Yamaha BB414's a no brainer too, there's always a few for sale on here, rarely a bad word do you hear, very versatile, easy to play...they must be I have one!

not the best pics and this didn't sell last month...interesting old bus though if this floats ya boat, and dare I say, possibly originally a better built bass than some Fender's of the same era....from what my vintage Fender playing mate tells me ...the only fly could be that I couldn't break out the serial number, but from this guys feedback he should know his basses? Been a few posts on these Tele basses but has anyone seen one in the flesh yet, even, better had a noodle on one, and for a bonus point bought one? My Squier Tele is my favorite bass so far and having a rear pup would seem to be my ideal bass....'for the foreseeable future' cheers guys

Great thread I'm learning a lot here as a non muso, I must use most of the above ! ....but just found this description in an advert for a Rotosound Tapeworm strangely attractive...the 'speaking length', be good the for the pub, "would you like to know the the speaking length of my.... " When fitting Rotosound Bass Strings, be sure that the silked part of the string ONLY is wound around the machine post. If the speaking length of the string is wound around the post, the string may then be prone to breakage. This type of breakage is not covered by our normal warranty.
Tapeworms?
sorry Tapewounds....I always call them Tapeworms! Rotosound True Bass Black Nylons. Squier vintage modified jazz, tapeworms and rear pup only will get you someway to a early Japan fretless sound, like visions, gentlemen etc, the vmj has cheater lines too, but for the of being obvious fret the notes on the lines, not between as a fretted bass...took me few hours to work that out thinking my intonation was out!

...Ohh, thought this was goona be a male errection self help thread I'll get my coat!

bash my balls with an iron bar that was quick....Ovation Magnum, rings a very faint bell.... I quite like the look of this and the sound is wonderful if this is typical....do they come up for sale....pricey or cheap?

I used to really like something their stuff, can't speak Welsh but hey good grooves and basslines though...I even bought Nid Hywadd ....this is some strange looking bass, sounds great to me though! ....looks very active with two very large pups...with Jaguar looking body, but Aria head....it must be pre-'89 though. close up at 1:14 onwards.....sounds like a fretless...with cheater lines
BRilliant - Wilson or Fender! Wait - what's Morrissey's bass player playing? Maple Wal? Shergold? What is it? BBC3 (or 4) just now!
Small world, just saw one on totp 76 this week bassist for flintlock! O

I reckon the treble n bass on my amp makes the most difference.... I always find this tone thing amazing, between bass's yes, between the same bass but different fretboard well I can't see it, but I'm not the brightest on this forum? ....I mean, when I think about it the string doesn't really touch the maple as such, well OK if ya gonna be an anorak yes at the fretted point, but it's length and hence tone is either twixt the plastic/bone nut and metal bridge of open, or metal fret and metal bridge....and the metal based strings simply act on the magnets in the electronic pick up's so I can't see how the wood 'would' effect the tone or am I missing something....most likely!

I always thought the tone-wood thing was a bit flaky, now I know!
OK, I ain't got any funny quips or hubcap humour...but was just youtube'ing (is that a word?) this band and I really want to hear them live now. I see a few UK dates, just wish something smack in the middle of London.
one of THE best groups I have seen, I'm 47 now and that's a lot of groups, don't really love anything blues/country/folk/blue grass so a real shock for me too...well worth travelling an hour to see them live, even our 11 year old and moody teenager were impressed, they are a laugh too so entertaining as well. I'm gutted I didn't get a CD whilst I was there now. -
Like you say interesting point Mr O/G... I think James Jamerson used to "wander" around a lot but he didn't "noodle" around KWIM?, bass lines...inspiring many generations of players. btw Level 42 "hot water" on youtube circa '86(?) on "The Tube"........ooopps!! that e is "d" tuned Mr K!!! mind you he gets out of it with good grace, so it may count for this thread
nice one!

I gota agree with a previous post, not all mistakes are bad though, sorta make the tune.... ....I love the sound of 'someone' sliding there pinkies up 'n down a fretboard on this one by Matt.....more noticeable from 0:20 intro in?
-
something very odd about the bass on this Sly and the Family Stone cracker....always makes me think my speakers falling out, or a loose wire?
-
Which amp? Ashdown EB 180 or Five-Fifteen minirig?
