Playing a 4th over a root, why does this work?
iconic replied to iconic's topic in Theory and Technique
Who is playing the Eb? I would steer clear of George Russell by the way. Very advanced stuff.
well it isn't john taylor....he wasnt with duran then, i could be wrong but it could be bass-synth.....the bass does play an EB but not all the way thru....the drum lick must be one of the most popular of its time too. -
Was it a keyboard case or puka bass one?

thanks Hector, have a great Christmas -
Well i cant even get a softcase so a hard case would be useful.....lucky they are a shortish scale a 34" would be real handful! Cheers

Can you post a pic of your case...it must be huge!!!

Goldfinger by john barry....28 key changes from memory....which fails me regulary!
-
I do love a good keychange....seems to be dying trend...anything by barry gray is a key change frenzy.

I've just popped over to the 'off topic' forum for help with internet browsers and had that resolved by the great guys who attent that end of the bar in seconds, and noticed a thread of how BC has changed, whinge, moan etc but hang on.... I've had the horn for an Aria ZZB for some time and they come up for sale less frequently than a pre CBS stacked Jazz. Found a ZZB on gumtree good price, needing a bit of love but the vendor simply couldn't be pushed into posting the bass from Scotland to Norfolk no matter what. After a request on here for help, Paulpirie pm'd me with an offer for help. What a star Paul is, did all the hard work for me, chatted with the vendor, wrapped said bass to withstand a nuclear strike (& even UPS), organised a courier, has bass collected from his work, kissed her goodbye on her journey down to Norfolk...well I made that bit up, but what is certain is that he did me a big favour...all this and I'm sure he is just as busy as me what with Crimble time. many thanks Paul, take a bow kind sir. I couldn't of done this without BC's and Pauls help, give ya' selves a pat on the back and a happy christmas to ya. PS after new strings, full set-up with nut height dressed properly, good clean, gallons of lemon oil she's a winner, amazing pups...more to come!

OK, so ... are Farida basses the best pound for pound basses around?
iconic replied to bagsieblue's topic in Bass Guitars
I recently did a set-up on a Peavey 5 string cost £300 new, the quality was eye watering good...simply beautiful. never even seen a Farida but my vote goes to a Aria STB...if they are all like mine for under 120 sheets? -

This sort of follows on from the A#5 thread....the song being Duran's Come Undone, quick refresher COME UNDONE C5 A#5 G#m A#5 Mine immaculate dream made breath and skin I've been waiting for you C5 A#5 G#5 A#5 Signed with a home tattoo happy birthday to you was created for ya C5 A#5 Can't ever keep from falling apart at the seams G#5 A#5 Can't I believe you're taking my heart too pieces C5 A#5 G#5 A#5 Oh, it'll take a little time might take a little crime to come undone now Fm G# A#5 Gm We'll try to stay blind to the hope and fear outside Fm G# A#5 Gm C5 Hey child stay wilder than the wind and blow me in to cry A#5 G#5 A#5 C5 Who do you need who do you love when you come undone A#5 G#5 A#5 C5 Who do you need who do you love when you come undone during this song an Eb is sometimes played over a Bb5 (A#5!) , which to me is playing a 4th over the root, only works on the 1st Bb, not the 2nd. The song is in Cm, does this Eb work as it's the 3rd of Cm...or something? I can't get my head around how it sounds so 'right'. .....great fun doing the intro' to this....interesting (to me ) how it works....different key but you get the idea of the 5th slides 'n stuff up the dusty end of my 24 fret Yamaha RBX4-A2

Bass is an aria zzb deluxe similar to one below and strings being fender superbass nickle 45-105. Cheers guys
-
Any reason why i cant use strings for a 34" scale on a 32.5" scale bass? I would of thought that shouldnt be a problem but best to run this past the BC bretheren? Cheers

The first "modern" sounding recording by today's standards?
iconic replied to darkandrew's topic in General Discussion
The first time i remember thinking about the amazing quality and clarity of a recording was with FGTH Welcome to the pleasure dome. i always thought the early level 42 lps were very well recorded/engineered too. -
Strap length: been able to play vs looking cool

Stratospheric height never bothers mr king..i think high basses are an 80's thing, all neat 'n tidy then grunge came along and basses hung low, unkempt 'n sulky. my height is same as sitting...seems ok to me.....but the other night i was playing caro emerald with my bass sitting on its arse, like a double bass so what do i know?!? -
