3. Thanks to the OP , I always wondered who did this tune.
 4. although I've not seen it, I guess this has most likely been posted as many times as our Korean 'cos-play' friend's drinking his milk, but does anyone know where this vid' came from originally?...did Bootsy do a 'how to' VHS video back in the day or something.? I never tire of watching how this guy can put soooo much funk in a D and a D octave http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHE6hZU72A4
 5.
all good tips thanks. i will never look at a well proportioned rear in the same way... ted
great analogy...I've also got a good excuse for looking now...."'cos I'm improving my musical timing"..
 6.
Ah, but they have! Honestly, it makes not one bit of difference if you treat it modally or as A major... the bassline should follow the harmonic progression and take any passing tones from the key centre. Which should have exactly the same effect.
7.
Music isn't usually modal. The key is a piece of cake to figure out. I learned it using the time honoured mnemonic: Father Charles Goes Down And Ends Battle Battle Ends And Down Goes Charles Father The first line is the order in which sharps appear on the key signature: F, C, G, D, A, E, B. The second line is the order in which flats appear on the key signature: B, E, A, D, G, C, F. To get the correct key, you just have to know that C major has no sharps or flats. Key signature with 5 flats... the flattened notes will be: Bb Eb Ab Db Gb (Battle Ends And Down Goes) The key will be: (Charles) Father Battle Ends And Down = Db major (as we already know the D is flattened) no sharps or flats? C major 1 sharp = G major 2 sharps = D major 3 sharps = A major 4 sharps = E major 5 sharps = B major 6 sharps = F# major 7 sharps = C# major 1 flat = F major 2 flats = Bb major 3 flats = Eb major 4 flats = Ab major 5 flats = Db major 6 flats = Gb major 7 flats = Cb major Major or minor you ask? Easy... look through the music... are there a lot of accidentals through the piece? Particularly towards the resolution points? Minor melodies/harmonies tend to sharpen certain notes to give more tension to cadences, so if you see a lot of sharps or naturals, you'd probably be safe to say it's minor. To work out the correct minor key, you just go down a third from the relative major Db major by the key signature, but lots of accidentals telling you it's a minor? D, C, B... Bb minor
many thanks for the that I learnt this method first of all though, the erm, err, quick 'n dirty method I call it: sharps....half step above the last sharp is the key signature flats........second to last flat is the key signature many thanks guys, you took some time out to explain that, grateful
 8.
You don't know music theory and you're blaming the theory for that? No, not what I meant, obviously it didn't come across as such, just puzzled at times...it may have the Chris Issak Wicked Game tune that got me thinking...? Just learn it! doing my best here, tis a big subject for one such as I!
9. You are correct the 'key signature' would have me believe its in A major what with those F#, C# and G#s. ....now if only they wrote.....
 10. Wow....thanks guys...excellent stuff
 11. Its more like me talking out my arse but i would like know why?
 12. Well sort of....but its more of a tease to me...why not write in C major at the start of that stave type thing....wouldnt take much ink.
 13. Please no large words.....i think its an applied system to an instrument inherently out of tune intonation wise to what are considered perfect intervals.....guessing though to be honest.
 14. As a theory and reading nooobie I cant help thinking the way music is transcribed could be so much easier by the simple addition of two things at the start of a piece....sort of this is generally the gist of whats coming next. 1. The key....yes i know there are sharps and flats at the start....but that doesnt tell me the key....could be C major or A minor for example. 2. The mode.....possibly more useful. Im assuming the reason behind writing a tune down even in greek times was for 2 reasons...so a tune could be transported around....and for a tune to reward the writer for financial gain. but i sense a bit of.....maybe snobberys the wrong word maybe a tad of closed shopness (if such a word exists) in that you need a certain level of knowledge to work out the simple fundamendals of a tune the 'key' to the whole issue if you want.....theres endless discussions of what key is this tune? .....there must be a good reason why this isnt done but why....the tunes key seems to be only included on the front sheet with writers and publishers bumpf....its obviously important so why not put it where it belongs?
 15.
I think you need to remember songs are built on musical feelings, not theoretical rules. It sounds nice, and it's probably built on a mode, B Dorian I think, the second mode of the major scale, it's a minor mode, seems to me the E is major but I could be wrong.
sorry I change that while you must of been replying, yes you ar right, cheers for the help.
 16.
E Major mate.
what the key?...wouldn't that make the B a major if harmonised as 'normal' though? ...hang on found the sheet music...it is an E major! ...is there a reason would he would have an E major and not a minor, in that is that quite a common thing to do, have a the 4th in a minor scale being major not minor? cheers guys
 17. So I'm bumbling along thinking I'm getting the hang of a little theory 'n stuff and then I find I've been playing this tune wrong, possibly? Obviously there ain't too much going on in the bassline....but I like to play the melody to it, or some would call it overplay the bassline but indulge me....and PS I love the look of the bass players Fender (?) and he simply plays a root E. I 'thought' being as it's all written in Bm it would be Bm-A-Em...then i find the 3 tabs I've found list the Em I play as an E major....see here. http://www.e-chords....aak/wicked-game Now of course The answer maybe that it's because Chris wrote what he wanted & he can have a E major any day of the week if he wants one...he's the song-smith not me, and so what, it sounds great. But, with my limited knowledge of theory, if I harmonise a Bm I get Bm, C dim, D major, E minor, F minor, G major, A major....yes? I've been trying to look at Mr Izaak's fingering on his geetar to see if he plays an E major or E minor, someone with better eyes and 6 string undestanding may wish to take a gander...to me @ 39 secs he looks like he is playing a F# with his middle finger, which erm looses me totally as it would be either a G for minor G# for major as a low played 3rd....even though I would think he would play an open E...maybe he uses a different tuning or something? any help most welcome gentlemen and ladies.
