how was the gig??
ha ha ! they were awesome. the set started off dub-style with live trombone and guitar, and progressed into ska/dubstep mayhem. i danced like an idiot (even after having done the same at Melt Banana @ rock city 3 hours earlier..) the laser-light and offstage mixing also added to the whole event, you were just obliged to shake your ass ! there was another 4-5 hours worth of dj work to follow, but i had to fart out at 2:30, being the driver an' all.
The demo video for the Soundblox Bass Envelope Filter has now been made public.
cheers for the clip will, any chance of a pro-version (pre-sets, clean/mix,e.q. etc..)???.. now that would be ultimate..

i got fed up with losing picks...so did what you're doing now. don't bother with a compressor unless you're going to slap too.. your fingerstrokes will even out with practice. even with three fingers (watch billy sheehan !) experiment with valve pedals for gnarly tones.

Thumb bass is weak in the second octave

some cool tunes there.. i noticed the same as you said mainly on 'restless' and 'firing squad' a]with 'restless' it tended to be the notes you were sliding up to. b]with 'firing squad' it was when the louder guitar parts kicked in. have you tried altering the angle of the pup(s) to compensate for the volume drop on the higher strings ? - just an idea -

there's never been a better time to be a bass player in a band. with the rise of electronic music like dubstep and d'n'b, the focus has shifted much more to the bass than the guitar our band is going to do a dubstep d'n'b side-project, which may even involve one of the guitarists using a bass aswell ! (should be great fun) only problem (well, challenge really) is the midi/sequencing side. me and the guitarist are going to work on writing percussion and noise loops for the drummer to synch to. our first track will probably be a full on re-working of 'mustang sally' inna dubstep stylee there's loads of bands already doing stuff like that. check out CODA http://www.myspace.com/codamusicuk, i'm off to see 'em tonight as it happens..although i'm not sure they have a live bass player yet..
anyone remember Refused ? (swedish post-punk stuff) the singer and drummer have a new hardcore outfit called AC4 http://www.myspace.com/ac4hc the drummer now plays bass. i'm off to see 'em tomorrow night in Peterborough. then melt banana (japanese noise) at Nottingham rock city, followed by Coda (dubstep band) in Peterborough, both on Saturday. viva la red-bull !
..just got back from AC4. - not the kind of swedish hardcore i usually watch.. they were awesome, full of energy and thoroughly entertaining. i recommend. i'm not used to going to gigs without sinking a few beers (driving), but i still had a dance. no doubt i'll be able to watch my idiotic flailing on youtube in a week or two.. tomorrow should be crazy too..
Wasn't there some sort of nastiness between him and Tony Goggle back in the 70s ?
nah, they both made up, and now see eye to eye.
Just bought a Micro Fuzz from Max . Awesome pedal (gonna do a mini review soon) . The problem I've got , isn't the pedal , but my sound . I haven't used much effects over the years , save for my G5 for Hysteria alone . I can now nail the sound with this little pedal , but when the drummer and then the band kick in , I'm completely lost in the mix . I realise that this is purely a frequency issue on my behalf , but was wondering about splitting the signal . What I'm asking is , is it possible to run it out of the unbalanced output (not the DI) from my amp , then to a channel in the PA , and just push up the volume for this song only ? Thus having my clean sound out of the amp and speaker , and the fuzz (with a mix , granted of the clean) out of the PA . This would then kick in the sound for this one song (or maybe another like say Deeper Underground) . So sort of splitting the bass sound with - normal , and then fuzz and bass into the PA , isolating the fuzz from my main sound . Is this a goer ? Or do you think that maybe DI pedal , with the bass back to the amp through the 'thru' , and an unbalanced 'out' into the fuzz , then the PA (being brought up volume wise just when needed) . This seems simple to me , but does anyone else do something like this ? Look forward for any advice , cheers Paul .
not sure i get the full picture here, the G5 has two ouputs (synth only & mix), can you use these to achieve the same result ? or a boss LS-2 (cheap option)
It was more a comment on the elitist nature of the punk scene.
we probably need an 'irony' icon to add to the recent gas one.
Unfortunately trying is no longer applicable, ISIS called it a day in june. I'd have given a kidney to be at their final show. They did support tool on one tour as I recall.
shame, so a band i never will get to see. always liked Neurosis though (@bartelby) -still have their first l.p. pain of mind on vinyl..desert island disc. -
i also would like to add that punk (to my mind) was about protest. rap/hip-hop has suffered a similar decline. the mainstream loves to adopt things and water them down, as we all know
I think by 'frat rock' you mean 'pop-punk' I can't stand that either, I think a lot of people are judging punk today by this with out actually listening to anything else.
yeh, everyone uses their own terminology. you obviously gathered what i meant by that term. i don't mind some pop stuff myself, but that is exactly that - i.e. pop with a punk influence.
I bought these today. My plan is to hook the piezo to the jack then to a pre amp then stick the piezo on the bridge. I'm sure this won't work because I haven't thought of something, any ideas?
mate of mine made a'bug' years ago using the same principle. it was the alarm speaker from a digital watch attached to an input jack. we used it at school (blu-tacked to a door) to listen to teachers/girls conversations. 1987 (nostalgia ). it produced very clear results.
I think it's just to do with the problem of how we define the genre nowadays. Too many elitists telling me what is and isn't 'real' punk. They can shove it.
+1 punk should be an attitude, not a sound. techno, d'n'b, dubstep etc. is more punk than that frat-rock crap i hear too much of these days. it's about anyone being able to do it, not just record industry mo-fo's.
