1. I love a list... 1/John Taylor 2/ Mark Adams 3/ Macca 4/ Deon Estus 5/ Trevor Horn 6/ Davide Romani...Change 7/ Buddy" Hankerson 8/ Bernard 9/ Mark King 10/ Andy Rourke my sub' being Les Nemes :blink:err....an 80's thing going on there.
2. I know what you mean, but the chord is A#, sounds good.
3. Cheers for that, The guy I was chatting to (one half of a 2 guitar playing duo) always seems to play everything in C, (D or G at a pinch!) so much so it's a joke between us. Another guy I sometimes noodle with, is one of those 'one man karaoke machines' and seems to be able to have a good go at most songs in most keys....but had to drop a half step for Bruno Mars Locked Out Of Heaven...which I found strange? If only I could sing some if these things would make more sense
4. Ohh, power chords....be jesus most of that wiki bit went over my head....I don't know why but I always associate these with heavy metal....not sure why....but that isn't a chord is it, if 3 notes are a tritone that make a chord then a power chord would be more a power 'bitone'
5. Most likely a dumb question but humour me if it is ? I was chatting to a guy I sometimes jam with regarding how the key of a song is/can be dictated by the 'singing key' of the lead singer...I can't sing so never give these things much thought...until I need to transpose. ...so are backing session singers booked by the key they can sing in, do they advertise this &/or is this not important? & if so why? cheers
6. So an A#5 chord....to me that means: 1/ an A# chord with a 5th...but I'm already assuming it's got a regular 5th, it's not diminished or augmented....so why the '5' tagged on the end? ...I've 'come' across this in Duran's Come Undone.... COME UNDONE C5 A#5 G#m A#5 Mine immaculate dream made breath and skin I've been waiting for you C5 A#5 G#5 A#5 Signed with a home tattoo happy birthday to you was created for ya C5 A#5 Can't ever keep from falling apart at the seams G#5 A#5 Can't I believe you're taking my heart too pieces C5 A#5 G#5 A#5 Oh, it'll take a little time might take a little crime to come undone now Fm G# A#5 Gm We'll try to stay blind to the hope and fear outside Fm G# A#5 Gm C5 Hey child stay wilder than the wind and blow me in to cry A#5 G#5 A#5 C5 Who do you need who do you love when you come undone A#5 G#5 A#5 C5 Who do you need who do you love when you come undone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttw3WjJUkdU any help welcome
7. Depends if you use it as thumb rest or tug bar.....is it top or below strings?
8. no arguments here with westfield p bass....never seen a later one with a tort p/g though...and fender clones didnt fit mine...and i have 3 of them....one of hem has been treated to alpha pots and wiring upgrade and .1uf cap.....shouldnt if bothered dont sound any better than the other two! All of mine needed a nut massage for a real low action...pups are quite hot standard and great slap tone being quite bright....excellent necks on all if them and very stable...buy and enjoy.
9. I've a jazz affinity....did a quick set up....small bit off the nut and plays fine.....its been my bass of the week funnily enough. Its got a real soft spot in my heart as it reignited my GAS. After becoming ill and selling off my 'higher end' collection and getting down to my yamaha rbx a2 and a westfield p bass keepers i saw this jazz fir sale just up the road and thought what a cracking bass it was.....I've now got more bass's than before I got a bad pancreas! I will never own an expensive bass when affinitys etc play just as well for my limited talent. if you do a squier wiki search there us a good page describing models and dates etc.
10. Sorry its my eyes....mine has the LED...thought this did too! Lovely colour
11. I cant imagine there are too many as to my ears pretty much everything i've heard has a root 'n fifth lurking somewhere...so is it more a 'theoretical scale than a practical scale? Thinking about it caro emeralds a night like this is the only song where i've even thought about using this mode to play over/around a chord.... having a diminished chord in the bridge....but i dont get out much!
12. Interesting to see how this thread has gone...some deep stuff here. as regards the human emotional side of things strangly i cant agree with the typical happy major sad minor statement... i actually find the minor more 'happy' than a major....when i noodle along to to drum track i prefer the sound of a minor scale.....my mrs would say i'm a pessimist and bottle half empty sorta guy.....i wonder if theres a link there....she is more a half full sort of major scale person!
13. Vintage icon v bass...they do a relic one....their basses get a lot of love here?

15. I wouldnt know what pick up to use but did any of these guys use a p? May help to identify the bass they used for the sound you want I thought Rouke used a yamaha 'n fingers and foxton a rickenbacker/faker and pick?
16. Great points guys, thanks for the help
17.
Your mixing 3 and 4 note chords. 3 note: I major, II minor, III minor, IV major, V major, VI minor, VII diminished 4 note: I major 7th, minor 7th, minor 7th, IV major 7th, V (dominant) 7, VI minor 7th, VII m7b5
Thats cleared that up I have played blues with 6ths and b7s too thinking about it. The blues scale sounds great too and as the above said more bluesy 'n less good ole boy....but still like to know why playing a minor over a major works so well...if that makes sense?
18.
The V isn't major, it's a dominant 7 chord.
i thought the 5th was simply called a major....unless its because the chord includes the 7th as the 3rd of said chord...which it does....i may of answered my own question? Even so its not got a flat 3rd so still a major...isn't it?
19. Ive a jack that i love and never seems to goes out of tune. I'm interested in what causes the slipping issue?
20. ....which is basically a minor pentatonic scale with an added flat 5th is used in blues when the usual 1,4,5 tunes use major chords? When i play to a 12 bar blues tune and over the 1,4,5 i use major chord tones and drop a flat 7th to spice things up.... ....unless the use of the blues scale isnt for tunes based on 1,4,5 progression! No doubt an obvious answer to this that i dont know!
21. I see what you. did there!
22. Went thru an ELO phase recently....only then learnt that the Light part of the name refered to the size of the orchestra/ band....i grew up with dad always saying "turn that electric light off...i aint made of money"! great band and even better musicians.
23. Wow....learn sonething every day i didnt know steinberger's were still being made....didnt they get bought out by gibson or someone? Sweet looking bass....how you getting on with headless element? I had to put fret blocks on my jack or i kept getting wrong notes!
