1. From whats been mentioned thus far newish classics seem thin on the ground....unless its the age group here?!? .....if ya wanna go old skool....i often have a noodle on trip to trumpton urban hype....simple enough but great fun....hand out a few whistles etc
2. Castles in the sky.... what was that lady gaga one called? one of her first?
3. Is it shorthand for deputising? Ive been asked to play for a band whilst the usual player is off. now i only noodle around at home with the lead singer guitar player whose one of those talented mobile kareokke machines...give him a tune and he will sing and play it, excellently...he seems very confident enough with me or desperate! Anyway whats the form?....ive already found from noodling with few players that for the most part proper chords seem not to matter to some (!) so im guessing i need the played version of any set list so i get both chords and key..should i ask if a cd is available? Any help welcome.....in a state of slight tipssyness i agreed....got a while to go yet! I dont think i need worry about talent scounts or paperrattzi just yet....sex before/after gig etc
4.
What's the best egg for metal?
budgie?
5. In the interests of furthering science i was going to try this experiment only to find someones poached my bass instead....
6. Right handed....always play seated....on my right knee....this must be the 'modern' position!
7. Ahh right....give me a mo'.... still cleaning the cv....smells like a chippy!
8. Bought two jazzers today with 3 miles of each other....a mint vmj to replace the one i sold a few months back....only this one dont feel like a ships anchor (?!) and a classic vibe 60s jazz..... i tried a cv years ago and didnt like it for some reason i forget...wow what tidy basses....light, wonderful neck good pups.....strange how ones tastes over but a few years? I hear that mim pickguards fit straight on a cv...tinternet rumours or true?
9. What happened to the MM....i for one think you made a better choice sir.....jazzes....lovely things bought two today!
10. Ive 75 quid for it....posted!
11. I'd like one too, its the only one of the VM pack I have never owned, the others have ALL been very good basses indeed...love the Amber/Maple onesword of warning though, if they make the body from the same wood as the body of my old VMJ it could be as heavy as the QE2's rear anchor
12. maybe worth posting a vid of the sound you mean...one mans 'clank' is another mans Rick' tone? ...'clanky' for me is when I pluck near the neck with a low action, the strings seem to bang and clatter around on the upper fretboard, some would call this poor technique
13.
Orange Micro Terror. Look and guess what I do again and again. best, bert
now that is an odd way to turn an amp on....WTF were they thinking? ....I thought this was going to be a thread on coldplay...
14. One of the biggest draws at our local are the 'plastic paddies' as I call them, I won't name them, but they have a really large following up 'ere in Norfolk, always sell outs. I love their music (although it seems there are only a few irish licks) but hate the visuals as do my kids. ....one guys bangs on a tea chest, another tamely strums a guitar and the singer is the star of the show, playing a mean fiddle and sings too, blindingly well indeed to be fair....but every song has a backing track driven by a laptop. It was bit strange when I 1st saw them, such a big sound for a 3 piece....I'd had a few cyders too! I thought "tight bass player" but couldn't see a bass player but "where is he hiding?"... then thought where is the drummer and where are the keyboards etc. I looked round and honestly I think if the band removed their strings and sat on their tea chest the crowd wouldn't notice after 20 mins! As I said they are THE biggest draw with the punters, everyones up and dancing, and bums on seats for those who don't, pricey tickets, got to hand it them it seems to work very well for them & pays, but I can put 50p in the jukebox if I want to hear recorded music...seems a bit moody to me?
15. Good enough for depeche mode....and thompson twins if ya old enough to remember!?!
16. Now that is interesting i never knew pups were sited at node points, thanks for that.
17. wow takes me back to 2009/10....I tried ABA'd one of these and a active Yamaha BB614...the BB614 won hands down for me, the MM had a strange weak sort of pre-amp in a hard to explain way as above, was heavy as a boat anchor as above & seemed to be more, I don't know, a pricey marketing handbag rather a than good solid bass, don't get me wrong, not bad, just far too much money for an OK bass.....& I be honest & say I was soooo wanting the MM to be a great bass as I loved the look of them...this may say more about the quality of the BB614 though I still like the look though...but ditch the pup cover
18. Maybe been listerning to a bit of george formby before the gig? Is he called prince or !*?! now?
19. Good vid....the us and mexican get my vote...sound very very similar...the rice grinder doesnt sound so appealing
20. looks like he is playing chords on his A2....a major unless I'm mistaken...which no doubt I am
21. I'm going thru a harmonics phase..it will pass I'm sure. I have noticed that I have 3 bass's here at the moment on the the exact same strings and there is a real difference in the clarity and volume on the harmonics....was bored last night so had a go on them with same amp settings 'n stuff. Method:- All running newish Fender superbass nickles...intonation good on all basses...all 4 strings...all passive jazz configurations...on rear pups, tones wide open (as in straight thru, as in no treble cut) I also A/B/A'd them in case my technique was getting better..it isn't! Results:- Gold: My Yamaha RBXA2 wins hands down, by a country mile (I do live in Norfolk )...clear as a bell, very loud & easy to find...also plainly audible when unplugged. Silver: Aria Jazz...very good...clear but not as lively as the A2. Bronze: Squier Jazz...the harmonics are there of course but a tad dull and I need to be more precise. Summary:- I'm not sure what's this is telling me, could be pups, could be a resonance thing...anyone familar with a Yammy A2 will know these things sustain soooooo well and have this internal resonance thing going on in the body. The Aria is a nicely finished one piece Alder body with very hot pups....the Squier Jazz is simply red and is the 'quietest' & flatest of the trio when playing...plays nice enough though. So if I tried this on a boutique high end bass would I get even better harmonics?
22. You could ask if they would be prepared to take the bass back and for you to make them a payment in return for re-stocking a now 'used item/pre-owned/second-hand' call it what you will, bass. .....obviously this is going to cost you money but you then again, you don't have the hassle of selling the bass on the open market? just a thought.
23. Many thanks guys, useful stuff.
24. As the title says....is it simply roots 5ths? Many thanks for any tips
