2. "To work out whether the piece of music you're looking at is major or minor, you need to look for clues - the main clue is looking for the accidental that represents the raised 7th in the minor key associated with the key signature - for example if the key signature has two sharps (F#, C#) it will be in either D major or B minor. If there are lots of A# accidentals, its likely to be in B minor. Other clues are the chords (or notes) used to start and end the piece." ......this bit here (well above ), would it be fair to say that if the key was the relative minor, there would have a disportionate of 3rd's in the tune too....as it's the 3rd that identifies if it's minor or major key? just a thought? again many thanks for all have taken time and effort out to help me clarify things....

 4.
A Guild, from what I recall.
ohh, I'm gona have a noodle on party fears two! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZSMDaewz2A
 5.
I think it initially was all about being heard. Read almost any interview with a bass player in the 70s and the first thing they did on buying a new bass was to take off the ashtrays, thumb rest/tug bar and any other superfluous metal work, then swap the flat wound strings for Rotosound round wounds and play with a pick. Suddenly it was possible to hear what notes they were playing. By the 80s it wasn't so important. Bass amplification had improved massively and besides if you spent half your time either slapping or playing fretless using a pick wasn't really appropriate. OtOH there were still plenty of pick layers in the 80s depending on the genres you were listening to. Post punk and goth were full of them.
nice one thanks
 6. My era, this and 80's....love bass spotting on TOTP 2 but have also noted that it seems most bass (no, not all before the pedant trolls pounce.*..) players appear to use pick rather than fingers back in the 70's....still regarding myself as bass virgin what happened to make the step change to mainly seeing finger players from 80's on? was it a recording thing....every bass player was an ex guitarist...ran out of picks? * and by dominant i'm not refering to pick players only playing flat 7ths...or over dominant chords of other flavours!
 7.
I think the OP has a point. I am personally disgusted that I can't write a book without learning a language. It's just an excuse to oppress me.
Yes? I wrote a 'how to operate your FTIR gas analyzer' guide....i promise you that i didn't fully understand the engineering software langauge behind it though...so it is possible and had guys operating that mother whom couldn't cross the road and chew gum as we used to say......so there is hope.

 10.
Lovely stingray tone that! Down a few keys from the original too so the bassline sounds a fair bit beefier
If an alien popped down to Norfolk and, after he'd finished 'probing me', asked (in English!) "prey country boy, what does a Stingray bass sound like?" I'd play this, to me it is THE stingray sound, sublime....I try not to play this too often, too painful, sold mine earlier this year ...there's another live version kicking around in the same key, where Mark plays a Fender (or clone?) jazz, sounds very, very good, but the Stingray kills it. 11. I like Fender superbass rounds, but I do see a few mentions of these saying that they - Fender Superbass - seem to have a lot of finger noise....so with that in mind, I suppose certain rounds must have much less less finger noise, see I'm bright like that ..strange but true, if I play thru my Amp-Plug 'n headphones I don't get much fingernoise at all, so the EQ, set-up, rig etc must be just as important too, as above.
 12. Wham....Young Guns, Club Tropicana and not forgetting Wham Rap...that Deon Estus sure played a great bassline!
 13. Hmm yeah....the pc sounds even bettrr thru my trace 1210 combo!

 15. M.D Phillips sig' model..."although it doesn't play as fluently as I'd prefer, it took me hours of blood sweat and tears to hone this example into....."
 16. ...at the other end of the price range but I don't think that Tony Butler plays a Vintage Tony Butler P bass live, shame I'd love him to be player of a good budget bass, be good kudos.
 17. Ive just picked up a mint peavey microbass for use with my pc as an alternative to sh*te aftermarket pc speakers....cost me 30 quid....bloody hell its a loud little bugger fa only 20 watts using the pc and or a bass! Recommended! As a benchmark ive owned an orange crush...hateful thing and a fender rumble which aint too bad but this wee microbass whips all their asses.....ohh tried a roland which really was dissapointing with regard to the hype they get. ....thats all.
 18. ...a few things seems to going decimal, money, measurement and we only really have twelve notes at the moment a sort of imperial system if you want... and that is a fudge of sorts (equal temperment) I wonder what a 10 note system would sound like....I'll google that, someone must have done a video for that

Looks similar to this one below, but the fleabay one headstocks completely different & a bit fugly to my eyes ....saying that the catalogs for a 1977 model year....and a prettier looking bass.
