will be full depth, therefore full speed, so if this proves too fast (depending on the beat/tap tempo), reduce it downwards accordingly later on (i used 10 for that clip). alternatively, if your exp pedal has a depth dial, like the moog ep-1, this will do the same job. 2) XC (expression control) to 1 (expression to speed). 3) leave the others normal for now, except LS. either use #9 (sine wave) or #7 (rectified sine, which is basically double speed #9). you may want to reduce the 'Q' if it proves too resonant for your input from your initial bass/fuzz input. now press the two buttons simultaneously again to get out of the backpage menu. i then boosted the graphic e.q. to give more bottom end, and cut out some of the harsher mids, but this is dependent on taste. ideally you now want to produce a deep, sustained note in front of the bef, so either a fuzz pedal or octave & fuzz before going into the bef, as just the signal from the bass alone probably might not give you enough sustain. mess around with your tone controls to boost them lows if you like. enable the tap tempo by pressing that button, and either manually tap one in using the right hand footswitch, or send it a midi signal from a drum machine or computer. hopefully you should be good to go.. just tweak accordingly. switch it to LFO instead of envelope, of course and don't forget to save your settings when you're happy. let me know how you get on, i may have missed some vital instruction !
Yep, that sounds amazing. What expression pedal are you using out of interest?
just the cheapo moog EP-1, but i guess any passive expression pedal would do the job. the moog one has a depth dial which is handy !
That chap's on a Facebook forum I'm on called Organic Bass Wobble. So you did that without the hothand? I'm more impressed.
yep. although you needn't be impressed, the expression pedal can be assigned to the speed parameter, and in my case i hooked the bef to a midi output from my mates computer (although at home i use a drum machine with midi output). the speed of the minimum and maximum depth of the expression pedal are then in synch to the beat, (including beat divisions in between the min/max) so i cheated ! ...you can tap a tempo to a beat too, in case midi is not an option (i.e. playing along with a live drummer etc..)
