yeah rattling was what i meant! thanks for the replys.
glad to see your e-bay bargain came through o.k. don't worry about the rattle, it sounds like a simple truss-rod adjustment, as suggested. but don't attempt to do it yourself. i've just seen another thread on this forum where things went horribly wrong for someone attemting this. take it to a guitar shop, and get them to give it a look over. if this is the solution, it should cost very little to put right, and is probably due to the fact that it is stock that's been hanging around for a while, and then shipped out without adjustment. good luck !
Or maybe you're talking about them buzzing, you might need to get the action raised, or the truss rod (very) marginally tightened to suit your playing style. Good music shops should be able to do this for you for a couple of quid.
truss rod - probably the answer ! bang on the money. take it to a shop.
Is there any reason as to why the strings would vibrate even though they are held on the fretboards hard enough?
by 'vibration', i presume you mean 'rattling'. have you tuned it properly ? it takes practise if you're new to the instrument.. try tuning to a piano or a recording that you know the relevant root notes to, or find a local tutor who can help.

they look like good value. purple chilli got mainly good reviews in last month's BG mag. not heard them myself though..
Yamaha Clickstation is my favourite metronome for any drummer. It has a MIDI-In so can take MIDI Time Code and still allow your player to alter subdivisions and levels; plus it has a Aux-In so your drummer can use it as an In-Ear-Monitor Mixer. That's what my drummer uses. He bought the Tama Rhythm-Watch because the Yamaha is discontinued, but it has no MIDI-In and the display isn't backlit (handy for a dark stage). He eventually found a Yamaha and now the band are all MIDI-Synched (Arpeggiators and Tremolos galore!). Dan
top advice ! ta.
The Bass Multiwave Pro Distortion will resale in the US for $219 and should be available in the UK in a few weeks. I believe the UK distributors are: Go to Guitars Ltd. 15 Marryat Close Winwick Park Warrington, Cheshire WA2 8XS United Kingdom 44 1955 444696 [T] 44 1925 576205 [F] I don't work for them either but I am a big fan of their pedals. They sound particularly good on bass.
thanks for the info ! i shall be eating only raw offal until i've saved the cash !!! edit - and that would be my cat + his remaining food..

the best use of an octave pedal would have to be that on the "Wartime - Fast food for thought" e.p. as played by highly underrated bassist Andy Weiss and sung by Henry Rollins in their cover version of the grateful dead track 'Franklin's Tower' this is not just my opinion. i challenge anybody to find a better use of a bass guitar and octave pedal. it's a bit obscure, but his playing rips !! unfortunately, i can't find any downloadable example. PM me with you e-mail address and i'll attempt to send you an mp3 if you don't believe me.

If money were no object, what bass would you have?

hi, no idea what it sounds like, but a google search led me to this : http://www.imuso.co.uk/Effects/13762-/Ashd...r-Effects-Pedal tbh, i would probably go for two different pedals, but who knows, it could work...

Wy oh why did I choose to be a bassist
phil.i.stein replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
part from I have nothing to be well hung with unless you mean my boobs, but I'm only 24!
as long as you can see the fretboard when necessary ! don't suppose you'll be posting any pics ? -
Wy oh why did I choose to be a bassist
phil.i.stein replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
you chose to be a bassist because the bass-player is undoubtedly the coolest and most well-hung member of the band, and don't you forget it,.....erm , oh, whoops ! good luck with the audition ! -
iconic - i just noticed that you joined the forum the day after me ! how ironic, iconic ! i liked your description of the sound btw - wonderful, loose, slack, metallic sounding pop ! now forgive my piss-taking, but were all of these included in your 'glossary of bass tones' thread ? tee-hee
-
in fact, after listening to it again, i can't be sure that the note you're talking about wasn't overdubbed on top of the normal bassline. they were, after all, one of those bands at the forefront of sampling technology, so i wouldn't scratch your head too much about the technique.

hi, i used to love the album that this tune came from. i can remember reading an interview with them at the time, in which the guy (can't remember his name) said that he recorded the bass parts using an old short-scale bass made by a real budget make called Sattelite. i used to own one !! it was awful, and i couldn't believe that he got that tone out of it ! i don't know if this helps, i just thought it was interesting, and proved that clever studio production can make anything sound good !!
Well I'm depressed. The singer who started this chain of thought has to go and work in London for a year so it's all on hold Pooooooooo
pity. the more reggae bands the better. still, no reason why we can't make this the reggae/dub equivalent of the funk/groove thread thanks to you...! make sure you hook up the pc to some half decent speakers, though !!
This is one of Teacha's originals i'm playing with him at the mo which i particularly like,
nice. is this the alpha & omega stuff i have on DUBHEAD vol 1 - jerusalem ?

now embedded, i'm getting the hang of this..

i see no reason for this thread dying out.. not enough people know this l.p. and it might be difficult to get these days, but here's my fave tune from it. the recording is obviously from the vinyl, but it's still the daddy of a bassline !! my missus reckons he sounds like freddie mercury, and she has a point. great voice ! check it !!
