Check out my band thebrokendoor on myspace and spotify. I use a parallel splitter, one layer is octave > fuzz > chorus > lpf (controlled by expression pedal) > tube distorion > delay. The pedals are OC2, Wooly Mammoth, CEB3, MF101, DHA VT2 Dual, DL4. That'll get you a few different usable sounds, and you can probably try some combinations on a multifx. My layers are: 1. Board as above. 2. Adrenalinn 2 3. Pitch to midi controlling MicroKorg 4. Freqbox feeding customised Bass Microsynth It can lead to some serious subsonic annihilation!
dude, i will be checking this out v.soon, straight after the f&s show on r6 & dinner !!

zach - i would be interested to know what other bands you know of who are doing similar things... i don't get to hear many new bands that are into this kind of live d'n'b/dubstep stuff, so if you can recommend anything, i would be grateful. my fave crossover was the mad capsule markets, what u into ?

hi, i'll be doing something similar, so i'll keep an eye on this.. for the moment, i'm starting with a compressor to even out the signal, then an aphex x-citer to boost the signal before going into the amp. my amp has 3 fx loops (pre-amp 1&2) and a master loop. so i am experimenting with ehx big muff pi and ehx q-tron in one loop - it's difficult to get consistent settings, as every gain stage can sound different at different master vol's, so i'm still learning how to balance the tone. lucky for me, i can easily mix in raw signal with fx signal, but like i say, it's all experiment, as different mixes of instruments/rooms can change your sound... i like your idea of the tremelo, so would be interested to hear your experiences.. also i want a good synth pedal. the markbass one looks like the daddy, but is expensive, so i'll wait. i bought a boss syb-5 recently, and regretted it. i can only really use one mode effectively - no.10 - sounds like a digital fuzz, like your signal is breaking (but in a cool way) what are you using and what results are you getting ? edit - also need an octaver. i've looked at a few, but (no i ain't a mb salesman) i like the look of the mb octaver, as it has octvs 1 & 2 plus this switch that says 'DUB' and wipes out your original ! it sounds like the way forward..
no matter where my pedals are it still feeds back, due to the high gain signal going into the amp from the level of the pedal.
hi, i get the same problem, so i would like to hear more.. the noise-gate seems to be the way to go. for starters my bass signal is active, so i think that the 'hotter' your signal gets, the more detrimental to the big muff ! i find that compression is needed on the way in..

that is pure porn, like a nissan gt-r with strings..
Good advice there. There is a local music store that just opened here but their bass pack costs 250£ while I have access to more variety online and for lower prices too (see the websites I posted).
understood.. shops always have to cover their rent/staff and some staff can be obnoxious and off-putting, but there is also usually the benefit of tieing in with the local music community , so don't shun them for the sake of a few quid..
Thanks for the answers! I hope you don't mind me asking some follow-up questions. About the 20W amp and the 50W amp, what's the difference in the sound if there is any? In terms of budget let's say the max is 250£ and as for style, more alternative rock. Jazz is not my style. Should I avoid the jazz bass then? Are there any online stores that you recommend?
i'd avoid online purchase until you know exactly what you want. independent music shops are disappearing all too rapidly, please support them, as building a good personal relationship with someone who can help you face to face is IMO what you should be doing at the moment..
Here's a Midget/Compact stack the tidy way round. Total weight 46lbs. Alex
hi alex, i have now corrected the way to deal with the cab orientation. the previous problem i had was the t'midget in horizontal mode meant that the handle stuck upwards and unbalanced the amp head. (a given, being as these amps are so tiny) o.k. - my improv skills in action - i used the base of the polystyrene packaging that came with the amp head, cut it to size with craft knife, removed a slot for the handle,spray-painted it black, and result !. i now have a rock-steady, shock-absorbent platform for the head..(my years watching blue peter weren't wasted, particularly that episode with caron keating climbing out of the serpentine in a wet t-shirt, but hey ! i digress..) sorry about the crap photos, as outside weather/lighting prohibitive at the moment.. and yes it sounds awesome.. from chunky-funk warmth to pitbull-on-coke growl. it all sounds good.. and weighs nothing on the tin = 2 x 375 W @ 8 ohms in practice, sounds very loud & clear, not gigged yet, but have full confidence..
