1. Crikey Tom, you must have the longest feedback thread of anyone here! Sold Tom a BB-414 in the 'must have' Orange Metalflake obviously a man of fine taste! ....as usual a pleasure to deal with, hope you enjoy that BB Tom, all the best for Christmas cheers for now Richard
2. Tis a funny thing......certain bass's are better active or passive...and other way! Take the Yamaha BB-614 (active 3 EQ) and the BB-414 (passive), both are great bass's, I know I owned both, but the passive BB-414 was for me simply a better bass for being passive, pups were hotter, sound warmer, great range of tones, all seems to gel better... ........ .............even stranger was that I've heard they both have the same pups (?)....maybe the EQ was the cause on the BB-614, mine was OK when everything wound up & a to die for slap tone, otherwise a bit thin sounding and very quiet. ........but, then again a Yamaha RBX-374 is active and far better than the passive version RBX-2-3 range I tried.....and yet my Yamaha RBX4-A2 sounds so lively you could be forgiven it's an active ...not sure what all this proves though maybe it's a Yamaha thing, or it maybe because I've owned a few Yamaha's! I'm going to back to bed...
3. I err, umm, expect my wife would have no problems if I had packed a '15' incher'
4. I'm in sunny Banham....most people know of the zoo...although Gaymers cyder first started here...history as well
5. Hang on, give me a minute ...there ya go.
6. Wow, it really is a small world.... ....I sold a car to the latest music teacher of Eccles school (Rob?)...really nice guy, he has perfect pitch, which he said is a hinderance not an asset...makes him very critical of live music and bum notes cause him a headache! ....and.... I now own Ray 'Abbatoir' Pilgrims house! Sadly Ray passed away in December 2009 due to a stroke whilst on a med' cruise....but if ya gota go....
7. NOW SOLD MANY THANKS BASS CHAT!
8. This is another bass sadly going to pastues new. A recent diagnosis of an ongoing health issue, means my noodling at home days are getting numbered. OK, for the iconic ‘80's fans out there, a very clean example of everyone’s first 'proper' bass, assuming you had the extra money for the active version, a Matsumoku Factory May 1982 built Thunder 1A , original & still possessing the factory brass controls, nut & bridge gear. Bought from a gentleman whom bought her brand new. No mechanical &/or electrical issues, all the pots work as they should & the switches do what they should, truss rod cover present, truss rod functioning. I've set her up as I like a bass, meaning very low action but no fret buzz. Setting her up low was easy, these Westones really are built as well as the hype surrounding them goes, think bombproof, but lovely attention to detail. Tone...well to me most bass's same very similar, this one needn't. Interesting, varied choice of tones, plays both passive or active, single & dual coil phasing, variable sweep frequency boost, very easy & playable neck, slightly over a jazz feel, not as big as say a Precision, think a far more racy P! Sounds range from normal P bass, jazz sparkly through to my Yamaha RBX4-A4, that’s quite a range for one bass. Aesthetic condition is played but good, presentable & sound, slight rash on rear see photo, some small marks & blemishes but nothing to make one suck a tooth in disgust, she isn’t ‘as new’ or any other phase like that, she is over 30 years old now & used, but has obviously been cared for & not been trashed. Not roadworn by any means! She runs new Fender Super bass strings 45-105, new batteries too. Sorry no trades. I can post as my usual method which is to post bass in a hard case and ask for post return of the hard case sans bass, this method seems to work very well for both parties thus far. There is a very ‘active’ Westone owners forum, great bunch of guys, very helpful & knowledgeable. Location South Norfolk, Banham

10. SOLD SOLD SOLD thanks Bass Chat! This is another bass I'm going to say goodbye to, well it's all of them most likely. A recent diagnosis of an ongoing health issue, means my noodling at home days are getting numbered. This VMJF is simply super clean & as nice an example of a used Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Fretless as you would wish for, she‘s that sweet, a beautiful looking & playing bass. She hasn’t been gigged, used for home use only. A great introduction to the meeoowwhhh world of the fretless, easy, playable slim jazz neck, a well respected bass in their own right, regardless of price. No mechanical &/or electrical issues, all the pots work as they should & the pups do what they should, truss rod functioning, bridge the same. I've set her up as I like a bass, meaning very low action…easy for sliding around! Neck isn’t wornout, she’s used to running Nylon strings, I’ve just fitted these rounds as I’d rather it sold with new strings. One strange thing is a very small drilled hole in the head (see photo) she was like this when I bought her, something about being used for advert photo-shoot with a small plaque where the void is…I don’t know much more (I've more hearsay though!) but she still plays fine! Sorry no trades. I can post as my usual method which is to post bass in a hard case and ask for post return of the hard case sans bass, this method seems to work very well for both parties thus far. I can also post well packed in a box if you wish to save bit of cash for hard case return. I'm close'ish to Diss railway station which is 80 mins from London Liverpool Street & I can pick up to save taxi fare. Location South Norfolk....Banham
11. Vertical everytime.....lovely looking rig by the way!
12. Mark king, saw level 42 1st when they had only just released love games, and few times after too and then Bernard edwards
13. Buckeye.....i never thought a slice of wood could look quite so scary! Got a sort of dried roadkill sheep look about it.....fantastic!
14. Ok, yes I know the guy sounds like the 'Fast Shows' weather girls other half (Portugese, I know it's not spanish?) .....but just what is the tune at the start of this video....played over an E......I know the tune, I'm 99.999% sure I do, I'm thinking it's groove from possibly a Slave Mark Adams track, something from that era...maybe a Buddy Hankerson riff, and I know Steve Washington could handle a bass well too? put me out of my pain, it's been bugging me for days now! over an E, could even be Larry Graham...?
15.
http://basschat.co.u...pinions-please/ This thread covers alot of people's opinions
Oooh, I missed that thread..was it posted in the new classifieds section! Joke, I can't turn my smiley on!
16. Sounds like fun to me, at our local at the open mic' night the more fluff's 'n cock ups the better, the crowd like it even more & reserve the biggest applause for the loosest players all in good humour too! I don't gig, but the post regarding the 'empty pub syndrome' brings some memories back of some of the many groups I've seen. Our local is either full or few, seems no grey area. When a group turns up from all corners of the earth (well county), spends a long time hoofing in gear & rigs it up all this kit & then no one turns up, it must be quite dissapointing to put it mildy. It often does seem to turn the night into a practice evening for some bands. Maybe the root cause, here? Not an excuse, but possible
17. First off, this isn't a dig...honest guv's This is without doubt the best bass chat forum bar none, great knowledge from members, some rib tickling comments, great portal for selling & buying, exellent unseen site support & software gardening and obviously the guys that do all the hard work we never hear from, they do so, without thanks (many thanks by the way!). I should add I'm sure the new classifieds section has been done for all the right reasons & has attracted many comments good (and bad, no one likes change!)....but has it stiffled the GAS? It's been my first formal visit to post in the 'new section' as I'm selling up my fleet of bass's. It could be me, I have a feeling that the new classifieds section has sort of lost a bit of that casual charm, I used to love about the old sections? And, I'm missing the comments, be they complimentary, throwaway, funny, tongue in cheek, or just plain waspish . That's what made it all seem more the friendly and matey & spontanious. I know it's a buying and selling exchange still but...is it me....? Most likely just me? Maybe I'm gassed out now (I don't really have a choice either) , but I always liked to window shop before, maybe I getting old? PS great site still, don't ban me BC's still the best!
18. As advertised in new classifieds section the following bass's. I'm selling up due to health issues:- 2009 Fender P bass MIM Lake Placid/Maple Yamaha BB-414-OM orange metal flake 3 of the Squier Vintage modified series.... Maple Jazz, sunburst fretless jazz, TB telebass cheers for looking Ohh & a Stingray 4H 3 EQ Trans-Orange.
19. Has he tried another amp? Not too much to go bad on a vmj?
20. Pricing I think firmer than most, softer than a few. What suprises me more is that the AC/DC bassist always plays one (or two) I still can't get my head around a ray being used soley for metal? Funk n stuff yes. .....must have bass boost up full, mids n trebles, cut completely?
21. Eight days a week, all my loving, I'm looking through you, penny lane, something, I wanna hold your hand, magical mystery tour, little help from my friends, Lucy, all for some interesting bits! Ohh and day tripper!
22. I've just dug out an old hardrive from a 'defunk-t' PC from years ago, bunged it on my CD drive port and hey presto an afternoon has gone by.... it's full of jazz-funk-fusion songs including this old gem. This is all 'pre-me-trying to-play-bass' so I forgot what a cracking bass is being played over this tune, tight as a camels crack in a sandstorm....by a guy called Chuck Rainey....seems this gent' has played on oodles of the stuff I love...but I've seen any mention of him...sort of passed me by?
23. Just checked my fender anorak spotters guide, 81 to 83 p bass us std, nut end bullet adjuster.....? ......the plot thickens....
