"Oh, you should learn to read music, you'll be a better musician for it." "But I make a good living doing *enter career of choice*. I have no inclination of making a career of music. I just enjoy getting together with mates and knocking out a few tunes." "Oh, you should learn to read music, you'll be a better musician for it." "But I'm not into jazz, I have no intention of doing sessions, I just enjoy getting together with mates and knocking out a few tunes. "Oh, you should learn to read music, you'll be a better musician for it." "But I don't have the time, I just enjoy what I'm doing." "Stuff your enjoyment - learn to read... you'll be a better musician for it." etc etc If I was a non reader the pompous grandiosity of some posts in this thread would put me off for life. And I'm speaking as someone who's been a pro gigging musician since 1975 Incidentally, I've done many sessions and never once got a whiff of sheet music. I've generally been left to my own devices. However, if you intend making a living doing sessions , then learning to read is a must. Don't think that applies to many contributors to this thread though.
in a nutshell. game over.
  2.
PM´d about the MXR.
PM back at ya'
  3. both of these are immaculate, boxed, instructions as you can see (well, o.k., so the MXR box is scuffed, but only a complete [s]squirrel[/s] collector would worry about that.) neither have been gigged, just tried out at home. MXR M-80 D.I./Distortion (blendable) ON HOLD FOR NOW.. £90 posted (UK) seems to be the going rate for these babies. less than 6 months old, obtained from Digital Village new. Way Huge Swollen Pickle Mk.II ALSO ON HOLD £90 posted (UK), same price i got it on here a couple of weeks ago, great versatile fuzz with bags of bottom end on tap, just not quite what i was after. i am very fussy as reviewed in BGM recently. trade-wise my next acquisitions will be a decent volume pedal (EB 6181 or similar), and maybe some kind of bit-crusher or similar freaky thing. try me. happy to post further afield, but cost will rise as appropriate. also happy for pick-up near Stamford, Lincs or Peterborough. edit : if i sell these BC gets a donation, if not a really cute puppy dies. the ball's in your court people.
  4. i e-mailed johnny a couple of days ago to thank him for my order, and let him know that he's highly recommended on BC. he was very grateful. top man !
  5. very tempted to sell my Way Huge Swollen Pickle, i got from here a couple of weeks ago from Dosi-y-anarchy. it doesn't have a blend, but has a huge bottom (oo-er missus) it's a very cool Muff variant with more options and tweakability, but i have too many fuzzes now, and this one isn't quite my style.. PM if you're interested, i got it for £90 posted, so would be happy to get the same back. there's a review of it in last months' BGM.
  6. welcome. Bill Hicks rules (well, ruled perhaps..)
  7. yep, george l's are definitely the way forward. what's the name of that shop near you Shep, where they sell the cable by the metre ? may have to visit very soon. oh and big-up to Johnny Shredfreak and his well-priced power supplies. top man !
  8. no longer going for this, so.. BUMP.
  9.
I don't find it too bad with small boards and only a few pedals, but whenever I go to my big board I properly plan it all out first, sometimes on the inside of the lid as it is the same size, but isn't velcroed, so the pesky moving about doesn't become an issue. Properly planned; just transfer to your proper board!
yeh, that's what i'm trying at the moment, i'm just grumbling..bah..
  10.
PMed!
replied, and probably sold !
  11.
Does anybody else think those wood pickup covers look rank? Or had nobody even noticed the bass?
no, just noticed the wooden way she's holding it.

    generics.

setting up a pedal board (or two/three) can be either great fun/a complicated challenge/a complete nightmare !! i dearly wish that there was a consistent method of integration (i.e. placing all the connections on the same side ?)...it just pisses me off sometimes. anyone else spending too much time awake trying to figure out the various connections/possibilities , without tearing up velcro every 2 mins..? aaaargh ! (rant)
  13.
I can see your logic but unfortunately, it doesn't work like that. You could make the fuzz sound less prominent but the actual sound of the fuzz would be the same. Also, when your guitarists kick their distortion in, the quieter sound of your fuzz will get lost and you'd be hearing your clean signal again. In this case, I'd recommend looking in the For Sale section here for a reasonably priced distortion/fuzz (of which there are many). Dan
so true, a lesson i've learned at much expense..
  14. for sale £105 posted. - new online price £170-180'ish this is virtually studio-quality. hardly any background noise unless you crank the gain to max. extremely tweakable from subtle to full crush. never gigged, just home use in front of synth/octaver pedals, so perfect condition. got rid of the original box, but it will be well boxed & packaged. original mb power supply included. might even consider a trade/part-trade for something whacky, small-footprint envelope-filter, or a quality volume/exp pedal. try me. 15. cool as ! can i have one ?
  16. bought a pedal from Will, great trader, polite, communicative and prompt. what more can you ask ? top score.
  17. never in the course of human music, have there ever been so many bass-players, so willing, yet so unable.. to suck their own cocks.
  18.
going back a bit, the Jack has a zero fret so widening the nut a bit isn't a biggie. I've done it on one of my Jacks and it was fine.
nice one, thanks !
  19.
Can anyone recommend a good multi fx pedal? I have a few Separate pedals which are all well and good but a nightmare to keep setting up. I have a Digitech BP80 which is enough to put me off Digitech for life. (by the way its for sale any takers?) So im thinking get a decent multi fx pedal. What do you guys think? What do you use? cheers Dean
hiya Dean, not being cheeky here, but have you tried this first ? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=30341 there's so many these days, but line6 seem to be a good bet, or zoom, or digitech or..oh well, please let me know when you've figured it out, i'm still in expensive stompbox mode at the mo..
  20.
Got it set up now an to my surprise it went smoother than i expected it to go, my biggest concern was the nut but no filing needed there, just a slight truss intonation an truss rod adjustment, no unwanted rattles or buzzes an getting some great/different/interesting sounds from putting in slides going up to notes on the same string etc. Having fun with it at the minute, totally different playing style so its still a novelty, just bit limited with the lack of G. (everything is telling me, as much as don't want to admit it or like the idea of it...... gotta get a fiver )
thanks for the update, i am tempted for punk/metal/reggae stuff, although a fiver seems the more sensible option. also equally tempted by the idea of a seperate 4-string set-up with ADGC (not tuned down) for use exclusively with an octave pedal (-1 oct, to clarify), just as a synth-type bass for d'n'b/dub requirements, mmmmm. so many possibilities, so little cash...
  21.
Bra usually works.
there's me beaten to the line yet again.. although i must admit, w.o.t.s' was an inspired reply..
  22.
Bump
if this ain't gone by the end of the month, i'll have it, but for now my funds are gone. so BUMP from me too.
  23.
In the past, I have had up to 6 pedals on a board at a time & not really had much signal loss... Now I have 8 pedals on a pedaltrain 1 & I have been having to use my Phathed PD7 on clean boost setting, to compensate for the drop in signal... I want to use it for it's varied distortion/overdrive sounds... even though it's a noisy pedal, I kinda like what it does.... I bought a EHX nano LPB-1 booster (cheapest option available to me at the time) to see if that could take over the job but it seems to distort, wherever it goes in the chain & is also a noisy pedal... more so than the Phathed!! How can I get my through pedals sound matched to my comp only sound, without spending a fortune? Any advice gratefully received After much experimentation, I have ended up with this signal chain.... loop 1 - EBS multicomp to amp loop 2 - EBS multicomp, Aphex bass xciter, EBS octabass, Dod envelope filter, Colorsound bass fuzz, Ibanez PD7, Boss chorus, Boss DD6 delay.
a few ideas, some may or not work.. 1) octaver>distortion/fuzz>filter>chorus/delay 2) after suggestion 1) try swapping compressor between start of chain and end of chain. 3) initially, try to experiment without the aphex x-citer (these pedals are great at making small amps sound big, but depending on your amp/pedalchain you may find you don't need it at all), then if signal is still weak, try it at the end as a boost. 4) ultimately you'd be better off with better pedal connectors, like george l's or planet waves, but they are expensive, so leave that option until you've tried all others. worth a shot.. p.s. what are you using to achieve 2 loops, the amp or an ls-2 (or similar) ?
  24.
+1 for Pete Academy's Roland Micro Cube RX. I've had one for a while now and they're cracking little amps with loads of cool features and effects.
..after just watching the demo, i think i'm sold on that one, the metronome and other features make it the right choice for me. just means i'll have to pay half..oh well..
