Ahh, that's the difference, he plays a great melody over the lines....sort of an Andy Rouke thing... a tune over a tune, forgive my poor terminolgy! Taxman, great choice, (Jam-Start!)....All My Lovin'....I had a go on that, can't get that one right yet, superb walking bassline! keep it coming!

sorry to hear that, nice looking bass too, made me think I should take a number of serial numbers etc for insurance etc. was this stolen from car, house, gig...?

I've only started listening to Beatles in the last few months, very late in life considering I'm 50 next year, I, erm, err, had them down as a sort 60's teeny pop group, Love Me Do, funny suits etc...yeah I know .....well, the more I try and noodle along to the songs, the more I think that Sir Paul is becoming my new bass god, possibly topping Mr Edwards, Mr Adams and Mr Taylor (I'll still have them as godettes' )....these Beatles basslines are the most creative lines I've heard over chords so far, and is teaching me so much...some of his notes 'n runs simply shouldn't work as excellently as they do, to my feeble knowledge of theory anyways? ...been twangling allong to some of the busier songs, Penny Lane, Lucy, Paperback, I'm looking Through You and this morning Magical Mystery Tour (the title track?) a good example, which seems to be just E,G,A 'n a tad of a chromatic run...ohh, no, there soooooo much more going on....so many of those later songs have the bass driving the songs. I know his name crops up from time to time, but from where I'm reading he seems to often dumped in the 'solid, dependable, reliable bass player' mould, a polite way of saying roots, octaves n 5ths, dull & boring, unless I'm reading the wrong stuff ...Ok the early stuff maybe 'solid' but the later stuff.... So from a noobie Beatles fan to the hardcore Beatle 'bass', what else should I be listening too? many thanks

You will need 3 hands for this but what happens if you play the dead note and then grip the headstock, if it helps hang an electronic tuner off the end...... Just an idea! Shift race jersey, mx or enduro?

Psst!!! I've got some magic beans for far less than $23k, if anyones interested, they are sitting on a pile of rockinghorse c*!p and if you look closely you may find some hens teeth in there too! ....I mean, surely without any evidence it's simply 'here say'....tis a fugly looking thing and very badly finished whats left of it. Looks like it been used for hammering in fence posts at some time. If the 'story' has any creadence this means previous owners knew the provenance of this bass, a Fender's never been cheap to buy, I would of thought it may of been better cared for being a one off....?

I have the same strings fitted across all my basses and they all seem to have different tension, all 4 string, all 34" scale (all bar a gnats cock), all on Fender Superbass rounds. The slackest is my Squier VMJ, tightest is my Yamaha BB414, the rest fall somewhere inbetween....but I can't see why, wouldn't they all have the strings in the similar tension, the same string needs to be in the same tension to create the same note...doesn't it? .....confused I am? Obviously a very good and no doubt simple reason....? I do prefer a slack string.

I can hum uberberlin by REM but not Orange crush! I had an Orange crush, 2 of them from new.....1st one died after a week, 2nd would play for a 30 mins then hum and work intermittently....would work again after cooling down. I changed the speaker for celestion, still crapped out....my thinking was that mains transformers are marginal at best, this would be the 1st place I'd check. I forgot how much I hated those 'amps'....looked great though!
Ruck bought some pickups direct from Yamaha, he emailed them through the website. Got to be worth a try, although I cant imagine why you would want to cover that lovely orange paint with a piece of plastic
Spoke to yamaha UK, really helpful scots ady on service/spares. BB424x chrome control panel ex-stock, pickguard on 4 week delivery....parts inc vat n pnp, 39 quid......, not bad I paid 40 for a pattern pickguard for my fender! Bugger forgot to ask about screws!

Don't knock it! People pay big money for a big of mojo! My Westone Thunderpants was like this, bit of metal polish, job's a good 'un.....I did take the precaution of taping between the frets first with masking taple, very tedius...

Anyone know where I can 'pickup' a pickguard for my broadbass 414....I tried thru a yamaha dealer as to buying a pickguard for a 424x but they couldn't get any joy from the yamaha importers. Cheers Ps my bb414 in metallic Orange is still with me and has seen many bass's come go, cracking tools!
If you go for BRG then paint the headstock yellow like a Lotus 7.
Plus one, call it the prisoner!

Modified as in vintage modified series? if so, in the vm series the only white bass is the vmp, vintage modified precision. If you mean if its a regular Squier that's been modified, who knows, great tone and player though, the funks in the fingers!

This is most likely a real rookie question, but having little interest in guitars and I can't sing (no really I'm almost tone deaf!) why do guitar players change the key of a song....I've come across some key changes that can make the bass accompanyment 'challanging' for someone such as myself with meager talents......ashes to ashes from Bb to G was the time I really found it tough! So is it because guitarists can't play any key other than C major/A minor due to laziness, or is down to singers with limited voice range......which prompts me ask what do singers have, 1 octave, 2? Like I said, maybe obvious to a muso but humour me!
