What are you listening to right now?
Cheers, that Dwarves song was ace too. I still prefer the older, hardcore stuff from Blood Guts and Pussy and The Dwarves Are Young and Good Looking, but the new stuff is great as well, in a different way. Every time I've seen em play live they've tended to play the faster, heavier stuff, and the crowd always goes nuts, even in tiny venues.
that track is one i'm learning to play at the mo. it's nice and simple, and a perfect motorhead-meets-pop tune. Hewho is debating a mini UK tour, maybe next year, and this is one of the tracks we may end up doing. at first i thought i'd have to use a pick (no bad thing), but my 3-finger technique is now nailing it beautifully, thanks to perseverance, and i think i can do it more than justice. -
yeh, i guess i'm way behind. still, maybe the old ones are the best.
One of their fastest songs, haha.
good call ! midnight brutality. -
all the distortions i've tried require a balance of clean. but also, they can sound better fed with od or eq first. experiment.

had to post this here aswell as the 'what are you listening to.. ?' thread i'm having an irrational love for this at the mo.. ok, so it's not gear-related as such, but hey, i started this topic, so derailment is my choice (and, let's face it one or two replies have been 'tangential', to say the least..) so, Who fans, enjoy ! i am sooooo way behind ! never knew about this at the time, extremely excellent ! for the easily offended musos out there, this is for you.. -
doh ! how silly of me .. BUMP !!!

in the interest of balance : 1) the hope that buying fx pedals might help to turn me into a one-man band by creating rhythms/synth sounds/guitar-backing etc. instead of either buying a synth/trusting other musicians to play what i want to hear etc... oh and .. 2) that ridiculous Zon Hyperbass thing, that i would never be able to play in a zillion years.

although this isn't necessarily a basschatters' gig as such, it is highly worthy of mention, so i'm putting it here in the hope that a few may notice .. o.k. so i guess Shep is waiting 'til the last moment to put this out there, but personally, i'm very over-excited by this, so i can't keep my mouth shut any longer. the antipodean monsters are here ! Golden Fleece, Mansfield Rd., Nottingham. 24/08 just be there. intro : a cool track, one of many. YT them. i'll see you there.
Oh god, 5 string Ps or Js, they look f***ing vile. Guitar straps with skulls or any of that voodoo sh*t on. Traben bridges. Are you f***ing twelve?
careful, Nige, no-one's mentioned gloves yet ..

nice topic Wooks ! OT but not OT, there's a concept ..
-
is there anything you do like ? ..
Kinda following from another ongoing topic, does anyone else here have any irrational dislike of particular gear?
only when it hasn't been dried and cured properly. but i guess that's not irrational, just irritating.

sorry to burst the bubble, but this one's been around for a while. in fact, now, he's probably even older than me, (joke). but you're right, he is pretty amazing. someone suggested that he was older than that at the time, (genetic thing), but whether there was any truth in that, who knows .. -
Peavey also do 'em.

Just played with a pick for the first time!
phil.i.stein replied to lefrash's topic in General Discussion
i prefer to play fingerstyle, but there are some tempos of tracks where a pick just works better (too fast for two fingers, but too slow for three to sound cohesive.) whatever suits. -
I played on the Hidden Stage at the Boomtown Festival yesterday with Musical Youth and had a fantastic gig. I gave a rare outing to my Alembic Series II 5 stringer. I got yet another dodgy Ampeg bass rig. I know they are great amps but I must have been given the duff ones. Every gig so far that has provided a backline that is ampeg, there has been something wrong with either the amp or the cabs. In future I'm gonna be taking my Mesa boogie head with me then at best, there is a decent cab and at worst, I can at least give the sound guy a DI from the back of the Boogie head with my sound. Jazzyvee
yeh, i have a similar thing with ampeg rigs.(i'm not a fan of house gear) whenever i turn up to a gig, someone before me has maxxed out every dial on the thing and renders it useless. i usually start by turning the input gain down, and everything else to 'noon' position and start to tweak to taste from there on in. telling the guitarist with the marshall stack to drop some of the bass out of their e.q. tends to help. onstage volume competition does no good for anyone.
