Just sold the last of my electric basses......
iconic replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
A very courageous decision. -
You know come to think of it... . I used to pay extra to insure my basses up to 2k and, sent in a hardcase. Then, it was pointed out on here that, even though Parcel Force would take the insurance money, buried deep in their TnCs on page tiddly pom, sub section n bumpf 3.211 ALL musical instruments were excluded, even if you paid to insure them😀

It's been several years since I've bought and sold on here. I used to use Royal Mail/Parcel Force, any suggestions as to who to use nowadays? Speed is not an issue. UK mainland.😉 Many thanks for your help😎

First one must ensure ones rod has correct tension with a gentle twisting motion then, carefully set height of the nuts as this helps fingering at a later stage, application of graphite paste helps lubricate the nuts....

Has your taste in tone changed over the years?
iconic replied to Rayman's topic in General Discussion
Absolutely, why don't reviews do more playing in the mix, a little pointless otherwise. -

As with my tone and playing, I'm built more for comfort than speed nowadays. -
Just to say, these scams aren't just on high end goods. Got taken for the princely sum of £35 few years back. Buyer was upfront about scamming me after the event, a case of "so, what ya gonna do about it". What I couldn't get my head around was I knew his address, the stupidity of some people is mind boggling....

Setting up any guitar is much like plumbing, can be scary at first but, this soon passes. .....the mistakes come cheaper too. I set up everything from scratch. I'm often amazed that some of the guitars that come to to me, have actually been played. I guess you could also think of a proper set up as, the seat and steering adjustment in car. We are all different, yes we can drive the car with the seat n steering out of kilter but, getting it to our tastes, makes everything so much easier. Plenty of excellent set up guides on YouTube. 😎

Being a very shallow type, I've always thought of these as both curious and butt ugly. That these look ok when Maccas playing one, or in a mop haired period Beatles Benidorm tribute band scenario, anything else a tad, well you know, silly? A bit like Bootsy's Star Bass, not a look that's easy to pull off at the Nags Head, playing Country and Western on a wet Sunday afternoon. That said, what do I know, my face is a look most punters would find rather sudden too.

Harley Benton Valuestrings Bass 45-105 – Thomann UK https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_valuestrings_bassguitar_medium.htm My bad £4😎

I remember his performance on TOGWT, brilliant, pure rock star over the top goodness. I was surprised he was 74, makes me feel even older😉

I've just fitted a set of their 'Value' nickel roundwound strings to my VMJ.... just because I have them across my strats/tele and acoustics and find them perfectly fine and thought why not at that price. Well, I can confirm they have a very pleasant feel on the fingers (and thumb) good tension, settled in very quickly as regards tuning stability, nice and bright. They do not feel like cheap strings at all, quite the opposite, they remind me of EB Slinkys if I had to do a quick and dirty comparison. Obviously no idea how they will last but, the guitar ones last like any other decent string I've tried. A fiver a set, crazy value, absolutely crazy, I'm a convert. 😎

Changing a songs key from minor to major R. E.M. example

I don't know but, if everything is raised a minor third, would it matter? I feel I should be able get my head around this but, it's boiling my brain🤔 -

I'm probably overthinking this😀 -
My first bass was bought new from GAK, 2009, a black Yamaha RBX374, active, dual humbucker, lovely thing. A gentleman from Perth in Scotland bought it, I was in Essex at the time, he collected it personally 😯 Sold it when replaced by a grass wasn't greener BB614 .....back then I didn't understand that having just one bass was considered bad etiquette and rude form.....and that I didn't like active basses🙃 To be honest, looking back, that RBX374 was all the bass I ever needed and, just recently I've been on a, not too serious, search for another.....they used to be on every street corner but, there seems to be a shortage of lower cost basses being advertised, plenty of higher end curtain twitchers on offer though. ......the opposite of what I thought would happen what with the music instrument binge that many went on when C19 first hit🤔
